Ok guys listen. He put some "simple saves" because of how they saved it, their form, how they froze it, etc. because it can be hard to get it right. So they made "perfect" saves. They don't have to be desperation. They are still beautiful

Backup goalies that surprised me the most this season 1: Andrew Hammond 2: Calvin Pickard 3: Scott Darling 4: Michael Hutchinson 5: Andrei Vasilevskiy 6: Petr Mrazek (Only reason Cam Talbot, and Eddie Lack, aren't on here is because of how well they played last year, Devan Dubnyk doesn't count because he became Minnesota's number one goalie, Raanta isn't on here because he played very well last season plus he isn't Crawford's backup in the playoffs. Neither Jake Allen nor Brian Elliott are on here because Allen played well last year, but flopped in the playoffs, plus they acted more like a tandem than primary plus backup. The same goes for any other complaints for people who aren't on this list, they either didn't make as much of an impression on me this year, or they had played well enough in previous seasons that they didn't surprise me with their play this season. For those complaining as to why Calvin Pickard is above Scott Darling, one, his numbers are only slightly lower than Darling's and 2, Pickard doesn't play for Chicago, sorry Erik Johnson but we're not Chicago. Hammond is number one because he IS the reason Ottawa made the playoffs.)
If you're an Avs fan then you would know Reto won a few games for the Avs when Varlamov wasn't playing well, and he also backstopped the Avs to a 1-0 win against the jets at the end of the season. He is not a 3rd goalie

I've just recently gotten into hockey. during the rangers' run to the finals. so I don't understand. wouldn't the goalie want the blue area in front of the net as smooth as possible? to avoid bad hops?
There are a lot of big saves in this video (I'm not taking away from those at all) There are several clips here that don't meet the criteria for a save...like, If its hits the post, it's not a save...as a goalie you know that.
4:26 Varlamov with the double windmill... I don't think I've ever seen that before and 4:37 Luongo with a great save but the stands are sparse behind him. Very few witnesses.
