In 20 years of Ebay'n, the art of not letting a return (honest or not) upset me was the most useful thing I've learned. Consider it an investment in your account and your productivity to not let it evolve into a dispute, a bad feedback, or an annoying itch in your brain. Sounds easy, but if you've been there you know just how hard it is to let it go, usually.

Exactly that! Sometimes I get a genuine return, sometimes it is just a bottom feeder. Either way I consider it the cost of doing business.

Needed to hear this, just dealt with a very unpleasant buyer. Sold a Bluetooth keyboard in excellent condition. Complete in box used very seldomly, I know because I purchased it from Best Buy used it a handful of time and put it back in the box. The buyer purchased it and said that the back of the keyboard looks like it was used heavily and therefore the battery “is probably” no good. He proceeds to send me a pic of the back of the keyboard once he started the return that showed nothing, also admitted that it arrived fully charged and is fully functional. I just approved it and add them to my block list. It’s frustrating but not worth the stress

The best advice I have gotten from you is to not always take your advice.
When I started reselling I did paid shipping and accepted offers. After starting to watch your channel, I switched to offering free shipping and turned off best offer. I changed back to paid shipping after a few weeks and recently started accepting offers on most items again. I was able to get myself out of the summer slump and had my best month ever in June. I get loads of great advice from you and enjoy your channel. We each have to do what’s best for our shops. Sometimes it’s trial and error, the numbers don’t lie.

I went to an estate sale and there were heavy duty metal shelves with the locking wheels.I thought they might belong to the estate sale company but they were in the garage so I asked. They were part of the sale and sold them to me for $50.00. They just asked me to pick them up the next day after the sale was over. Plus, they were already put together. Don't be afraid to ask if you see them at an estate sale.

My favorite “unexpected find” thus far happened to me when I found a Sony CyberShot camera in a case at a local garage sale. Paid $8 for the camera. When I got home, I opened up the case again, and inside with the camera were 2 memory cards in mint condition. Sold the camera for $110 and both memory cards for $25 each.

Re: Shelving - I have been changing my storage setup into the heavy made welded wire storage shelves. I add vinyl wheels to the legs of each shelf so I can move them around easily. I buy the wheels in bulk sets on Amazon….the wheels are available for these types of shelves. Love the heavy duty adjustable shelves and highly recommend them. I buy mine used off of marketplace local to my area. A few at a time has been an affordable way for me to upgrade.

I found 25 at he bins once. My first return crushed me. Then one day I realized that with the good comes the bad. As is with most things in life. It's not the situation but how you handle it. Love the video's and believe it's an added value for anyone that wants to learn. Look at auctions for good shelving at good prices. Many business closings or offices will auction off good shelving.

The Costco metal shelves (around $90 I think) are wonderful. I also stalk Costco for the plastic shelves at $30 (easily the cheapest of anywhere I know) because they are in/out of stock quickly. I prefer plastic because they're easy to move, but I have four of the metal shelves in my storage unit and I love 'em.

    RE: Cardboard question.
I had an Ebay store and it was micro-managed by EB. I was getting bombarded with "how to sell better" or "low standards" emails. It was nerve wrecking, so I ended my store. I'm getting 250 free listings (no fees) and it controls the amount of inventory I keep. If I get a store, I would buy buy thrift all the time and then I would be over the 250 capacity and need to get a storage unit.
    Don't want to go there.

Have been watching your channel for the last few days and enjoy the content (I do listen while I package up and I just subscribed also) I almost always use best offers and when someone gives me a low ball offer, I just take off fifty cents and send them back that counter offer because I think that if there is ANY activity on your account might make the algorithm promote these items. I have had a few listings sell for the full amount to a different buyer after a back and forth offer fest from someone else. I just think the more activity on you account, the better. Weather it's sending offers, giving feedback, or just relisting some items, everything usually helps. BTW I am in St. Louis area also - Keep up the great videos & Good Selling!!

I don’t worry about returns anymore. I offer a 60 day free return policy and it’s the best decision I’ve made. It’s all about the buyer and it’s helped me succeed. Sometimes, I receive returns that I relist and sell for more than the last buyer.. so… it may actually be profitable to accept returns in some cases.

Lol. Found items. I bought estates after the sales were done for years. Got a lot of clothes in each sale. Lots of clothes, I found jewelry, 500 dollars in an envelope in the inner pocket of a jacket, 300 dollars and some guns in a desk, I found unused gift cards, I've pulled art out of a garbage can that I sold for 2000 dollars, etc, And guess what? I'm still not rich. All that paid some bills. I stopped buying estates 10 years ago and still have 5 giant storage units around my house of stuff I high-graded and need to sell on eBay. That's why I'm watching your channel. I'm getting lots of useful tips. Thanks. P
btw I would take all my truck loads of weekly stuff from estates to a local flea market. That's where the rest of my stuff went.

Imagine you have a choice of two worlds to live in. In one world, buyers are out to rip you off. Every return request is a scam. People hate you and will go out of their way to waste your time and destroy your business.
In the other world, every buyer is a decent, honest person. Sometimes mistakes and misunderstandings happen, but because you are decent too, you take responsibility and help them.
World 1: you're always unhappy, even with good customers.
World 2: you're always happy, even if you treat some swindlers as if they are good.
I chose to live in the second world.

Have you ever mysteriously lost a chunk of listings? Is there any recourse? Is there a way to avoid this happening? In January I listed over 100 lots of vintage yarn that were initially selling fast. Over the intervening 6 months, I noticed a drop in yarn sales and just figured the least popular colors/brands were what remained. In searching for a recent sale, I discovered that most of my yarn listings were no longer on eBay... including about 30 highly desirable lots. What the bleep? I have over 1000 listings, currently. Am I going to have to search bin-by-bin to ensure everything's still listed?

Not long ago I watched a video where an official eBay employee of significance said that once an item has been listed for 9 months, it should be ended and relisted unless the item is scarce enough to be seen in search results. The thought is that the item would be so low in the returned results that it likely wouldn't be seen. With this in mind, I adopted a 6-month end and relist policy. Do you have a specific listing age where you end and relist?

I find that they are rude, so now I have my items there as buy now, no more shows. How should I price my items on whatnot?

I bought a chick-fil-a employee jacket to sell. I found a chick-fil-a employee name tag in the pocket. Listed it and sold it quicker than the jacket.

I bought a wallet many years ago at an estate sale. I opened it prior to the purchase and found a business card that read: Douglas MacArthur, Chairman of the Board, Remington Rand. Made a few hundred on that! Haaa! What were the chances???

I’ve never promoted anything, but it’s a slow July. After 30 days, one listing has 17 views, no watchers. Do you think promoting this would help? The 3hr video was great!

Question: I had a buyer leave negative feedback that an item I sent didn’t work upon arrival (it was a Disney ornament NIB that played Its a Small World). It worked when I listed and sent it, however, the buyer didn’t message me about it or ask for a refund or return. Should I leave it be or reach out to them asking if they’d like a refund (not in exchange for a better review, just to right the situation?). Part of me just wants to leave it be since they didn’t reach out about it or take action beyond leaving feedback.

How do I beat the 90 day ended listing deletions? I winter in Florida for 3 months. Was not aware after 90 days they get deleted. I lost 120 listing and had to start from scratch on all of them. I will be going away again for 100 days this winter. Could I bulk over price and not get any sales. Could I go on vacation mode for 2 weeks then end listings. What is your solution?

I found a led zeppelin ticket stub in a vinyl record for a band called 10 years after, slight crease at top. It was at a small working man’s club in Birmingham Sutton Coldfield, I think I got £200. One in perfect condition has sold for £500. It was numbered and embossed too.
Also found some home made porn Polaroids in a deep purple album too…. Which was nice…..

Hey, Justin. Very informative video, as always. Thanks. There are two things that I'm still finding a bit confusing. First, I was surprised when you said that whether we relist an item manually, or do it as 4 listing and sell similar, either way it will give your item a new listing number. Or did I misunderstand what you said? The reason I'm confused is because I've heard other well-known resellers say (on RUclips) that relisting will NOT give the item a new number, even if you relist manually. Second, I allow best offer on all my items (mine are all Buy It Now), and I never put in a minimum that I'll accept. However, in the few cases where I've gotten low-ball offers, I've checked my listing and discovered that ebay has input a minimum amount! Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

Ending an item and relisting manually using the "relist" function gives the item a new eBay Item ID, just like the "sell similar" function. You can test this out on your own and see what I mean. What does not give you a new eBay item ID is when eBay automatically "relists" an item after it expires.

Hello Justin, Really enjoy the informational videos. My wife and I also resell on eBay and actually have a RUclips channel called the Reading resellers. I know shameless plug. 😄 We uploaded a couple videos for the channel. My question to you is we also enjoy international shipping where there is no problem when people want to return items, I was just wondering when an item is returned it doesn’t go back to the seller. I’ve had a couple items being returned, but never got those items. Do you know what happens to those items?

How to get Flipwise for FREE! Watch one of Justin's videos on selling small kitchen items like blender's or coffee pots or, my new favorite, Ninja blenders. Selling them in pieces vs as one. One Ninja mixer pitcher only purchased. Sold for $48 profit. Used profit to pay for flipwise therefore free flipwise. :) Thanks for the great content and the free flipwise.

How do you opt out of shipping internationally now that we are required to list a European broker contact on international sales? As far as I can tell, eBay isn’t providing this in their international shipping, and I don’t see a way of choosing not to ship to Europe.

I can't explain the process but if you google excluding shipping locations you can choose who you're willing to ship to.

Probably an amateur question here but I’m still learning how to check comps. So far I only have 72 item in my store with about 27 sold. I’ve looked up much more than those 94 items and I’ve yet to find something with an over 50% sale through rate. Looking up items in the store can get a little frustrating when you don’t know exactly what the item is. I just want to know is this common for beginners or am I doing something wrong. (Items sold divided by available = str. Or whatever 🙂

What do you do if someone goes to your feedback for the most ridiculus reasons and gives you neg feedback and you go from 100% positive to 95%. . Told her to open a return three times and send me pics. Of course nothing. How will this hurt my selling?

Try and get a feedback revision, using the business for ebay group don't call my god you will be met with a non fluent English speaking person who works out of a call center and not directly at ebay itself.

@@AlexButler-ry3hj I did talk to someone and she instructed on what I should do. Which was submit a removal of negative feedback request. It was denied. My views have dropped. Did sell one last night and listed more today so hope that turns around. Have been listing daily. Surely if anyone reads my feedback they will see it was pretty pathetic. She claimed necklace tangled with clasp on like I intentionally sent it to her that way and the color of the tanzanite was a paler blue.

If you can't get the feedback revised, try to get your positive feedback increased by purchasing items yourself, like items you'd normally buy at the grocery store. Usually sellers give positive feedback more than buyers. This would raise your 95% closer to 100%.
