  • In this update video I show you how to create and convert SVG decals for use in Gran Turismo 7 since we all know how difficult the GT7 decal uploader can be when trying to make an awesome livery!
    Inkscape.org is the software I’m using to create the decals.

    As for SVGOMG find the optimised one for GT. Also set number precision at 1 , it doesn't lose any quality but will reduce the file a lot. So max file to get below 15kb is around 38kb

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  Год назад +1

      Hey thanks for your comments buddy. For the number precision I’ve found it really depends on the decal but for some you certainly can go that low (and sometimes you have to). But for other you may lose a bit of quality going that low.

    • @996rick
      @996rick Год назад +1

      Using 1 can absolutely ruin an SVG. It depends on the dimensions of the SVG. If the original node was like 987.654 and it'll now be 988 or 987.7 on an SVG that's 1000 wide then it's largely going to be OK. If the original node was 6.851233 and it'll now be 7 on an SVG that was 10 wide, it's going to shift a lot.
      Really need to experiment with 1 or 2, with 2 being the minimum in most cases.

    • @briantidey2225
      @briantidey2225 Год назад +1

      Yeah I've not had a problem with it being on 1 with 4000 decals uploaded so far , I'm pretty used to how it works , but thanks for those numbers. If thr file is say 16kb I'll run SVGOMG on 3 but I believe it depends, as you are not using the optimised SVGOMG for gt. That might make a difference

    The thing I'm most hopeful to learn - setting gradient and translucent decals, without them blacking out or becoming solid.
    I get that maybe the GT programming can't translate it though.

  • @Scoupe400
    @Scoupe400 5 месяцев назад +1

    3:52 I didn’t get a custom install window like that on the Mac.
    7:10 no idea if you’re holding a key but simply clicking isn’t grabbing the background layer or any layer. I have to use the Layers tool.
    There’s a few shortcuts you’ve done there that a newbie will have to find out themselves.

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  5 месяцев назад

      The bit at 7:10 will be highly dependent on the file you’re working with. With the ghost decal I can just click because the yellow is off in its own space but with some other decals they will be more layered and require some massaging. The layers toool too though.

    GT7 just needs to add the option to make a decal into a negative or inverse decal, like how Forza does it, so we can create liviries similar to that Jaguar you showed at the end and it will be perfect!

    • @GTJesse

    Mate, great guides. Im just learning and these are really helpful. Thank you.
    One question I can't find an answer for on any video, is a transparency issue with white text (mainly seems to be text not objects)
    So, even though the white text shows perfectly in the preview window in GT uploader, it's invisible when I go to use it. I make sure that I convert text to path first, but only way I can seem to get white text to show in a decal is to put a block like a rectangle underneath it... so it's showing thru the "hole' where the white letters are.
    Any ideas where I can look for a solution? Thanks mate.

      I know this comment is 5 months old but it’s a valid question and someone else might have the same one.
      The answer is that PNG files can’t scale infinitely like SVG files. When you scale a PNG up it will become pixelated, when you scale it down it looks a bit better, but it still doesn’t look great. PNG file sizes are also much larger than SVG file sizes so it’s much cheaper to store.

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  4 месяца назад +1

      You can just save the image to your computer and then drag and drop it to the art board. I leave the pop-up settings on default and go from there. When I'm converting decals, I almost always am starting with a JPEG. For keyboard shortcuts, there are a lot, and I've learned that there is software that will show your key strokes on the screen as you work, to make for a better learning environment, which i'll do for future tutorials. For this one, the most commonly used shortcut is CTRL+SHIFT+R, doing this after you've selected an object will snap your document to the size of the object you have selected. Beyond that, it's a lot of CTRL+C/V/X/Z for copy, paste, cut, and undo.

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  11 месяцев назад

      For text don’t forget to do object to path. For the file not showing in SVGOMG, it’s generally a pretty finicky piece of software. Can try adjusting precision and zooming in and out, but if you get the conversion from text to path correct then it should solve the problem

    Hello mate, I'm using an Android for making decals for GT7. Today when I try to upload my decal in my GT7 My Page (using chrome) it said "Your browser you are using is not supported." How do I fix this? I already checked the file type, it is .svg as the uploader wants. I also reloaded the website and cleaned my chrome cache but it still didn't work.

    • @GTJesse

      I would try to pass it through svgomg first then try to upload it after removing all metadata

    Great video dude and superb directions however the logo I want to create keeps coming out to over 50kb and I cant figure out how to trim the excess using your methods, the file size grows. If anybody else has this problem try a svg file converter instead , it is a free website and it helped me big time! so now that I got my file I just need a PS account to upload to GT7 ?

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey thanks man, which converter are you using? I tried a few a while back and had mixed results, but I wonder if they’ve since improved. I also use SVGOMG to compress SVG files but that’s a little different than converting. Also if you’re having trouble with the file getting bigger I usually recommend pasting your final, cleaned up vector to a new document and saving that. For some reason it seems like some data gets embedded in the file and can’t get rid of it without saving a new file.

    Hello, its me again 😅. I've started to do my own decals since i first watched this video (Well done video btw), and you might recall me asking something about the SVGs not loading. I decided to try the chrome effect on my decals, but every upload time the end result is just either normal colouring or just bland black, never the "chrome" effect. Any way to solve this issue?

    • @GTJesse
      @GTJesse  Месяц назад

      Hey! With the chrome effect, it’s super important that you add the gradient at the very end of your editing process. If you add the gradient then change something else then it can cause the file to not upload correctly in gt7. Also making sure to save as optimized svg is key, and if you’re still having issues, trying to pass thru svgomg before uploading could help.

    • @gtmr_karnage6427
      @gtmr_karnage6427 Месяц назад +1

      Thank you for the response. Apparently fnishing the decal with the gradient solves the issue, when i previously merged all the parts of the decal right before upload. Much appericiated!

    I have Inscape 0.92 Version and I made some very basic images, just the number 17, nothing fancy and saved it as a few types of SVG file and not one was visible on GT7. I am not sure if it is the version because GT7 talks about accepting SVG versions 1.0 and 1.1 are supported only. So is it because my Inscape version is too old? When I download a newer version of Inscape, it is in Asian Language and I have no idea to make it in English? Nevertheless, I created a very basic image, just the number 17, on the newer version, which did not work either on GT7. No idea what I'm doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.

      @@GTJesse Great News! The Version of Inkscape I had was buggy and I finally managed to find an updated Version 1.1 which works and is in English and doesn't crash. So I tested both a simple shape and also watched your video past 25-minute mark and changed the number 17 path etc. as you explained. It also worked and both are accepted onto GT7. I have a question, however. Should I adjust the DPI to 300? I understand SVG files work differently, but I noticed a DPI setting on my older version which said 72 dpi, so I thought maybe I needed to increase the dpi for better quality if I decide to increase the image in GT7? Or should I just increase the size of the image manually or font size to 150 etc. in Inscape? Will it make a difference when using it given that SVG files can tolerate increases when using them as Decals? Do you have a video that talks about the image quality of SVG files? Anyway, appreciate any help. Found you on GT7 and followed you to check out your work. Cheers from Australia.
