@@Jet_Set_Go A fair few object models and textures have been updated also by the look of it. I'm pretty sure the environment is slightly 'busier' with stuff and detritus lying around. The foliage and outdoor areas in general look better here than in the original to my eye. Besides that, OG HL2 was awash with teal lighting and muted tones, whereas the remaster uses a much more natural-looking palette.

From memory it was a vending machine that leads to the hidden passage, now its a bland poster on a wall with a texture on it that would make my teacher ask me "do you really want to be here?"

I remember getting my PC to a friend to download HL2 when it launched via Internet and had to play it in offline mode at home because we didn't have internet back then. For me one of the finest games ever made. The physics were nuts compared to other games.

This does look pretty sick, definitely gives off a darker vibe. Some of the original atmosphere is gone (would've preferred way more fog for the coastal levels) but this new atmosphere fits pretty well.

My advice as an artist, is to conduct a remaster via the squint method. Simply put, if you squint while looking between the two; you shouldn't notice any big glaring differences. A more comprehensive method to check work is just performing a blur pass (like Gaussian blur) periodically on screenshots of your updated version. Because you're trying to match the tones and aesthetics while upping the resolution. So an easy way to see just colors rather than all your gritty details you're adding, is to stop seeing the tiny details and look at the overall composition. To clarify, this isn't me saying you should make a blurry mess as your remaster but more so use that as a tool to check your progress against the original. Not every plank and panel needs loud & grainy normal maps. The key to a good remaster is knowing what does and doesn't require more details thrown at it. Often times less is more.
Its modders like this that have kept halflife 2 and other games alive well past thier release dates. I made maps for HL1 and HL2 back in the day, great times. Respect for the modders out there that still have the passion to make content.
Well that amount of detail is amazing and it looks very good. Congrats to the developers. But... unfortunately it loses its atmosphere, the loneliness and emptiness of the Rout Canal and Highway 17. Still, very well done.

And the new elements for example the gun from the car, and that you can take the machine gun in the bunkers opens up new ways to play

Mmmmm a very nice memories. I still remember how stunned i was for the first time i entered the world of H-L back in the 90s and then HL2 came along and blasted me away.....and a little known fact. One of the level designers was Bulgarian and some major portion of the city buildings was designed according to some suburbs of the capital :D Overall a very nice game. They don't make such games these days. No wonder Valve is scared from HL3 as the expectations are too damn huge! Wonrdering if we are going to leave long enough to witness the release of HL 3.....

Sometimes when I see videos like this, working to drastically enhance story driven first person games as much as graphically possible, I often wonder what a first person movie or show would look like. Shot for shot, frame by frame real life replica of a video game's events (without any additions or pandering to modern audience of course) Something like Hardcore Henry, but it takes itself much more seriously with a much larger budget. Of course, I know this'll never happen, but it's a nice thought.

В случае с "видео про Моссман" их нужно ставить на балконах по бокам от комнаты управления, а самому становиться за ними и контролировать обе лестницы. В случае, с ожиданием Аликс их нужно поставить в самом узком месте, там где аптечки на стене, две в сторону где железные щиты и одну в обычный проход - в такой конфигурации две турели защищены железными щитами и дают очень плотный огонь в узком секторе, а третью турель поддерживает огнем сам игрок, и то же даёт плотный огонь в узком секторе. С такой конфигурацией я выходил из боя со 100% здоровья. Иными словами - Спарта рулит, все три турели в месте с игроком нужно расположить в узком коридоре с аптечками, а там уже можно поиграть с расположением.

I DL'd a combo like this in 2019 and now IDEK which one I have. But Cinematic with vanilla+ character models combined with MMOD is a bitching hybrid. Difficult, too. I remember getting stuck on the strider fight in the courtyard and running out of rockets (they take 9 to kill in MMOD instead of 3) and basically soft locking before giving up. Hence why I don't remember which version I have, lol.
I honestly never played any HQ games, i always played old games, so, my standars are low, and this? this may be a whole experience whilst still playing and old game!
This demonstrates pretty well why I've always thought there's absolutely no need to improve the graphics of any game beyond hl2. Any graphical realism beyond that is a waste of effort that would've been better spent on literally any other aspect of the game. I can't tell that much difference here, and where I can, I'm not sure if it's an improvement.

Sometimes when I see videos like this, working to drastically enhance story driven first person games as much as graphically possible, I often wonder what a first person movie or show would look like. Shot for shot, frame by frame real life replica of a video game's events (without any additions or pandering to modern audience of course)
Something like Hardcore Henry, but it takes itself much more seriously with a much larger budget.
Of course, I know this'll never happen, but it's a nice thought.

Турели в Нова проспект нужно грамотно расположить и самому занять грамотную позицию. В случае с "видео про Моссман" их нужно ставить на балконах по бокам от комнаты управления, а самому становиться за ними и контролировать обе лестницы. В случае, с ожиданием Аликс их нужно поставить в самом узком месте, там где аптечки на стене, две в сторону где железные щиты и одну в обычный проход - в такой конфигурации две турели защищены железными щитами и дают очень плотный огонь в узком секторе, а третью турель поддерживает огнем сам игрок, и то же даёт плотный огонь в узком секторе. С такой конфигурацией я выходил из боя со 100% здоровья. Иными словами - Спарта рулит, все три турели в месте с игроком нужно расположить в узком коридоре с аптечками, а там уже можно поиграть с расположением.

Anything was possible when this game came out. Now look how far we've stagnated, cookie cutter bubblegum bullsht w/shallow, "please everybody" plots written by fools. Half Life is a masterpiece. I used to intentionally try to slow these games down to get more out of them but this speed run was hilarious, learned a few things too. Thnx
I DL'd a combo like this in 2019 and now IDEK which one I have. But Cinematic with vanilla+ character models combined with MMOD is a bitching hybrid. Difficult, too. I remember getting stuck on the strider fight in the courtyard and running out of rockets (they take 9 to kill in MMOD instead of 3) and basically soft locking before giving up. Hence why I don't remember which version I have, lol.
I honestly never played any HQ games, i always played old games, so, my standars are low, and this? this may be a whole experience whilst still playing and old game!

This demonstrates pretty well why I've always thought there's absolutely no need to improve the graphics of any game beyond hl2. Any graphical realism beyond that is a waste of effort that would've been better spent on literally any other aspect of the game. I can't tell that much difference here, and where I can, I'm not sure if it's an improvement.
