    I was born in 1968. My father left for Vietnam just hours after I was born. And I'm lucky, my father came home. And I've heard so many stories from him and his friends. I'm lucky to have those also. Thank you to all that served. Hats off to you all.

    Vietnam was before my time, but my dad served 3 tours and my mom had orders to go but ended up in a car accident while on leave prior to shipping out so she was no longer medically eligible. I served in Afghanistan as a nurse because of my dad’s service and for those that served with him that did not make it home. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all and welcome you home. I am so sorry that you were treated so poorly and did not receive the welcome home like I did. You should have received a hero’s welcome but instead were spit on and called names. I appreciate you and your service and also thank you for sharing your stories.

    My 19 yr. old brother was a supply truck driver who was stationed at Da Nang. He was in a fire fight, where they had to stop and engage the Viet Cong. He had bullets pass through his pantlegs, but no wounds! That always intrigued him, since other Marines in that fight were seriously wounded. I told him he was protected by God while in Vietnam. He died in 2006, at age 56 with congestive heart failure. His autopsy showed that he had Agent Orange in his system, even after all those years!

    • @trustjah
      @trustjah 3 года назад +5

      @@Gieszkanne tell the government that made the soldiers go. Tell the companies that said it was a safe chemical. Many US service members are also effected by agent orange. They had no idea of the side effects on the ground. They would use the empty barrels for drinking water after "washing" them out. Also consider 25%+ were drafted and could be imprisoned should they refuse. If you were already a soldier, but refused to go you could get a minimum of 5 years prison. The death penalty can be considered for deserting during war time. Soldiers honest stories told by good journalists is a major part of what got the US to pull out. Had the US public not started demanding the end of the war they quite likely would have fought on for years more. Soldiers speaking out are a major part of the switch of opinion. Look at the major Vietnam protests. At their height it would be hard not to find vets in participation in the push against the war. And the fight to reveal war crimes was soldier led. Only reason many of the facts are known is because of them. At this point Vietnamese war vets of "the American war" hold more respect for US vets than the US public in general. The armed services are tools and never did the US treat its tools worse than during the Vietnam war. None of those interviewed in this video hold rank high enough to hold blame. Don't blame the factory worker for a bad design.

My dad would rarely talk about his time there but when he did I shut up and listened. 1. I knew he needed to talk about it and 2. I was afraid if I talked or asked any questions he would stop talking. My dad was the strongest, kindest man I have ever known and it breaks my heart that he passed with these horrors in his head. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for Vietnam vets and if I could meet each and every one of them today I would be honored to shake each and every one of their hands and let them know that I know I could never understand what you guys went through but I try to because I know how dirty all you were done .... And if anyone has the audacity to make statements about Vietnam vets working the government or whatever .. I can't believe that , that's a first time I've ever heard that. If anyone is entitled to government assistance it's our soldiers and military that should receive them . Marines , army all those who served in war should have access to everything they need , they did for their country and gave it their all and should be given all that's needed in return . I know it doesn't mean anything today because the damage is done but know there are people that are truly truly thankful for what you did and for your bravery ... To sweep mines on a road for 11 months is incredibly honorable and you should live your life knowing you did something incredible for your country and know your appreciated man . God bless you thank you again for what you did in Vietnam and I'm sorry for what you were put through when you came home after war . Heroes all. How do you stop such a War that wasn’t called that? Then the government didn’t bring home POWs despite knowing they were still alive in Loas. Up until Reagan it was known. But because there wasn’t the label WAR they weren’t considered POWs. We all carry scars from that time.

    My father whom is a Vietnam veteran, he calls the purple heart the vietnamese achievement metal. And he didn't talk about his time in vietnam until about 2 years ago, and he is in his 70s. Some of the stories he told me are about some of the bravest men I have ever heard stories about. And also are some of the scariest stories I have ever heard, brave and fearless, they don't make them like that anymore. May God bless every single man and woman who served in vietnam.

      That's why I think this nation could benefit from mandatory service. They had the "wartime" draft then, which is something different. Everyone who has served though, wartime or peacetime, draft or volunteer, always leaves with a better appreciation of their fellow Americans of all types. It promotes brotherhood and you see immediately that there are other Americans like you but perhaps a different color or with a different accent, serving their country, under adversity, potentially sacrificing all, for you and your country. It is an experience that you cant get anywhere else and we'd all be better off if there were more of it. (This production by NMSU is really excellent, the best I've seen...)

    Sure you are human, scared ? Angry? Sure if you listen to the majority of silent America, you can hear us , thank you,

      You wanna do a lot of killing? You can pick up your rifle and try again, I am sure the Vietnamese won't mind giving you another shot. You fuckers threw everything you had at the Vietnamese (short of nuclear weapons) and you lost. You lost again in Irag, and you lost again in Afghanistan. If you are so fucking brave, pick a fight with the Russian. I am sure they would turn your fucking country into a giant parking lot
