      @Blue Television Games @Wendro It has to be made from scratch since it has game mechanics that weren’t in Donkey Kong Country, but the person who created it probably used similar techniques for the graphics as Rare did on Donkey Kong Country and pre-rendered the 3D graphics as 2D sprites.
      This is an impressive piece of work on a technical level as well as artistically. This is the kind of person (or team) Nintendo should hunt down and hire, instead of slapping them with a cease and desist order or a lawsuit. This is the kind of work they should be encouraging instead of trying to squash it like a bug. They’re breathing new life into old hardware (I’d love to see a physical release from Limited Run Games, and the author[s] get compensated for their amazing work), and it is no half-measure.

    That Mario silhouette wipe at 1:09 is very impressive. Those wipes have to be done on a per-line basis, and each line can only have one segment in the middle which is transparent, which means your shape cannot have any vertical convex shapes in its design. Which is why it's traditionally a square or a circle, or the keyhole shape in Super Mario World.

    • @MarioFanGamer659
      @MarioFanGamer659 5 лет назад +2

      The SNES actually has two windowing masks so you can have two segments onscreen (see Mario's cap from the silhouette). Of course, more complex shapes still can't be created with just two windows.

      They did make a game like this, Donkey Kong Country. Same basic concept using pre-rendered 3D models as sprites and also had simultaneous multiplayer, although just 2P (probably not a lot of people owned the adapter needed to play 4P and it wasn't worth the added resource cost). In my opinion DKC looks better, especially when compared to the original assets created for this game as opposed to the ones that were captured from NSMB.
      I'd also say DKC had much better music, a lot of the remixes in this sound like they only use two channels. Maybe all the voice effects took away space for instruments, I don't know.
      Not knocking this game at all, it's well done especially for a homebrew game, but I don't really get why it's being called revolutionary.

    • @julianofs6041
      @julianofs6041 5 лет назад +2

      @@espfusion I wouldn't call any old DK titles before Wii DKC Returns a simuneously multiplayer, because it's not two players playing at the same time, but one awaiting the other to get hurt to assume control, besides it still have some teamwork mechanics, (and it means that it's really a cooperative game) it's not a real simultaneously coop game, like Contra or metal slug.
      Cooperative and simultaneously game isn't always the same thing. DKC is like SMW but SMW is based in a coop mechanic that let the players choose the levels they want to play, and old DKC games forces both players to coop in the same level, but in neither games both players are playing at the same time, someone is always awaiting the other's turn to end.
      Simultaneosly is both players sharing the same turn, they don't need await to play.
      I think this is revolutionary for hacking standards, isn't always we can see a work done like that, with such quality and fidelity (the game still needs be polished and receive a few bug fixes I know). And 4 players simultaneously cooperative game is such a new thing, I can't remember any official game for snes like that, the most 4p games that use the adapter is about versus and it means competitive, and I have no interest at all in such games. And as far as I know, is the very first time a fan (or team of) make a SNES game applying the pseudo-3D graphics in a game not based on a Donkey Kong Country romhacking.

    Expert Mode? It's akin to SMB where you have harder enemies and more of them. I presume this homebrew was made similarly to that, to keep in tandem with the Expert Mode of Mario Land.
    I actually wonder if the World Select Reward is also in this homebrew (in Mario Land it is unlocked after the second or third playthrough), not that it would be that much fun, lolz (at least I would rather start from the beginning) Yeah, you should try out Expert Mode. I think I'll be having a go at this myself.
