Bertie was my great grandma she was an angel in person. I am now trying to learn her roll... I am just now learning to play to keep the family history❤️ thank you for recognizing her and helping me to learn how to play like granny.
Wow, Misha Fulton! That is just incredible! Bertie's playing is a guiding light to me personally. She is one of the banjo greats! Do you have memories of hearing her play? Thank you so much for this comment. You made my week! Best, Tom
Hi Tom, I'm thinking about ordering a banjo from Jim Hartel. I was wondering if there was a way I could ask you questions first, as I'm new to the instrument. I come from bluegrass banjo.
A great African instrument. They brought it with them when they were taken from their home and made slaves. Thank God for the black people making such a great instrument and turning us on to it.

Just found your channel and I am loving every second. Been learning 5-string banjo and these videos are so inspiring!
Glad you're enjoying the videos, James. Thanks for the comment!
Your content is exceptional. Thank you so much.
That’s a pretty dope lick. A lot of older misntrel songs I’ve seen use the fifth string in the melody too
Kyle Creed and Enoch Rutherford do the same on occasion.
