Hi Tom, I'm thinking about ordering a banjo from Jim Hartel. I was wondering if there was a way I could ask you questions first, as I'm new to the instrument. I come from bluegrass banjo.
A great African instrument. They brought it with them when they were taken from their home and made slaves. Thank God for the black people making such a great instrument and turning us on to it.

That’s a pretty dope lick. A lot of older misntrel songs I’ve seen use the fifth string in the melody too
