I hope we can come and see the tumbler frame along with the locking sheet. I was an apprentice (MSP) when Hellifield North was taken out, which was itself a Midland tumbler frame. Delighted to see this.
This is a much talked about thing between us, effectively it’s forcing you to completely clear the lever to reverse before you can return it to normal, it’s not as has been hinted some sort of system to prevent lever damage if you try and throw the lever, that’s done on later frames by use of a star retarder on the lever tail (effectively a big star spring washer, tighter it gets ,slower you end up letting the lever go), these are still in use on traditionally larger box frames where there’s a lot of down rod from lever to beam ,that extra weight pulls back heavily on levers causing them to return to the frame too fast and can lead to damage. T could be suggested it’s an aid , for pulling off long pulls as you can sit the lever half way then re pull but again not sure on that, the best suggestion is that it enforces you fully pull off then can put back, maybe with the block system enforcing correct operation. I’m sure someone will know out there for sure. The only one I’m aware of on the network ..though the ratchets removed is on great rocks tappet frame, on number 14 lever, which is a starter.
Great to see this being on show. At least these frames are fairly easy to put together and do not need a 'hole' underneath. Well done everyone.
Well done to all concerned ! fabulous bit of preservation.
Well done on gettng Giggleswick rehomed👍

If you know when you’re going and can let me know either Simon or Stuart can be informed and May be about
The 'hole' underneath is the locking room.
What’s the ratchet system for on one of the signals?
