    Added note : after several days of flipping the tsunami it is becoming one of my favorite flippers. I didn’t mention this in the review because I didn’t know, but the Tsunami has adjustable weight pins that can added in between the base of the handle slabs, thus changing the bias to whatever you desire!
    I added all 6 of them, (3 in each handle) and it made a night & day difference with the way it flips and it’s overall bias. I almost feel as if 3 in each handle is too much handle bias tho and I will be removing 1 pin from each handle tomorrow to further experiment and find my personal favorite bias.
    Very cool addition to this balisong.

      The only problem I have with this knife is that it seems a overpriced for what you're getting. Not to mention the fact that they're raffling them. It feels almost scummy but eh.

    • @NateDawg14307
      @NateDawg14307  3 года назад +4

      @@paliophysical4481 that’s a fair opinion I suppose. Some people think drops are more unfair though, being that it’s almost just as random and comes down to who has the best latency / internet. When there’s hundreds if not thousands all waiting for a drop often times it can cause the website to crash too. With a knife of this popularity and such limited supply, it makes sense to me that it’s a random selection. To me it seems to be the only fair way.

      (Of course, yeah, ya have to make her look pretty after the surgery, so some sanding and other options.)

    Tsunami is now one of the highest rated bali from a purely flippability aspect. I hate overly handle vias balis so I prefer the nami with bo weights tbh. Also ive held many balis the nami even if lighter still has that grail quality feel to it. Its actually the best lighter feeling balisong ive ever held. Its light but feels like pure quality.

      @@NateDawg14307 the thing with those knives is they're customs made by one or 2 guys, but squid is a whole ass company, and the tsunami is a production knife, they couldve easily made it way cheaper, but because everyone worships squid, they didnt.

    • @NateDawg14307
      @NateDawg14307  3 года назад

      @@mr.animegod_yt what do you mean by custom made? Makers like JK design and OSP use the same machining that squid uses, just on a smaller scale. If you look at the manufacturing card in the beginning of the video, there’s 1 machinist and 1 assembler. The tsunami was stated that it will be a mid-tech similar to the orca, rather than a mass production balisong like the kraken. I do agree that it probably could have been cheaper, but if you look at the materials used it’s the same grade titanium as most other Bali’s in its class.

    • @mr.animegod_yt
      @mr.animegod_yt 3 года назад +4

      @@NateDawg14307 taking what grade of titanium a knife uses is redundant, even atropos uses 6Al-4V and his stuff is around $200. Now, dont get me wrong, I think any knife (special stuff like Damascus and timascus excluded, or if its hand made) over $300 is overpriced, theres nothing about a balisong that should make it as expensive as it is. Squid is being an ass charging this much for a production knife, mid-teach, or not. The tsunami isnt even that complex, yeah it has cool slots for weights, but that doesn't warrant a few hundred dollars more, and in all honesty, that blade is basic as fuck. JK, OPS, and the likes also overcharge, but they aren't a whole company (OPS actually might be, but I dont care about him, the matrix is a shit knife) yeah they could absolutely bring down their prices, but squid shouldnt have made it that high in the first place. I feel like I'm rambling on, but you get the point I'm trying to make. JK is cool to talk to, but Lucas was being a bitch when people said the tsunami was overpriced, a buddy of mine actually told JK he thinks his knives are overpriced, and JK took it like a champ. There are multiple things that all come together to lead me to hate the tsunami. Squid basically pulled a benchmade, they made good stuff for cheap, but got too arrogant and thought people would still buy overpriced shit from them because they already value them so much, and look where benchmade is at now; they charge $400 for a SS knife, and $600 for a basic channel knife with the ugliest balde I've ever seen (*cough cough* box cutter *cough cough).

  • @beeochg4
    @beeochg4 3 года назад +4

    Question for you Natedawg. Out of all the Bali’s you tried out which would you say is your favorite and why. Do you prefer channel or sandwich, all metal or G10 handles, stuff like that

    • @NateDawg14307
      @NateDawg14307  3 года назад +1

      I think my all time favorite balisong is the BRS Replicant, which would be sandwich G10 over titanium liners. I really like it because of how moddable it is and how fast and snappy it is.
      But that being said currently my favorite balisong is ether the tsunami, sentinel, or the Ti maryn. All of those are Ti channel. I like things with a small amount of handle bias and somewhere close to nuetral if that makes sense.

      Never owned one but I flipped one on display at a sporting goods store. Tolerances we’re solid and the bearings felt pretty smooth. I don’t think they’re worth $600 as a flipper, maybe an EDC, just because there are a lot of better flippers out there in that price range. You can probably find one for much cheaper on a secondary market.

    Man that looks nice af, but for a $700 price tag. How does one accurately judge its price when BRS has their Chabs in the $500 area and I see their two companies as similar opposed to JK who makes his customs. The Orca which is like $1,400

    • @NateDawg14307
      @NateDawg14307  3 года назад +2

      That’s a hard question. It really comes down to supply and demand on the secondhand markets. Orcas aren’t necessarily customs, rather midtechs. I don’t know how a company prices their balisongs, other than they must make a profit on top of the cost of materials, machining, etc.

      The hydro is not the prototype for the tsunami. The hydro is another Bali that squid is making and it’s going to be sandwich titanium and around the $400 price range if I’m correct, similar to the alpha beast I believe. (Probably won’t flip like one though and sure doesn’t look like it.) there hasn’t been a whole lot of info released on the hydro other than that, but there was a prototype on display at bladeshow. • @NateDawg14307

      The main difference is that KPL heavy is thicker than regular and has a higher viscosity, generally giving it better tolerances because the thick oil fills in between the minuscule spaces because the washers and bushings. 50-50 balance is always welcomed in my book, but some people can do that if they have the tools and constitution to do so, like I do.
    Luv ya Lucas, but stop the greed FFS. Move your Ops out of Cali. Stop taxing peeps for the taxes you need to pay. ONLY then, will Squid be for the people. /rant.

      I can understand where you’re coming from, but in my opinion anything can be considered a grail. A replicant can be a grail to someone if they truly love it that much. I think everyone has there own personal grail. More expensive knives tend to fall in the grail category just because of how sought after and rare they are. I wouldn’t necessarily call the tsunami a production balisong ether as Lucas has stated before it’s a mid tech, but I really don’t know how many will be produced in total. I know there will be atleast 100, maybe up to 200-300? Who knows.

      You might shocked to learn this, but most of these grails are being marked up literally 1000% in perspective to their manufacturing costs. The orca costs about $200 to make from what I understand, yet being sold for $1.4 on the market.

      @@NateDawg14307 What is included in that figure for manufacturing costs, though? Taxes? Rent on the production space, even if it's just a garage? Equipment and maintenence? Cost of delivery of materials? The taxes on the materials? Years of unpaid labor or expensive classes learning the craft? Healthcare or benefits for employees? If running a (very) small business for 20 years has taught me anything, it's all the expenses the customer is unaware of. Raees makes a good point about the business being based in California, though. Didn't our friend at Machinewise move to Arizona to manufacture balis? Aren't his prices reasonable? Just sayin'. :) Running a business in California is a big middle finger to the consumer.
