Yea, i agree, when someone says "budget" sleeping bag and then says 190usd, then i realize, "budget" is relative. Someone may say 300usd is chump change, someone else it might be a months wages.
My wife favorited that tent on Amazon because we're gathering gear for a camping trip this year. After looking at the specs and reviews, it seemed like a solid choice, but I was still skeptical because of the price point. Your review is super helpful, and we will probably start out with that tent 😊
It’s a great tent for the price. Has kept me dry through absolute downpours and that’s always my biggest concern. I just purchased an ultralight one person tent to try but this will still be my go to whenever my wife decides to join. Glad the video was helpful!
10:40 I still use my SleepInGo to this day. I love the fact that it's so light weight. The trick is to not just inflate it, but to blow it up to a high pressure.
Lol well I’m glad you like it! Definitely beats the hard ground or a foam mat that’s for sure. One reason I love backpacking is the diversity in gear and setups. What works for one may not work for another and vice versa. Thanks for the support and if you’re in the area maybe I’ll see you out there some time!
I love all my budget gear. Sometimes you can get amazing deals on well known brands if you’re willing to get an older model. I do need to upgrade my sleeping pad. Thinking the Paria Outdoors Recharge XL for $100.
Heyyy!! Glad to see someone else with a Kelty synthetic bag. I got the -7° C mummy bag and it stuffs nicely (barely lol) into my bottom compartment, and weighs like 3 lbs which is fine. My whole bag weighs maybe 25-30 lbs
It’s funny, I was just looking into upgrading and for the price/weight/warmth comparison, I honestly couldn’t find much better. I was trying to shed some weight but it looks like my Kelty is here to stay!
Synthetic down is just fake down material used for insulation. It tends to be cheaper but also good for people who don’t like using animal products and what not. If even had synthetic down items that were warmer than real down.
dude you need to be affiliate marketing the shit out of this video man! Throw some amazon affiliate links in that description for us and get you some money!
Sounds like you definitely know more about this stuff than I do lol. I tried to add links to the gear but they weren’t coming up clickable. I’ll see if I can figure it out and at least get the links up so others can check it out. Thanks for the support man!
@@ByondTheNorm I’d definitely look into “what is Amazon affiliate marketing” and then for sure paste the links to all your gear here! Happy to help! Thank you for the good video!!!
Good video. In the backpacking community they say “buy once, cry once”… I also bought a bag I ended up replacing it with an osprey Exos 48. A cheap tent I replaced with a Marmot Tungsten. And I also have the LW210 for the summer 😂. Oh and is that West mountain shelter that you set your tent up in? No tents in trail shelters!! (Just teasing idc lol)
🤦🏼♂️that is so embarrassing haha but in our defense, it was our very first time backpacking and my wife’s first time in a tent EVER! We had absolutely no clue what was acceptable and what wasn’t, my only focus was making sure she had a decent time so I’d be able to talk her into going again. We’ll never make that horrible mistake again! Thanks for the support! I’ll have to check out the tent you have. I’ll be definitely upgrading mine within the next season or two.
@@ByondTheNorm hahaha no need for apologies just poking some fun!! I didn’t realize you guys were from the tristate area when I clicked the video and i was shocked when I saw the shelter I was like oh heck is that Harriman? Keep up the good work guys and have fun 🙌

I have that cook set in my amazon cart. Will not be purchasing. I'm so glad I found this video. We are gearing up for our first trip. In July we're backpacking the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Upgrade your misuse of the term ‘price point’ and speak proper English: just say ‘price’. Price point is a technical term and is not a synonym for price. See, if you do it right, you save the weight of all those unnecessary electrons and help keep my blood pressure down. And you’ll sound like you know what you’re talking about.

Dude! Small world!
08:16 I just discovered your channel today and I spent a night in that very same shelter 3 days ago while soloing the SBM trail!
It's sad to see that a lot of people are getting priced out of a great hobby. Good video!
New drinking game.......every time he says "bad boy"....you take a drink.

What do you mean by synthetic down sleeping bag?
Synthetic down is just fake down material used for insulation. It tends to be cheaper but also good for people who don’t like using animal products and what not. If even had synthetic down items that were warmer than real down.
Finally someone that actually hates the Sleepingo 😂

The “so I went to REI” after the explanation of the horrible Amazon gear got me every time 😂
Haha you win some you loose some from Amazon
I noticed that as well. Seemed more of making a pitch for REI.
Try the tekton pillow or the sussie sport one i use this to camp and on road trips amazing and cost 10-15 dollars
I’ll definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion and support!
You bought stuff based on how cool it looked didn’t you
Hell Yea. Finally some crap i can afford for my first trip
Glad you enjoyed it and I hope it helps! Enjoy your first trip. Hope you end up loving it and going back for more. Thanks for the support!

great video! And well within most people’s budget/ upgradable budget.
Thanks for the support! Hoping it helps at least a few people get started and get out there!
I bought a cabula’s multi day 4000
Brother I got the same tent but in blue and I love it
Hell yea man! It’s a great beginner tent!
@@ByondTheNormdo you think it’s a beginner tent because of the weight?
The only budget item was the tent. Should rename this video, You can't hike comfortably on a budget..
If 70$ for a backpack isn't budget then idk what is. It's so cheap I wouldn't trust it.
Lmao you absolutely can hike comfortable on a budget
Nice vid. 😊
now i want those trekking poles
