PSA: This game used to have a scene where you could eat a baby. They removed it.
Yup, you need a very specific version of the game to get that bit. was kinda hoping they'd get to that so they could eat the baby.
They removed it in some releases, the ROM of it still exists on the internet.
Is that on the Benny plot or can you eat the kids in nimdok's story

For anyone going through this game, there are multiple ways of handling each scenario. In Nimdok's scenario, you can avoid performing the surgery by using the scalpel on someone else.
It's still funny to me that they picked the 2 _HEAVIEST_ characters first. My favorite order when playing this game is Benny -> Gorrister -> Nimdok -> Ted -> Ellen. Save the best 3 for beginning, middle, and last.
Ellen was my favorite one out of all of them. Her dialogue was the best✨
So I admit when they started playing this game I didn't expect a 5 min old man/golem make scene but whatever.
"Man, you know what's kinda crazy? Like, 1995, this was, like, intense shit for computer games to be doing in 1995. Like, this was, like, REAAL shit."

You are too kind! I've already watched the Best Friends play this, so I know what happens, but seeing other people play it for the first time and their takes is so addicting.
So I am at 37:55 and i think i just realized something. The three beasts may be the three parts of Am, and the lost tribe on the moon is remnants of humanity hiding away on the moon, in cryo or soemthing, and AM does not know they are there. Gonna keep watching and see. It's cool how many hidden meanings things have with so much other stuff. All kinds of conspiracy fuel lol.
That's instantly what I thought. Also, "They speak in numbers" I thought was suggesting Binary. Cause, you know, robots.
All the voice acting aside, the short story and game are quite interesting and entertaining (depending on your definition of entertainment) For my story that I’m submitting to the Writers of the future contest, I took some inspiration from lots of places, HP Lovecraft, A Pale of Air (another great science fiction short story), an idea of a nuclear warning system to last 10,000 years and yes, I have no mouth, and I must scream

I love this game! It has taboo topics, that i think society still has trouble talking about.
I'm a bit disappointed that they continue using a guide from Benny through to the end, it makes them not bother exploring and finding a lot of the little details in the game. Too invested in getting the "perfect" ending and not enough in just playing the game. Still a fun watch of course, I just wish they'd gone through most of it on their own and only consulted a guide if they got stuck.
100% agree with this. It's still interesting to watch, I guess, but I enjoyed it more when they were puzzling things out and not just playing the game as written by a guide. :(
For me it was fine that they used the guide to prolong the doctor's act, but I completely lost interest when they used the guide from the start of the following act. Such a shame.
But we know that they'll take forever to finish a puzzle without one... I doubt it'll be fun to watch them struggle and complain every second about the puzzle logic either.
Well yeah, that's why I said I actually don't mind them doing it if they get stuck. This game's puzzles are especially weird sometimes, I'm fine with them giving it a good go and then checking if they feel like they're running in place. They did that with Ellen and like half of Nimdok.
I didn't even mind the idea behind them *just* going full walkthrough for one of the five, just to see how it works, but I watched the stream archive and they do it for the rest of the game. Doesn't ruin the videos or anything, it's just a bit disappointing. I would have liked to see Jesse get surprised and be able to work things out. I'm glad Octo wasn't really reading it so we still got to see his unspoiled reactions.
Trinity of three beasts. : ) That will make sense later if you think about it.

The short story and this game is one of the closest depictions of Hell I've come across.
I mean the nice thing about this game is that it actually gets so much worse than you ever expect XD
Ah, while the guide is doing it's job taking you to the answer, it's omitting a lot of exploration and dialogue. Honestly, some of the scenes you walked into made it seem like you sequence broke Benny's story (particularly with the tomb stone soldiers.)
I have mixed reactions on this. The reason we usually (or at least I) watch Jesse is to explore stuff and get both more immersed in the world and get more lore/story info, but this is following a guide (seems like next one will be also) completely to finish it, instead of curiously checking out everything they can.

So regarding the Nimdok quest:
I had no idea that you could succeed without the eyes, since the solution I used was to awaken the golem and have the lost tribe kill you with it. Instead walking through the wall counts as a win?
You get worse endings, so to fully "win" yes you do need to do everything with the eyes and golem properly. Each character needs to get a "100%" in their run to get the best ending. You can tell how well you're doing by your character's portrait in the bottom right. They smile and their portrait turns a lighter color the more stuff you do "right." If you do everything right, your portrait should turn white right around the last step/action you need to do.
I just wish they would play through and get the good ending after. That said, considering their reactions, I don't think they will touch the game again.
Out of curiosity do people enjoy what this seamed to turn into after the 1h mark?

You know, this is very similar to the Ellen scenario, because when she was wearing the blindfold, she was also not seeing her way through the game.

Octo has a really weak stomach. Even the big silly AM-laser was too much for him...
There is literally no reason to use a scalpel to derive spinal fluid from a body...like tons of people get lumbar puncture for diagnostic tests and keep their mobility. This game is really good but that was so unnecessary.
Yes. Unnecessary, but so were the majority of german medical eperiments. If you've done any reading on the experiments carried out in auchwitz-birkenau, you'd know that the majority of those experiments, especially those carried out by Mengele, held almost no medical value whatsoever.

Both of them have played the game before but remember almost absolutely nothing about it? It's so odd.
No, I think it's that they've both read the short story and know about the game since it's kind of a legend. It was the first time that I know of) that a game pushed the envelope on what kind of content is and isn't permissable since literature has so little boundaries regarding permissbale content.

He's not "offended", he's responding to grotesque events in the standard human way. Gauging out a person's eyes and ramming wires into the optic nerve is harrowing.
Perhaps it was not the appropriate word, but his reactions are those of a very sensitive person, or so it seems to me.
Of course it's not good to be desensitized to those things either.
I remember back in the day when this game came out, ages ago, my reaction was a pretty strong but I was already aware of the atrocities of man in various instances (mostly documentaries), so I took it in stride to see where they were going with it.
Anyway, I like it when media doesn't shy away from more.. hard to digest things in order to present certain stories.

Back then you could make games like this. Now they'd have killed it at the storyboard stage, which is sad. And no, that's not progress.

Messed up games are still being made now-a-days, they just don’t have the point and click style anymore because it’s a rather dying style and so it doesn’t allow for the horror to sink in. A game like this could be made easily. The aim of this game was to unsettle, not “look how much we push the boundaries! We’re so cool” which is what a modern take on this game would do
Right now i really think nazis are played out bad guys. i'm tired of useing them as bad guys. there just...used up. whenever i see a movie or game use them im just like "lazy writing much" because i know any story with them has already been told. (NOTE Iron sky is exempt from this as it is so stupidley silly.
Outlast 2 actually played around with a lot of very simialr concepts including psychological torture, a version of morphogenic fields, and seriously heavy themes regarding sexual abuse, suicide, and depression. The Cat Lady is a point and click adventure which has similar themes as well, dealing with depression, suicide, depraved violence and paranoia. To say that games like this aren't being made is a bit of an oversight. Psychological horror has always been a popular genre for horror games and few topics are considered taboo when it comes to the genre.
