      Got both of these on my desk in front of me right now.... so very little to chose between the two tbh. What seals it for me is the You Box's write-to-removable drive capability, something that was maybe the only fault in the KM2

    a shame that the ethernet port is only 100mbps

    • @WOTBoxTV
      @WOTBoxTV  3 года назад +5

      Yeah, i hear ya. Not a huge problem though, good enough for 4k streaming (both Netflix and Prime recommend a 25mbps speed) - unless of course you need more speed for downloading other files, in which case the wifi will pull about twice that.

    Thank you so much for your brilliant review and clearing out this Djungle of Android TV boxes. I understand YOU BOX and Nokia 8000 are very similar. Would the main difference be 1 extra USB 2.0 connection, SD card reader and less advanced remote control without backlit for the YOU BOX? Which of those 2 boxes would you recommend?

    • @WOTBoxTV
      @WOTBoxTV  2 года назад

      Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I missed the RUclips notification.
      Yep, you're right about the difference in ports which i feel is enough to swing it in favour of the Youin Box given that performance is pretty much identical.

    Good to see budget boxes are getting much better & their remotes. (Shame you can't use mapper on some buttons but hey hoo)
    Some of the remotes I've had over years on budget Chinese boxes have been terrible. Another great vid on a solid budget box competitor to Google's Chromecast TV. "no bullshit technology" animation - luv it ;-)

    • @WOTBoxTV
      @WOTBoxTV  3 года назад +2

      Yep, the Google reference remote (same as on the Mecool KM2) is a winner. I got the Chromecast with Google TV at launch in September last year and liked it a lot despite the need to buy a (compatible) hub to be able to add extra storage. However, since then I've been smitten by moth the KM2 and this delight. Very little difference between them, though I prefer the You Box by a hair. But seriously you can't go wrong with either of them. The boot animation is cracking!

    • @WOTBoxTV
      @WOTBoxTV  3 года назад +1

      @@joeblogs6415 yeah, i hear you.
      There are definitely 2 camps on the "use wifi or use ethernet" debate. Personally I always prefer to go ethernet for stability, but understand that for others it's not possible or inconvenient, All devices here at home (2 Shields, KM2, Chromecast with Google TV and 2 TiVo Stream 4Ks) are hardwired, though as I say, that's a personal choice for each individual.
      The inabillity to write to external storage was a disappointment. (my way round that is to send to google Drive and then download else where---bit of a hassle frankly)
      An alternative you might want to look at is the Youin You Box - that one does allow USB writing. otherwise very similar to this KM2 ruclips.net/video/h3oz5nYvSAg/видео.html

    • @WOTBoxTV

      You Box is better - but it IS very close! BOTH boxes are very good vale and performance in general is the same.
      For me, You Box wins because you can transfer files to external storage (USB). Every other aspect of performance and use is more or less the same.

      @@melvynwarner3087 odd because I had ITV Hub, BBC iplayer and All4 working on this... I've since given it away. But all those apps were sourced from the code I mentioned above (and I have them on my Mecool KM2 - all working fine).
      I think ITV Hub and iPlayer are on the Play Store if you're in the UK. Others, like All4, My5 etc may not be as they're made for phone use (though might* work on Android TV).... it's up to Channel 4 etc to make an Android TV app, but they choose not to. Freeview were threatening an imminent app a couple of years ago, but it never materialised.
      You could always try casting from phone to the device
