Correct. I looked up on Intelius and found the Blairs (from San Jose, CA) at the time this was filmed (2004-2005) were, in fact, in their 60's. Donna was 60 and Jim was 65. This year Donna turns 71 and Jim turns 76. Not sure if they still live on the ship or not. They seem like nice enough people. ;-)
How often do they upgrade the amenities for the residents on the ship? It must looked dated now. I’m sure there are a set number of floor plans and design options.
Kyle Mikesell someone did plan a ship like that. It’s called the Freedom Ship. It would be so big that the Queen Mary 1 and 2, the Titanic, and the Seawise Giant tanker ship could fit inside it.

Hmm... cruise ships have a lifespan of about 20 years. Ships have to be put in dry dock every few years for maintenance. I once dated a woman who worked on a Russian cruise ship. Her ship went into dry dock every year for refitting and maintenance. What happens to the passengers and all their stuff then?
Nothing happens. The ship just gets worked on and their rooms may get cleaned such as floor cleanings/polishing, air vents cleanings, appliances checked or fixed/replaced, etc.

I never wanted to struggle so I chose a career that pays well and save/invested. I pay my bills too but didn't want kids and lived within my means. So I probably could afford this. Too much home for me but wouldn't mind a small apartment with large balcony and high speed internet.

In the end you'd only be lonely doing a cruise like that... People would only like you for your money and not care to see the real you..

Unpopular opinion Venice ain't all that 😶 my least favourite Italian city. A cruise ship is a welcomed sight. Rome and Florence are the real gems.

I’d guess they update the tech every couple years for the “public” parts of the ship, and leave the updates in the homes up to the residents.

My one concern would be wifi/internet. It is really bad on regular cruise ships.
