I really hope the middle hive pulls through! As for name, how about naming them after the Bee Gees cause they're stayin' alive. Individually could name them Barry, Maurice and Robin after the members
I love this name, thematic, catchy, everything you need. As much as "phoenix hives" has a ring to it, it's a bit too stuffy and I have the suspicion (baseless) that it'll jinx them. Bee Gees is a strong winner
Really impressed with your closeups. Way better than "There's the queen, eggs " that are what you get from most channels. Speeding through the inspection does nothing for me,
Absolutely love ur dedicated work & those close ups are fabulous 😊 naming these babies; considering bee hives are hard working girls (mostly) & their Queens are imperative to keeping them functional & productive, maybe u should name them Victoria, Elizabeth & Catherine, they were all famous Queens 🐝🐝🐝 ❤
Good job and super interesting story of the saved hives, I'll be looking forward to many future updates. I'm think as these have a story already may continue for many chapters yet. Maybe (Goldilocks and the 3 Bees B1,B2,B3). Keep up the good work and i enjoy your video updates
Your uncapped pupae in the last hive are a sign of trouble. The bees will cap larvae. We shouldn't see them in the pupae stage since they don't emerge again until they're fully developed. Also, note how the uncapped brood were in groups, and to a degree, in a line. That's a sign of hive beetle larvae tunneling under the pupae. The adult bees know something is wrong so they uncap the pupae early. I like your nuc idea. That will give them less space to guard against the beetles. Very interesting to watch! Keep up the good work!
Great video. I always have awful trouble wintering in open brown stringybark forest (Bunyip, Vic), which looks very similar to your area. All I can say is feed, feed, feed.
How about names of formerly endangered animals that survived and were removed from that list. Stella - for the steller sea lion Rosa - for the Santa Rosa island fox Robin - for robbin’s cinquefoil Fen - for the fen orchid Blue - for the blue whale Scarlett - for the scarlet-chested parakeet Daisy - for the maguire daisy
Nuc (or nuke, not sure of the spelling!) - 'nuclear' - a smaller box, that can hold four frames or so. Some of his older videos have a bunch of them in, it's what beekeepers use for a very small hive that's too small for a full-size box as these are.
That first hive I would have put the foundation frame at spot #7 and pushed the nectar to #8. Last hive is a good candidate in my yard for putting over a double screen board over a stronger hive... Good attempt at brood nest but not enough bees to keep warm..
Maybe that 3rd hive just froze? The boxes were in really bad condition, it was the only one with 2 boxes and the fact that the only touched frames were in the centre of the top box as well as there being dead bees in the top sounds to me like they were looking for warmth, heat rises and all that. If you have a hive with twice the surface area and the same amount of bees, it's gonna lose more heat, colder temperatures leads to slower brood development which leads to less bees, they can't keep the whole hive warm enough any more and it just turns into a death spiral.
I really hope the middle hive pulls through!

That’s gold.

@@Teverell I understood it to be a nucleus hive.
I'm wondering if that last hive might have had a new queen and she's just started laying.
love to learn some more stuff, some terms and stuff goes over the head :D I mean I can google buuuut, im already watching ya ;P
ill keep that in mind for the next one. thanks for watching
as for naming them, could technically name them after the musketeers, but you need like a 4th rowdier younger hive ;p
Haha. That shouldn’t be hard to achieve.
hi, may be you try a top feeder. Your bags and pollen toped on the frames promote mould under the bags because the missing ventilation.
I haven’t seen any mold.
