Submerged Mardale village reappearing from Haweswater. September 2021.
Those unfamiliar with the area would never know there once used to be a settlement that had sat in the Haweswater valley up until the 1930s
It was inhabited by a small farming community, and had a church and an inn called the Dun Bull.

Thanks for watching David. It really makes it worthwhile that a few people enjoy the videos. I'd hoped the music I chose (by Jesse Gallagher) gave it a ghostly ethereal quality and the lapping water sound would make it feel like you're there.

Hi first time I saw haweswater like this in mid 80s it was much lower than this and you could actually walk down between walls and over a bridge to the island and mud was all cracked....needless to say that year it rained so much it filled right back up🤣...awesome footage...atb dave
Hi, thank you for watching. I haven't been there in about 30 years. The reappearing village made national news so we went to see for ourselves, it was absolutely crammed with people who watched the news and did the same.

Thank you, I went back and took a bit more footage, the water level was lower but the weather wasn't too good for the drone, still got enough to maybe make another video.

I went there about 30 years ago when it was on the national news, it was jammed with cars and people who all had the same idea. First time I've been back since then - much quieter.

Thank you very much. I subscribed to your channel last year and followed your updates on the new bridge at Pooley Bridge (wish you'd do a 'Pooley Bridge a year on' follow up video. It was your videos on Mardale village and your interesting commentary that inspired me to drive over there, what a fascinating place, and beautiful too! I hope that the music and secondary 'lapping water' track gave it an ethereal quality, like the ghosts are still there.
The village itself was Mardale. Mardale Green was the grassy area between the upper and lower parts of the lake, as it then was.... It was mainly used for grazing cattle and sheep...... Take a look at the old signpost next time you drive through Bampton (which you must do to get to get here) It shows the village name (Mardale) and the distance to it......

Be careful flying a drone at 200+ feet over Haweswater, as the RAF often use the area for (very) low flying training. They can arrive unannounced, and usually fly the full length of the lake, climbing rapidly to clear the hills at the end of the lake, where the car park is..... I was walking down the side of the lake opposite the hotel a few years back, and they frightened me out of my skin. They just seemingly appeared from nowhere.....
