Mate...can't believe you've got a Raleigh Wisp there. That was my first bike build at 11yrs of age. I saved up my paper round money back in '73. Peddled down five miles with a bodged up wooden go kart tied to my bicycle. I paid £4.50 for the Wisp in bits. Cycled home n then started trying to work out on my own how to put it all together at 11yrs of age. Ended up using an old metal vacuum pipe as the silencer..a piece of my mum's tights as an air filter. It cost me 11p to fill the half gallon fuel tank up with 2star petrol and 1p shot of two stroke oil. Happy days on the fields near where I lived..no suspension but great first off roading experience. That was my start of being a biker rest of my life. I'm 60 this year and still riding. Wish I still had that old Wisp.
Awesome build! Agree a lot about your "weight issue" 😊 Adventure bikes should be light! Inspired me in my way to lighten up my XT660Z as much as possible.
My equal favourite bike I've owned. I had one for two years from 2005, then some cocky Essex boy pulled out in front of me and wrote it off. Before that I went to Portugal on it twice. 202 kilos is a good result. Stunning bike. Well done. I wish it was mine.
Great bike Chris. I still have my 03 950s which I bought brand new from the first shipment to Australia. Still the best bike I've ever owned and I'm still riding it. A keeper for sure. I have recently bought an 06 950se to build a fast enduro bike for more single track trail riding which it does ok now but with some of your weight loss ideas it will be even better.
Your electrician friend was a lifesaver. Incredible build, please let me know if you ever decide to sell this work of art! My 2017 KTM 1090R would love a roommate to share the garage!
My 950adv S 2003 was used by GPR to build the first prototype of the 2in1 exaust, i still have this bike and i love it, i still have the Fabrizio Meoni sign on the tank (i've meet him during an academy.. was a realy great man and a legend)
I talked with KTM reps and they stated that sourcing parts will be increasingly hard for the old 950/990 bikes. Those bikes also suffered from a host of reliability issues and were a pain in the ass to service.
@@h2489-m2lyeah talked to a mechanic that worked on this bikes and there were a list of problems. But if you are handy and search the internet you can fix those things. If you leave the bike to a shop it will be expensive I think.
Great work mate 👏👏👌👍 you have a one more subscriber 😃👍👍 Great bike I love that model 👌 I will like to buying a original 950 anyway you have a hilarious bike 👏👏👌👍 driving carefully and cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹 👍
A Boano (an actual Dakar racer) suspension is what separates the wheat from the chaff. Look for their products. They are amazing. P.S. I'm so missing my 990 R.
Looks great ive got one of the last 990 Adventure's again in white its on a 13 plate and got the R engine in it@ 113hp i think plus ive got the taller suspension in there .... there a bonkers bike for sure
I don't have a 950 or a 990 but I have been dreaming of doing a build like this for years now! If you are looking for rear fuel tanks, custom Aluminum is always an option, or the two online retailers that I could find are Landmark Works out of Italy and African Queens out of Germany! Happy hunting and please sell that bike to me some day lol
Awesome job! What a Beast! Congrats You’ll always be WELCOME and well trreated here in PORTUGAL 🇵🇹 Hope to se you soon, trashing dirt somewhere in our “backyard”... Cheers mate! 🍻🍺✊🏼✌🏼🙌🏼
Well worth the wait! Great job - well done. 👍 The white against the blue frame (what you can see of it under the bodywork!) looks really classy. And that rear shock looked like it came from a truck - that's some serious suspension.
Love my 2012 990 ADV R but it’s just too heavy and wide for me to confidently be aggressive on off road. That’s why I also have a 690 and a 500exc. The 690 is the best compromise between the other two, so it gets ridden the most. After seeing your video here, I’m inspired to find an old 950!
I fitted the same Ti GPR end can, and 2-1 link pipe on my 2004 950 Adventure. The welds on that were horrendously bad. In fact so bad I sent my first system back. Self amalgamating tape isn't great for the harness unless a really high quality one . It becomes a gooey mess under even moderate heat. I remember using some left over from my bike to secure my headphone wires. When I took my helmet off I had black goop suck to me where it had melted slightly. It also isn't that robust and hardens a little and breaks (at least it did on my boat). Nice bike though. Unfortunately mine was stolen a few years ago. Moved on to an 890 adventure.
Great build. Love the B&W (I have the same on my biles - colour frame, B&W body) - maybe keep the stickers off it unless you have to. You'll find 2KG sprung (or maybe like 700g unsprung ;-) Looking forward to seeing it in action.
Throw set 39mm or 41mm FCR on it makes hole lot difference , I have 1 of each on both my Rally prep 950SE & baja prep 950SE. Surprised you never went for a Inconel exhaust for the added impact strength when under heat stress - next step up from a Ti exhaust
Well done. No mention of the battery, or I missed it. Simple 7 kg reduction . . . . . USE a LFP battery (LiFePo4). I cant imagine wgy people still use those antique lead batteries. I started to use the LFP in my BMW HP2 Enduro, (which was only 196kg stock to start with and i had it down to around 187kg full gastank). After that, i use LFP batteries in all my bikes, up to my old 103 Dyna FXD, with 107hp and 162nm. Work great, much better than the old junk.
Battery came earlier, but yep Lithium all the way 😁. I’ve got a couple of batteries and then some high current connectors so it’s easy to share then between all my bikes.
Hey Chris, I watched this last night and tried to look back for previous build videos the next I could find was 10 months ago. Did you not film parts of the build? I wondered what you did with the fuelling side and air box as you’ve swapped to a 990 which was a fuel injection with ecu. Great videos and awesome build 👍
I want to do the single front disc on my 950S. Did you change the bottom cap of the forks? I'm sure I've read somewhere you can get the WP part to replace. Great job. Been looking forward to this episode. Bring it over to Sardinia 😁👍
Hi there chap, doing a 990 project myself and i,ve used KTM exc forks in it with single 320 disc, i,ve used a standard exc brembo front caliper but i had a brembo radial master cylinder in stock so used that but this seems to feel a bit wooden, it works but seems on off sort of, did you choose to use an off road brembo master cylinder or was this to get the feeling at lever, I get the feeling the radial cylinder I used has to much power if this is thing?
EXC internals in those adventure forks you mean? Cartridges, springs, etc? Adventure forks (the tubes) are longer than EXC forks despite the fact that the latter have more suspension travel than the former. Looking to go to 300mm front and rear (perhaps 330 rear) - just like my EXC 500. P.S. What did you do with that front brake?
Hello mate really have to ask about the exhaust. It does seem rally neat but what about heat. Did you better or worsen the issue and how was the heat on your leg
If we dont get at least a 10 minute action video like with the 1290R in those wonderful scenaries where you live, I m sure were gonna lose our freaking minds. Please ! Btw what travel does the bike have now ?
Amazing job Chris, well done. We might have to borrow it off you for a test ride!

We welcome you to Portugal Chris, awesome bike and work btw
This is amazing, Chris. It's beautiful. Congratulations to you and all the people who helped you.

What an absolute stunner of a bike! Turned out terrific.
great job , Chris! My 950 sits in the garage but will be running soon after starter and flywheel have been changed
I have bike envy. 😂. Well done on your build, a great result
Well done Chris! Such an awesome build! Keep us updates as I'm sure it will progress

That's a good look with the white plastic. Dunlop D606 is a great front tire for that bike. Great build!
A beautiful bike. Great job. Looks awesome in white with no grafics.
Well done Chris. If you haven't a lithium battery already that would certainly help to shed the extra weight. Cracking bike
Fantastic that you’ve got the 950 done.
Looks and sounds fab. 😁👍🏍🧡😎
This series has me looking for an adventure R.. would love to see some more riding and comparisons with the later 1090/1190 bikes.
I talked with KTM reps and they stated that sourcing parts will be increasingly hard for the old 950/990 bikes. Those bikes also suffered from a host of reliability issues and were a pain in the ass to service.
@@khakimzhanmiras really? I thought that consumers had sorted most of the known problems?

Love how 950’s sound 😍
Actually a 990 with a 950 carb.
Awesome, But the tears the first time you drop it in on some rocks.
CONGRATS!!! beautiful 950, cheers
I really do enjoy your infectious enthusiasm for whatever you are doing.
Could watch this stuff all day
We thought this project was dead. Way to go, guys!!! Love it!!!!
Nope, we’ve just been really busy filming other stuff.
Keep it all white looks amazing
Great build. Love from India🇮🇳
Hope you enjoy your time in Portugal ride that beast!
A Boano (an actual Dakar racer) suspension is what separates the wheat from the chaff. Look for their products. They are amazing. P.S. I'm so missing my 990 R.
We should arrange a meet for next year 2023 in Portugal. I’ll be taking my 2013 990 adventure R. Great work!
Brilliant! Have a blast man. So cool 😎
Love the series and the bike. I ride a 2012 990 Adventure so this has been fun to watch. Enjoy the bike. They are fantastic.
OH MY GOSH! been missing this series
Great work. Looking forward to seeing the shakedown runs (and the front wheel in the air).
Super nice bike en super nice job. I hotel the same tire on my 990

Looks fantastic
Love it, really well done series and mega bike!
Such a cool video, CHEERS CHRIS
Very happy for you !
You got Neil helping you!
Awesssssome bike..but it would be super awessome if it had some Dakar inspired decals on it...😍😍😍

Well done!
Great looking bike, and a nice project to follow! What front fender is that?

£6-7k, I’d say it was worth every penny 😃🏍👍!!!

I am with you, I ride an XR650R and I feel a light weight 700ishcc bike is the ideal dual sport/adv.
Sound super!
Amazing ! Need to see what that dash is ! Let’s see a comparison between a 890 / 1290 SA
well done
Well done, Sir - this has been a great series to follow and I'm super happy for you it turned out better than expected.
Go well dude.
Ship it to Portugal I'll keep it at my place 😁

That’s a pretty sweet bike for sure! Is there anything that sounds as awesome as the KTM V-Twin? Best!
Great job mate! What instruments did you use instead of the original dash ? Looks like a tablet.
Great build. Love the B&W (I have the same on my biles - colour frame, B&W body) - maybe keep the stickers off it unless you have to. You'll find 2KG sprung (or maybe like 700g unsprung ;-) Looking forward to seeing it in action.

Amazing work fella, love seeing projects like this. Looking forward to the ripping videos 🤘🏻
Awesome build bud 👍🏻
Love the video and thanks for sharing. Do any KTM 450 rims will fit? What are the advantages?
The sound is just..ungodly..starting it in the garage didn't point to it being this insane...good work!

Mind the gpr can doesn’t hit the swingarm when suspension is fully compressed!
Great build series an these 950&990 still male sense by even today's standards
Well done!
