    I really like the nylon string banjo for the gentle mellow acoustic warmth.
    And your honest voice is as always perfect. Thank you Nora for lifting my heart.
    I understand that a lot of these songs are really sad.
    But when you play and sing, it helps make me happy.

    Love the two-finger style here. One of your most under-rated features is your excellent feel for proper tempo. People who don’t play banjo will never understand how hard it is to play a right hand pattern this slowly and precisely. Gorgeous as usual.

      I agree, it’s one reason why I love Nora and Joseph Decosimo’s playing so much. Unsure why so much of the old-time community is focused on frailblasting songs at 200bpm with no mention of touch or dynamics. Playing fast is fun, but slow ballads or even dance tunes slowed down a bit are so impactful.
      I didn’t like banjo and had so many misconceptions about the instrument until I discovered Nora’s playing and traditional old-time, instead of bluegrass.
      Now I play banjo, including fretless, and spend time collecting and listening to old-time and traditional records both new and of old legends like Morgan and Lee Sexton, Roscoe Holcomb, Virgil Anderson, Clarence Ashley, Doc Watson, Dock Boggs, Pete Seeger etc.

      I agree completely. You either get people who play off beat, or play mechanical like a metronome. Blending the two is definitely an art.

    I saw she is playing at crabtree up in Maine! I saw her last year up in New Hampshire on my way to play a show at North Haven and I’ll be honest i wish i had some time off from my tour just to make the trip and see her again, hopefully that doesn’t come off as weird but she may be younger but she pushed to learn the history of banjo and to honor thos greats that. came before. Cockerham, Wade, Mike Seeger, Dock And the whole lot of them! I am so happy she is having success’s and i know she will love the venue up at Crabtree! I hope to get a chance to play a song or two with her someday! I saw her E.C. Ball Tribulations she did with JP Harris and i was floored because that has been one of my favorite go to songs for a long while! Either way! Love this video!

    I am a guitarist so I really don’t know anything about banjo, but I know that these strings sound much smoother and softer than a normal banjo. What exactly are you using? Sounds beautiful!

    • @oleyb123
      @oleyb123 2 года назад +1

      They are possibly the Aquila Nylgut Minstrel Tuning strings. They are for going down to dADF#A, though Nora is not using standard tuning here, I believe it's cADGA. They are one of the more common sets for the lower tunings.

    • @liamros3562
      @liamros3562 2 года назад +1

      Yep probably Aquila nylgut minstrel strings (7B. they're great)
      Although you can make your own low tuning set choosing appropriated gauges with classical guitar strings.

    • @liamros3562
      @liamros3562 2 года назад

      Yes probably heavy gauge for low tuning.
      Could be Aquila's Nylgut Minstrel strings, or a chosen set of classical guitar strings.
