  • Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)
Maurice Ravel was born in southwestern France, Maurice learned to play the piano when he was still a child.
As he grew older, he became fascinated with the instruments of the orchestra.
He wanted to know how each instrument worked-how it sounded, how high and low it could play.
Ravel was also interested in composing, and before he was 20 years old, he began writing music of his own.
Mother Goose Suite was first written for piano.
Later on, when Ravel rewrote the piece for orchestra, he was careful to choose the
instrument that would best suit each character in his musical story.
