This is such a smart song usage. She's the youngest and most in touch with modern culture (aka pop music) character of the whole MCU, and her new powers literally summon blinding lights
I never thought about this until I read it. Out of all of the new heroes Marvel Studios is introducing these next few years, Ms. Marvel really is the most, as you say, in touch with modern culture, and she really understands all of that.
Up until now, when they announced that Ms. Marvel was going to be the first Marvel Studios project to have a lower resting than PG-13 or TV-14, I was rather skeptical. However, putting your comment into context with what we saw in the trailer, while still being at least a little bit skeptical, I have a renewed faith that perhaps this show will be better than what I think it will be. At the end of the day, I'm not necessarily into the Marvel Studios movies and television shows for the action as much as I am in it for the actual story they directors and filmakers want to tell, and I think if it's done correctly here, we could have another Marvel Disney+ hit on our hands.

I'm glad that Marvel used Blinding Lights
I kinda like her new powers. Better off making her similar to Green Lanturn, than the Mr Fantastic + AntMan (Giantman) vibe she has in the comics... at least while both those guys are in the MCU. Plus, maybe she'll learn how to expand on her powers, by interacting with other heroes in the MCU, like acquiring the stretchiness after watching Mr Fantastic and the up-sizing by observing AntMan. Would be a cool way of reflecting that she's growing and learning through her experiences.
I think they gave her cosmic powers to match better and be able to hold her own with Captain Marvel and other MCU heroes
She did have some stretchiness in the trailer so I think they merged her og powers with some new ones

I don't like how they changed her powers and origin, but I do like the music.
It's rarely a good sign when a movie maker seriously deviates from source material.
Change in powers is probably because, when they eventually bring in the fantastic four, her powers would be identical to mr fantastic
Besides, it would look really uncanny valley, and there are too many stretching superheroes these days.
