Record breaking weather all over the world will continue, this should not be a shock to anyone who follows the numbers. I don’t care what your beliefs are on the subject, the climate is changing and already has in a very short period of time. The sun will keep shining regardless, but these hurricane prone areas should only be building back hurricane proof buildings knowing more storms will be coming in the years ahead. I know the cost is high but so is having to build back every couple years…

Please be safe everyone. When they say evacuate, please evacuate or find shelter. You can always drive out of state and just stay at rest areas or where the hurricane doesn't hit if you have nowhere to go. If you don't have enough gas or money to get far, find shelter. Please, don't try to stick around.

This is an odd hurricane. The strongest winds are concentrated in a small area for a storm of this power, yet it sprawls across the gulf basin. The dopler image of the wind field is large but the strongest winds are close in.
In Merida the winds are 40 miles per hour but the 140 mph winds are are only a few tens of miles beyond that town.
The shape of the whole thing just looks like a formless low, not a category 4 storm with a distinct spiral.

They should make a Cat 5 + which they will never have a CAT 6.. but 180mph is unheard of.... could even get a little stronger.. but then again weather and winds alotf and or wind shear could change in 24 hours.. then it could keep the strenght and or weaken but in any case.. this is no joke.. get OUT.. ppl im sure were saying " Naaaaa. we will be OK with Helene"
