  • What’s up everybody. In todays video I will be installing a custom pre filter kit from 10-80 Dirt Sports on my 2020 Honda Talon 1000x4. This is by far one of the nicest looking pre-filter kits out there that not only looks awesome, it sounds awesome, it increases cleaner air flow, it keeps your stock air filter box and stock air filter much cleaner requiring less filter changes which overtime saves you money and time. This kit is very easy to install and requires very minimal tools.

The new version does away with the metal top plate and uses a heavy duty grommet in the fender. Pipes are black which doesn't matter since you can't see it anyway. Looks sharp. Great how-to video!

I bought this for my 2019 talon. It works great. No more dirty oem filter. This was a easy install. It is really made of quality material and the fit was really. The 10-80 filter is super easy to clean it looks really nice. 👍

Great video! Two Questions - I have a small K&N pre-filter mounted inside the air box now (under the oem filter) Would using both the K&N and the 10-80 be too restrictive on air flow? Second, how do you like the K&N replacement filter for the OEM? Some say it doesn't seal well. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

Good question, I don’t think so but two pre filters and a main filter could be pushing it. I liked the external pre filter as it’s easy to clean on the go.

Yes by doing this you are restricting air flow. Causing a rich condition. These after market company have very little to no engineering or R and D.

I’m assuming this would void the warranty.

Don’t see why it would, it’s just a prefilter. But you can always ask the dealer what they think to be sure.

Great idea but $260 for a filter and piece of pvc?

It’s actually a high quality filter (better than k&n) with a metal powder coated pipe, and a metal powder coated top plate to match the body panel and has been designed/bent into the perfect shape to fit. Yes, a cheap DIY version can be made with pvc and clamps but this one is much more professional looking.

@@DieselLegiance I'm looking at using an aluminum 90* intercooling tube then cutting my own plate and tig it to the pipe. K&N + tube + outerwear looking at under $100. The design is perfect though.

That works if you have the tools and skill set to do it which it sounds like you do. 👍🏼

This isn't some cheap Chinese Communist Party crap made by Uyghur slaves that most folks buy to save a few dollars while putting Americans out of work. It's one of the best "first" mods you can do to a Talon. It may cost $270, but that's less than the cost four or five OEM filters, which you'll have to buy every thousand miles at best. The reusable Desertcraft pre-filter is easily cleaned and easily accessed TO clean. Sure, you could "roll your own", but by the time you buy materials, design it, build it, modify it, and finally got it to fit, you'll need to get it to a powdercoater - unless you don't care if your Talon looks janky. Far easier to just buy the 10-80 kit, drink some trail sodas waiting for it to arrive. Spend 45 minutes installing it, and have a proven solution that looks great and matches your Talon!
