As most "old-time viewers" of "THE TONIGHT SHOW" know, Ed McMahon carried on the tradition, started by Gene Rayburn during the Steve Allen era, of delivering an "integrated commercial" for one of the show's sponsors virtually every night. By the time he became the announcer under Johnny Carson, Ed's spots were usually taped separately, inserted into the program at the appropriate moment. Sometimes, Doc would "assist" {and Johnny himself might turn up on a rare occasion}...
Our original local Pizza Hut was one of the early ones with the "feel of a cozy den." It even had the fire pit in the center of the restaurant, and the secluded "lover's booths" in the corners of the restaurant. About nine years ago, our local franchisee decided to build a more modern Pizza Hut in a busier part of town. It looks like shit. Pizza Hut hasn't been the same for me since.
Unfortunately, Pizza Hut and Yum! Brands actually forces franchisees to do this, imposing fines on them when the restaurants aren't renovated frequently enough and to their standards.
I can honestly say that I have never seen this one before. I thought this was done on the Tonight show, but the ending makes me think otherwise. Then again the ending s on film and the pirch is on videotape. I saw the tribute Ed on the MDA telethon, it was very moving RIP.
I mean, I like their pan pizzas, and wish I could know the Pizza Hut pizza before they made major changes to how they made their pizzas, and some of the ingredients used, but that just looks like a pizza worth eating in one sitting.
Well, it was more a luxury that you went out at all to get a pizza like at Pizza Hut. You still had ovens if you had to settle for a frozen pizza from a supermarket.
@mikeycereal yes but they don't but use mozzarella slices like they did on this commercial. So now I know why these pizzas from pizza hut today taste different. Also many Pizza Hits are known to put a skimmish of sauce on the pizza like they just paint it with a paint brush. Bergen and others must be turning in the graves if they tried to eat pizza and some pizza huts today. Don't get me started on Little Cardboards now.
These days, Jimmy Kimmel often does an "integrated ad" for one of his sponsors at the start of his show- usually having Guillermo Rodriguez, his "parking lot security guard", on hand to mangle the ad copy and add to the spontaneous hiliarity of his spots...
this is back when Pizza Hut actually made their pizzas from scratch. Pizza Hut used to be good. it was awesome in the 70s and 80s and then started to go downhill in the 90's and now it is just pure garbage
Ben Middleton It's a shame. I'm only glad I knew what it was like back in the early 80's. Before home deliveries became a thing with them, it was like a luxury to go there.
Too bad they don't make them like that any more... I can order a pizza with extra sauce and it's still so dry I can't swallow it! I contact them and complain time and time again... The most I get out of it is a little free food - but it's still so dry I can't eat it! Sometimes they burn it, sometimes it's the wrong crust, sometimes the extra cheese that I paid for just isn't there. I get so tired of not having the pizza I grew up with - and used to love. :(
Leanne Watts Last night I made a pizza with sliced mozzarella cheese I cut from a hunk I bought at a store and it was so perfect. Nobody does that anymore since too many often chocked on that stringy cheese.

This 1971 ad has the pre-1967 Pizza Hut logo. The 1967 Pizza Hut logo was the one most of us remember fondly.

I think you mean 1976, I think that's when that logo came out. They were using this logo into the early 70's.
