Hey bud wither it's a few mins long or a hour long I would watch it cause you have a lot to offer about trapping keep up the good work and wish ya the best this year on the line
Yes thanks for breaking these down into smaller segments... If they were any longer I probably wouldn't click and watch. I'm just a mid-50s old gal in the panhandle of Florida watching for entertainment value. I appreciate you!
Used walnut dye when I started out 50+ years ago. Didn't know if anybody still used this method. Glad to see some of the old ways still being used. Hey, they're free!
I've never trapped before and watching your videos has helped me a great deal. I dont feel so far behind in knowledge and I feel confident in 3 weeks when I set my trap line it will do great. Thank You for everything you've shared.
I really want to thank you. I started trapping thist year, due to some time on my hands after a head injury. Our season opened the 1st. So far I have 6 muskrat, 2 skunk, (neither sprayed) and 3 coons. I wouldn't have known where to start without your videos. Unfortunately here in Wa its all cage traps. But you really have helped prompt me in the right direction. From catching to prep. Thank you!
Stu I don't care if you make a 10 HR compilation of every animal you have caught I'll watch the whole thing man. Usually set your videos on repeat on the tv at night to go to sleep to 😂
Needed this exact information, I did a trap prep last year but never got around to using them cause I couldn’t afford the fur handling equipment I wanted. This year, Christ willing, I’ll be trapping for the first time!
Don’t wait for everything you need just get out and do it. If you can’t finish’s furs then freeze them. If you can’t skin sell them whole. Don’t miss a season you’ll regret it when your either to busy to do it or to old.
I agree with the other guy, just get out there and do it. I think it's better to learn the basic style so you understand the why and how, then you can apply those lessons to more complicated and gear intensive work. Remember, the old timers would build their own gear, fleshing boards are nothing more than a smooth tapered piece of wood. Nothing really special. Get out and do it!! And yes, I'm taking my own advice. I bought some traps, got some dye, made an anchor setting tool, will be making fleshing and stretching boards this summer and be ready for trapping season this fall since I missed the 21-22 season. Also I don't have a job now so money is pretty tight, I can make everything but the traps themselves. If I can do it so can you.
This is my first year trapping and I have already trapped 2 possums and a giant coon in 3 days. Thanks for your trapping knowledge. My trapping season start the first when is yours
I don't know what's going on for the second time same place the video stops. I seen your trap preps before they always get me going know that the season right around the corner. I'm in northern il season start nov 10th. I loss to stop to this year. I hope you have a good season 💯💯💯👍🏽
Hey man. I don’t know if you have been notified yet or not but you were brought up on the Meateater podcast that Steve Rinella does regarding him using your videos to learn how to extract skunk essence. Hopefully that is a foreshadow of them asking you to come on the podcast. Would definitely be awesome. Anyways, love you videos!
Stu, saw a cool headlamp in an add for your video you might want to check out. It's a Lightbar Pro LED, and I bought one about a week ago. Used it last night setting traps and so far I think it's awesome!!! Keep up the great content brother!! 👍👊
Just found your channel! The tips and tricks that you do, along with your step by step videos are awesome! You really break it down for us. I showed my uncle some of your videos and he was amazed. He said we used to have to get this kind of info from an old man down the road. Thanks again, and I’d like to see some different tips on the line this yr. Do you make your own bait?
I use white oak bark instead of walnuts . If you know someone with a tree chipper it makes it real nice . Just chip up a few limbs , add to the pot and it looks like you painted them black !
I’ve had good luck with paint and a sealer for my land sets. I just repaint and redip each year. I would like to see how you prep connibears. I don’t feel like painting is giving as much protection as I’d like, and I don’t have a vessel big enough to dip them.
My first season is getting close here in MO. I've got walnuts soaking in a 5 gal bucket to dye some 110's and bridger #2's. Gotta get them degreased first. When you use "cold" water to dye the traps, how long do you let them soak compared to boiling the dye water?
A hundred years ago a trapper never dyed or waxed his traps! The smart ones would hang them up in a tree at the end if the season rather than collect them and take them home. Of course, today you drive up to your set? Think about it; if you're going to bury the trap, why the need for dye and wax? Dyeing them is ridiculous, but waxing them once when they're new may help prevent rust. However, rust doesn't effect the traps function as much as you're led to believe. As with any endeavor, trappers are swamped by snake oil salesmen wanting to sell you something. Keep in mind; a dogs sense of smell is 400 times greater that yours and the more you handle a trap the greater the chance of contaminating it. If "time is money" consider all the time spent in the preparation of traps when you figure how much you lost doing what you love, and you will definitely lose! Check out the fur prices in the 70s and convert that to today's dollars. Good Luck!!

Great videos! Long or short I like your information on trapping!
Very helpful ( as always). You “filled in the blanks” on this process . I’ve never skimmed off the old wax. Thanks for the insight.

Keep the videos coming, I started to trap again, just retired and wanted to start trapping to keep myself busy. Trapped when I was a kid, loved it.

Myself and my youngest love watching your shows. Our season is almost here in NJ
Good video! Tips are always welcome even if just refreshing my mind. Great job and thank you!
Doesn't matter if it's 15 minutes or 45 minutes. My husband and I watch every video together.

Hopefully getting mine done this weekend. Thanks for the great videos. Enjoy your content
All you guys don’t forget. The best time of year for trap prep is right after you pull your last set of the season.
Id love if I'd still get notifications from RUclips for your videos
Stu I don't care if you make a 10 HR compilation of every animal you have caught I'll watch the whole thing man. Usually set your videos on repeat on the tv at night to go to sleep to 😂
Haven't watched it yet but I'm already smarter

What episode is it

Could you also use a large ladle to scoop the wax off the top?
Agreed
Do you recommend taking the last year wax off of the traps and putting new wax on just wondering
When are you going on the meat eater podcast with Steve Rinella he talks about wanting you on the show.
That would be a great episode

How hot do you need to get the water to get the wax to come off??

I enjoy watching your videos, thank you for all the information. Could you provide some information regarding bait and lure selection?
My trap prep is buy them and set them.Never do squat to them ever again.
Hey brother, do you scrape off the wax on the inside of the jaws so they’re no so slick? I’ve been doin that for years, not so sure if I need to?
Do I have to wax my old traps and what's the reason
Scent control ok got it help keeps animal from getting face caught 👍🏾
I am a walnut hauling, dying, trap waxing, keep my digits out of harms way guy.
Let's go Brandon
Do you ever spray paint land traps?
Can or did you make a video on cable prep for cable restraints?
Will those cinder blocks disintegrate or break up with the heat of the fire?
Willing candle wax work on traps?? Am a first timer.
were the same age, i used to sound like willie nelson too, get the nose surgery its a life changer. enjoy the line
I've been wondering if it was just me or not. Your comment validates what I hear also. Its miserable to not be able to breath thru your nose.
What's up
I have cleaned my traps in a cement mixer with sand in it ,the sand takes the wax off!!!
Yea ten or fifteen minutes is plenty ! If I see video 30 min I don't watch to long life short !

Time is money, however money is also money and I'd prefer to preserve my investment in traps as much as possible.
You should do a live stream I’ll toss ya some bucks it’s so beyond stupid that your stuff gets demonetized
Definitely NOT a gun! I just grabbed my rusty traps today.
It's not a big deal about wax there fine it's boiled thu
