    Oh, my, this is so expressive and sensitive and romantic that I'm almost in tears. Just amazing. But that's AOH, always superior in whatever they do.

    just one more comment: my god, is that fabulous modulation really DOWN a half step, from C# to C???

    Where's the melody?

    • @airhead1118
      @airhead1118 Год назад

      In barbershop, the melody is in the lead part. It's the second line from the top! (Tenor, Lead, Baritone, Bass are the voice parts in descending order)

      @@airhead1118 I still can't hear the melody. It's a beautiful tune and they buried the melody under a lot of distracting harmony. If the melody is the 'second line from the top' they should have emphasized it rather than hide it. It's doubtful that anyone who doesn't already know the melody would be able to discern it.

      @@johnjdevlin2610 I think you just have to get used to it! Barbershop is chords, and it's pretty funky not hearing the melody at the top, but if you listen to the style more, it becomes much easier to discern. It is a bit hard I admit, but that just means they're really good at what they do :)

      @@airhead1118 I appreciate your reply but I think I'll stick with solo singers or choir renditions. As a group, when a choir sings the harmonies usually underscore and support the melody rather than muddle it. It's all a matter of taste, I suppose. Thanks anyway.

      @@johnjdevlin2610 That’s fair enough! Though if you ever do want to give barbershop another shot, I’d suggest starting with quartet singing (depends on what genre you like to listen to, but Vocal Spectrum and Instant Classic are always great starting places); the melody is definitely easier to pick out there. I’m in a choir as well, and I love choral music, but to me barbershop contains a special magic in that everyone is having so much fun singing with their friends, and it’s such a fun and close community. Sorry for the rant, but thank you for being an open-minded person and I’m glad you came upon this genre anyways :D
