ZIROLI 1/4.4 SPITFIRE MK1A RC - MAIDEN / DEADSTICK LANDING - EME 60cc PETROL - DEANO AT NLMFC - 2024

- PILOT / OWNER - DEAN "DEANO" COXON,
THIS BEAUTIFUL LOOKING SPITFIRE WAS SCRATCH BUILT FROM A ZIROLI PLAN HERE IN THE UK BY PROLIFIC ZIROLI MODELS BUILDER NIGEL I ANSON, (HE TURNS OUT THREE ZIROLIS A YEAR !)
NIGEL ALSO GLASS CLOTHED HER, DETAILED HER WITH THOUSANDS OF RIVETS AND PANEL LINES AND THEN PAINTED HER AND FINALLY LIGHTLY WEATHERED HER,
SHE IS A MK 1A SPIT FROM THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN,
SHES POWERED BY A SINGLE CYLINDER EME 60cc PETROL ENGINE,
WE THINK THE MOTOR LOST POWER AND CUT BECAUSE WE USED THE WRONG MIX / RATIO IN THE OIL WHILST RUNNING IT IN,
DEANOS QUICK THINKING MANAGED TO POP THE GEAR UP QUICKLY AND THEN HELD OFF RAISING THE FLAPS TILL THE LAST SECOND THUS SLOWING HER UP ENOUGH TO JUST PLOP DOWN ON THE SOFT WET PLOUGHED FIELD,
NOT TOO MUCH DAMAGE DONE THANK GOD - JUST COSMETIC AND SHE WILL FLY AGAIN SOON PEEPS !

Best dead stick you could have gotten under those circumstances. Great flying!!!
many thanks
Wow, Deano, that was close, well done on bringing her back alive , and what fantastic flying and a beautiful model spitfire, well done again
Cheers
PT
Thanks 👍
So nice to see a scratch-built model these days instead of the swarms of Chinese artf ones that are so common now. Also nice to see a warbird flown in a near-scale like manner instead of like a pylon racer like a lot of modellers do.Hats off to Nigel for this stunning model.
many thanks pete,
TOOK the words right OUT OF MY MOUTH. TO SEE A REAL SCRATCH BUILT AIRCRAFT.
A TRUE MODELER 👍 WELL DONE .
NOT INTERNET TOYS.
FANTASTIC. 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Phew, thank goodness it was only minor damage. Beautiful build.
thanks dave
The movie.... Battle of Britain.FANTASTIC 🎉🎉. Love you guys ❤🎉🎉
What reflexes Deano with the gears up within a heartbeat of the engine out and then to retract the flaps an instant before touchdown. Looks like your RC stick time for most of your life has saved the day. Thank you for sharing Pete. Jim
lol - cheers jim, yes i think i would still be looking for the retract switch as it ploughed in 🤣🤣🤣
That was a good save Deano. Flies like a Spit should. I hope there wasn’t too much damage and we can see her in the air again soon. Once again, superb video footage. Many thanks. 👍🏻
thanks steve, superficial damage - flying again soon
LOOKS GOOD SOUNDS GOOD . DONT NEED TO SAY ANOTHER WORD. THANK YOU MR MICHELLE.
Chocks Away!
Super great pilot with super nice flying skills 🤩🤩👍🏻👍🏻
Engine quit and he raised the landing gear immediately, knowing he might not reach the runway. That’s the perfect way to handle such situations. Outcome = almost no damage.
Congrats to him 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
many thanks
Thanks jet lag, your clearly someone who understands how much damage can happen if the undercarriage is left down in a ploughed field
There’s plenty of trolls on this that think they know everything 🤦🏻♂️
What a beautifully built and finished model. Great flying as usual
Thank you! Cheers!
Total respect fella! My scratch build stuff flies pretty well but it doesn't anywhere near as good as yours. So glad that there wasn't much damage 😀
No problem 👍
no one hurt a successful landing.... gorgeous sound
thanks james
Great looking Bird, Great controlled landing on a dead stick. Looks all fixable 👍🏻
cheers dad
Ohh and such a fantastic looking model, great flying skills !
Thank you! Cheers!
I just love and respect you RC guys..! You can build any aeroplane to a more precise configuration than us full scale guys. That Spit looks absolutely perfect. I really do think it's harder to build small scale than full scale, and I know because I built my RV4 from jigs and parts. And, its way easier to pilot a full scale when you're sitting in it...! Trying to land an RC from multiple different aspects is difficult. Again I know because I crashed one...! Cheers...!
Thanks Dave
You are right with regards to RC models are harder to fly than full size
I have flow full size a couple of times and like you say your in them so your orientation isn’t a problem but with landing this spitfire down a hill it’s very hard to judge your height of the ground
Some of the key board warriors on here make me laugh with there comments
Cheers dean
Great detail on that model and good recovery. 👍🇬🇧
Thanks russell 👍
Awesome!
Thanks!
Great looking model. Nice one Deano on the sharp decision making. Glad there wasn't much damage :) Hope you get the engine sorted.
cheers sam
Beautiful. At first I thought soil was aircraft damage. Hope she recovers well
amazing piloting! instinctive decision to put the wheels up and then best judgment to try and work out where to flair, really difficult with the terrain in the background ! class act Deano ! I might even let you fly my foamie :-)
LOL - thanks rachael
That's a lovely build. If memory serves the real thing also had problems with the engine cutting out if it was flown the wrong way!
yes quentin, the spits merlin engine could not run if put into any kind of negative G manouvre as this starved the petrol from thr carburetor and cut the motor
Fantastic build. Doing a model like this one realy goes into the details, the story about these marvels and get to know them. It is a journey. Great work .
Thank you very much!
Fantastic flying - and nice video too - great to see so little repair work required - I guess testament to a solid build - nice one👍
Glad you enjoyed it thanks
Amazing. Even sounds and flies like a Spitfire. As a pilot friend of mine say...any landing is a good one (compared to a crash you don't walk away from) 🙂
Sweet ride - I love spitfires - flys real nice too, well done
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely amazing work on the build! Up in the air she looked like the real thing. You should fit a GoPro inside cockpit.
That's one heck of an aircaft. I'd love one but not being able to pilot one I'd crash it and destroy it for sure. Great plane !!
BEAUTY!
Lovely model Spitfire and well saved with that emergency landing
thanks chris
Pete what an absolute beauty makes you proud to be British Your lad is the best of the best look how fast he got the situation under control fantastic big thumbs up the camera man not to bad either 😂😂😂
hi fred, cheers m8, yes the boys fast thinking - because hes still young and been flying 20 yrs now since aged 8, i would still be looking for the retract switch as it ploughed head long into the ground if i was flying it - lol
Thanks for your comment Fred
I would say my years of 3d flying come in very handy at times
I don’t think many can see on the video but on the last stages of the belly landing you’ll see me kick on lots of rudder to help stop the “flick” something as simple as that can help save a model in that situation
She’s with the original builder having some tlc and will be back out flying again
Dean
Beautiful aircraft. It was painful to see it crash after such a wonderful display. Your flying skills minimised the damage. 👍👍👍
thanks chuggles
Lovely to watch that, so stable in flight, looked like the real thing! Glad to see it survived the nudge, great landing considering.
thanks muddy
Absolutely beautiful and my favourite Mark and colour. I’ve always dreamed doing a third scale and putting one of those six cylinder Kholms in . Something I’d do in retirement.
thanks sion - Go for it !
That is a fantastic built RC Spitfire. I wish I could do that. Never made it into RC models costly and the intricate work and no idea about the motor and electrical. I have plenty of the common model kits. Great one.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
Thank you very much!
Magnificent!!!
That thing is a beast, and his pilot skills are off the chart. Wow!
many thanks
@@tbobborap1 I'm not kidding. Your flying is nearly transcendental. It's as if you the pilot are flying from the cockpit. And now I see why the real Spitfire was a beast too. And a beauty as well. I think that aircraft represents a kind of pinnacle in aviation. Again, well done.
thanks again 👍
Most excellent piloting on the last 5 seconds of dead-stick flight!
many thanks mick
Have you named the little Flight Lieutenant that flies that aeroplane? Wow! Not only a great looking machine, but it looks as if it flies well too. Nice work.
thanks
Beautiful
I've been flying since 1972 and if you want more reliable engine op at idle, install a 1.5 volt AAA battery on the idle side of the servo so when you go to idle, the glow plug has help staying lit. This has saved so many planes I can't imagine why everyone doesn't do it. Oh well. Just a thought.
sorry flap but i guess you dont fly petrol engined models ? they have a separate ignition unit with a battery that controls the plug spark throughout the throttle range (this engine is 60cc - a bit bigger than your average glow motor - which i have been flying for 40 yrs now) thanks for the advice but its not applicable here im afraid - ohh well,
There’s no glow plug in it
Genius boy
Well i do fly glow your comment have made me think about it now
thanks colonel
Lovely model.
Many thanks!
You need a different silencer on it to get a deeper note, just a little too buzzy. Looks awesome though! 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Superbe machine!!!
Félicitations !!!!
many thanks pascal
@@tbobborap1 La fin est un peu triste, mais superbe travail, superbe vol, bravo à vous !
many thanks wilhelm

😊😊😊 Gorgeous plane ❤❤. Sorry it took a dip...😮😮😮
Thanks 👍
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful traditional build. Excellent scale like roll rate and flight……. a few dings will soon be sorted.
Many thanks!
Beautiful hope the damage is not severe
thanks - ready to fly again

Very nice Spitfire and great detail on the build…at least minimal damage on the landing but great flying overall!
Thanks a lot!
Very nice aircraft
thanks
shes a beauty , great save by the way

Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!

Spettacolooooooo!!!!
Nice video glad it wasn’t to badly damaged.
Yeah thanks
Love it !!. Amazing build Mate !👍👍
Thanks 👍
That’s awesome

Gorgeous Spit, careful not to lose sight of her over the wood line. Ask me how I know 😢
thanks bernard
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful Spitfire ,glad it is not badly damaged ,nice landing, look forward to seeing it fly again
thanks john - You and me both !
I recently did an Ancestry DNA test and discovered my unknown grandfather flew these birds in WWII. Now looking for his log book, FL Lt R W Greenaway of the 91 Squadron.
wow thats amazing tim,
Did you build that from scratch my god it’s nice rc spitfire and the details are fantastic and whole model it self is amazing

@@tbobborap1 thx👍
Quite convincing. With the sound muted.
Very nice..
Thanks a lot
Wow!
thanks
Nice one dean
Thanks 👍
👍
Did the best job anyone could have hoped-for landing..But take-off flap on a mark 1 Spitfire..?
cheers, yes we know the real one didnt use take off flaps but this is a F"*"*^G expensive toy aeroplane on its test flight so we used take off flaps to give us every advantage we can use for success so dont worry too much about scale details 🤣🤣🤣
@@tbobborap1 Fair enough. Lovely model. Watch out for the hun in the sun... Hello from NZ.
for the old brits out there...
Back in the day when short films were shown at the cinema before the main film, there was one about a few kids flying spitfires which had darts under the wings to be fired at the bad guys - anyone remember what it was called?

@@tbobborap1 Thats the one. Great little film.
That was a hard lick.
I wonder why warbirds have so many problems. I’ve been flying 3D models for two decades and I’ve had I think two dead sticks, one was from forgetting to kick the timer and running out of fuel.
I’ve never had wheels fall off, I’ve never broken a prop on landing, never flipped one over. And I don’t say that to toot my own horn, I just have never had problems like it seems most warbirds have. I’ve had many warbirds as well and they may flip up on their nose if the grass isn’t cut but that’s about it.
foam warbirds ? or small glow warbirds ?
Doesnt the sound of a spitfires Rolls Royce engine seem like music to ones ears?
it did look superb in flight both how it was flown and how it looked ,glad to know its ok .. i dont know what a deadstick landing is , i presumue a failure of some kind
cheers dave, dead stick means that when the engine cuts out and stops the throttle control stick on the transmitter is of no use anymore in other words the STICK IS NOW DEAD (until the engine is running again) thus we sometimes shout out dead stick (when the engine stops) so that other people flying or walking nearby will know instantly that your engine is dead and they will stay out of your was as you try to land,
Wheels down my instructor shouted !. This pilot had another problem , he is so good on the stick ?. Another shit my pants moment. Thanks all. Dave
If these planes were made just that bit bigger, the chaps could pilot themselves, but as it is the U.K, there would be "NoNo", regulations.!
A little natural weathering.
Nice emergency landing. I see the pilot is flying in his cap. Was this indeed done?
Luckily he pulled up the landing gears.
deffo
A lawnmower on a low cut would make a nice runway for take offs. Any others slow the playback speed to make it look more to original scale?
All it needs a is a mini supercharger 😉
Big, beautiful model. I like the Spitfires, great fighter. You are a good craftsman and pilot. The gas engines sound like planes. Electrics are nice too but don't sound like planes. Is the 60 cc motor the same size as the .60 ? I have a Fox .60. Thanks.
Thank you very much harry, is your fox 60 a glow motor ? if so then its only 10cc im afraid !
That will buff out
lol
What did you do run it out of fuel?
read the video description
@@tbobborap1Ah motor failure. Man nice save and good thinking to bring up the gear. Looks like it stalled and settled in right there at the last minute slow as possible.
What a beautiful plane man. Glad it pulled through with no major damage.
thanks heli, back in the air soon
Wow ,nice model and superb flying. Nice filming as well.hope it is fixable.
You and me both!
Why only 2 propeller blades
The reason most modelers only use two bladed props on their scale models is because most models only have a single cylinder two stroke engine in it and these engines simply do not produce any where Near enough power to turn a scale 3 or 4 bladed prop fast enough to get the model off the ground.
That is why they are turning 2 blade props to suit the power output of the single cylinder engine, Don’t forget the real aircraft had V12 or 18 cylinder radial aero engines in them and the power to weight ratio is a lot different on a model aero engine - the bigger 250cc & 450cc (5 and 7 cylinders) radial engines can turn bigger 3 or 4 bladed props on them but they still might not be full scale props, and these big 3 or 4 blade props cost into the hundreds of pounds and if the model noses over the props are destroyed,
imagine doing that 2 or 3 times over a weekend ! most people simply cannot afford such luxuries and resort to cheaper smaller models with cheaper smaller engines and props, Hope this info helps !
Yes that helps, I understand now thank you
Tis but a scratch ,fixable
?????? run out of go juice??

Get a girlfriend mate🙄🤣🤣🤣
I have a beautiful girlfriend thanks.
And what up with the picture of the corner of your face ? Meant to be cool or something ?
Jog on 😂
@@dean3824 haha of course you do mate, you must knock her sideways with your little remote controlled toys, they must really turn her on🤣🤣. Anyway, no offence but when you do actually get a real girlfriend I’d ditch the toys if I were you, just a little tip. You’re welcome😘
@@dean3824 haha of course you do mate, of course you do🤣. Listen, when you do get yourself an actual girlfriend take my advice and ditch the remote controlled toys, it’s not a good look. Take care😘
@@NH-bz9jv unfortunately you are a delusional and a keyboard warrior
Why are you even watching model planes for a start ? If it isn’t your “thing”
You do you and I’ll do me, make sure you go to school on time little boy
And ask your teacher what delusional means I’m sure you don’t know 🤦🏻♂️
Nice to see it fly, I hope there wasn’t too much damage!?
Not much
So why, in one instance the wheels are down & the prop is dead, then you pull the wheels up & land on it's belly. Bit stupid I would have thought. Going to fly like the real thing, land like the real thing!
Gotta be the most stupid thing I’ve read in a long time
Clearly someone talking about something that have no experience in
Idiot 😂
He couldn't do that, he didn't have any power.... to control the airplane as it slowed down... that's why they referenced the "DEAD STICK" in the Post Title...
