The Difference between Berlin & the Rest of Germany

- Berlin life is very different from the rest of Germany. The lifestyle, the people, their mindsets and their values are a long way away from each other. See the difference in culture, dressing up, nightlife and general behavior.
From all German cities, Berlin is by far the most exciting one.

So, instead of seriously studying German history, great thinkers, language, this is how I'm getting acquainted with Germany - watching these videos 😂😂
Modern German culture 😉
definitely one of the finest (and lolest 😅 ) ways 2 do so! ... one reliable (mega cute, too) source, and - it's all so wirklich wahr.... 3.14 %!
Because of Germany I got low marks in history. If y'all admitted that Austrian guy into art school I would have not have a bad day cause history is the subject I hate
@@offbeatsofficial Actually, he didn't make it into art school in Vienna, capital of Austria. Greeting from a Viennese person.

Berlin is like Eastern Europe meets Amsterdam.
Not gonna lie, this would work fine for comparing the Netherlands with Amsterdam.
I feel like Holland is a country full of Berliners. At least that was my impression in Rotterdam ^^
It's as if the Deutsche don't even exist anymore. Stalin's work is complete.
Love it!
Go in every other city above 500000 inhabitans exept munich and stutagart maybe .. ist the same as in berlin
the part for bike so true , when my bike got stollen , my neighbor said to me when you lost 3 bike , than you are really Berliner

No, Berlin is communism mooching off the capitalist rest of Germany.
Than anywhere else? do u rly live in Cologne? o.O
Are you kidding ME I’m Berlin born in Germany!!!!!
For all people who are complaining about the bike part: you need a Kiezgurke. get some old bike, paint it in the most horrible way using standard wall paint, attach some "mildly useful " stuff like a beer bottle holder made from an old coke bottle and zip ties and voilà now you can leave your vehicle even on the Karl-Marx-Str without a lock :)
Yeah, you just need to make sure it doesn't look new or valuable. Paint it over in some horrible color, swap out or dirty up shiny new parts (bell, lamps, even wheels) and don't wash/wax it. Double points for the personalizations you mentioned, faded plastic flowers or stickers also seem to do the trick.
Of course this won't always save you but expensive things tend to get stolen faster, so making your good, expensive bike look like a piece of junk is a legitimate strategy.
So I guess I shouldn't clean off the birdshit on my bike? 😅
(don't live in Berlin tho)
I am from Brazil, one of the most violent places in the world. Never got my Handy stolen here 'cause I am always watching out for phone snatchers. I relaxed while visiting Germany and had the privilege of having my cellphone stolen in Berlin. Am I lucky or what?!

Is it actually true, that so many people in Berlin speak english?
@@fenom6159 actually the most people in Germany can speak English.
Every student has to learn it in school
I'm American never been in Germany. Always wanted to go to munich for Oktober-fest . I like the German language but I'm afraid of sounding stupid if I try to speak it . Maybe I shouldn't bother since many people know English. What do you think?
@@patrickanarchy-official5662
learn it
But don't expect people in Germany to speak German with you - they're always more than happy to practice and/or flex their English.
If you want to speak German with them tell them beforehand that you want to practice your German. Most will listen patiently.
@@patrickanarchy-official5662 You should absolutely not be afraid of sounding stupid, if you don't think you have an authentic accent, just be extremely stereotypically aggressive (while actually pronouncing the words correctly, of course), this is funny, and will make your mouth have the correct muscle memory for speaking German faster, since you are intentionally flexing your muscle more, you can then easily switch back to a more normal accent after a while, this is exactly what I did when starting out with German, and it worked out very well for me! I got tons of laughs and looks of disgust when speaking to my German friends.
House party in Germany without the visit of the police it wasn’t a party 😂
I lived in Frankfurt for 6 months, it was nice....but BERLIN, HERE I COME !!!!!
I honestly think I would be more comfortable in the rest of Germany. Like, Berlin sounds too wild for me.
Well, it is but I love it I could never be without it
The thing about Berlin is that you can have all this, but you don't have to. It doesn't have the typical concentrical structure of a city center that's surrounded by progressively less "city-like" parts of the city. Neighbourhood-culture is very strong in Berlin and if you live in a more quiet part you won't really see these things. I'm from a medium sized city and moved to Berlin for uni and I've found it extremely freeing because I could wear and do whatever I wanted without ever getting stared at so I think if you're young it's a great place to discover yourself. But I also think that when I have a family I'll want to live a bit outside the city again, mainly because rent is extremely high and it takes ages to get anywhere because the city is so spread out.
@@airotkiv is it really good for a college student ? I’ve heard Berliners aren’t friendly to outsiders especially young people from other parts of Germany
@@snowwhite4133 that's hard to generalize. you get all kinds of people here. sure, some locals might be annoyed by people moving into the city, especially because of skyrocketing rents and gentrification, but i've never experienced anyone being hostile towards me. as in any big city i imagine, it can be hard to make friends because experiences here are just much more short lived and there's always tons of opportunities for everyone. it obviously also depends on how good you are at socializing and if you have interests or hobbies that help meeting people. but i think it's safe to say that if you keep an open mind and you find a good crowd to hang out with, it's a great city to be a student. i for one have never felt unwelcome here.
@@snowwhite4133 You will have to be extremely "lucky" to even meet a Berliner in Berlin, so how you're treated is going to be entirely different from one person to the next. That said, the original culture is to impolite, frank, "herzig" (extremely friendly and caring in the most impolite way possible - "Schnauze mit Herz" is the original term), talkative and laissez-faire (you could run around naked with pink hair and no-one would even bat an eye - however, go around and tell people what to do and you'll be met with ... scorn ... let's call a spade a spade: verbal, or just outright, violence). So, if you can't deal with that, don't come. You'll hate it.
0:40 hahahahaha how did you put your grandma up to that?!
Ich liebe deine Videos!! Lebe jetzt in England aber mein Herz hab ich in Berlin gelassen. ☺️💛
Berlin will never let you go😄
I never did get to visit Berlin in the 90's during it's heyday when I was young. At least it's still a good place for old party people. Maybe I'll retire there and let my old freak flag fly till the day I die!
This video is hilarious and so true! I studied abroad in Baden-Würrtemberg and I was very shocked how conservative the dressing was at the clubs. When I visited Berlin, I felt welcome and it reminded me of NYC in the states.
Yeah they dress like they are going to a wedding in the south it’s sad

The difference between Berlin and the rest of Germany is that the rest of Germany actually contributes something to the country.

As a Copenhagener, the bike stealing part really hit me
There is also a very HUGE difference between East and West Berlin, to this very day. I remember when that wall came down.

Did Berlin stopped in the 90's or what ? 😂
Yeah, but only if you were born in Berlin. Every German I know, who moved to Berlin, really despised it and was completely lonely.

Oh my goodness! I live in Karlsruhe (Baden Land) and I can confirm it 🤣
I've been to a lot of parties and people don't know how to party.
They are usually serious, they tread water instead of dancing and most often they have a group of friends you won't get to dance to (especially when you are a foreigner - I'm Polish 😄 and unfortunately my German is not perfect, B2 level).
Mostly I go to 80s parties but I have been to youth parties a few times (mostly gay parties 😉)
and of course half the people with their face on the phone 🙄
I'm trying to move to Berlin. I hope people are in fact easy-going and have fun there 😄

@@80snewwavemusic-synthpostp80 Sorry, this is not always true in general. Yes, many people in Baden-Württemberg are Protestants of Free Evanglicals. Well, as a Greek, I really prefer the Berlin version. It's closer to us 😂😂😂
So Berlin is just gayer
Hilarious. I've only ever traveled and visited Southern Germany / Bavaria and until now completely ignorant to the differences but also in reflection can see how some of the regional towns are more conservative (than Australia in any case!). Super funny!
So basically Berlin is just crazy and kinda like New York but surreal one
And much cheaper and less gentrified. Basically Berlin is the way New York used to be.
The bike thing is true of Manchester as well, funnily enough. I found it hilarious when I moved here how often you'd just see the bike frame chained up to a bike post and all of the other parts had been removed. No idea why someone would want all the parts of the bike but not the bike itself, but I wish I could see the person's face when they come to collect their bike and it's just a frame
Berlin seems like a fun place to be
3:33 this happened with me (in Delhi, India), A german client from the embassy had an appointment to meet me in my office and came 15 minutes early, I saw him and went out to receive him launch our meeting and he was surprised that I could meet him 15 minutes early than our appointment hahahahah ~ Rahul
The most important difference: People from Berlin have that silly idea that Berliner should be called "Pfannkuchen". Like... excuse me?
I don't live in Berlin (germany or europe either) but I already lost my bike. Does that makes me a berliner?
Ahaha the mysteriously disappearing bike thing? Same in most big cities in France. I'm 90% convinced that's why they made them foldable.
