Come on, Bretty, this was clickbait and you know it. MJR's video was nothing to do with this, and he only got hits on his video because he put Kelsey on the thumbnail. It's the only way he can get hits, these days, for someone on nearly a million (mostly dead) subs.

All good things to add to the conversation. I’ll probably do a second video and include a few of these. 👍

Quite a few places purposely don't mark prices on games as they fluctuate so much, so they just pull out their phone and look on eBay for the price.
Which is also annoying as they never check what the games actually sold for, any idiot can think their copy of Duck Hunt is worth a million dollars and stick it on eBay for that price. It'll never sell, but these sellers assume thats what they go for.

I had someone do that with an Atari 2600 cart, no idea how they came up with such a large price (probably looked at ebay)

I hate when games aren't priced. But one that really gets on my nerves was a gaming store in Gt. Yarmouth. The games were priced, but there was a sign saying "ask for prices". But when you ask, the guy checked ebay straight away.

I don’t think stores should have “mini museums” either. If you want to run a museum open a museum. It’s a store to buy things. It’s so annoying.

I always hated Gamestop policy of charging full price for a game whose case was used for display.

Saw both MetalJesus's vid a little while ago and this one and I'm 100% with ya. The story of your experience though where they had to keep looking in the back? Give me a break. I'm no store owner but it's common sense, if you're looking to sell something, make sure your customers um. KNOW YOU HAVE IT.
My #1 biggest pet peeve is definitely when nothing is priced and they have to look it up. This one situation I ran into in particular, at Capital Games in Gahanna OH (oops I said their name! tough shit) was especially ridiculous. Had the majority of their stuff unpriced, and every time I would ask how much they are asking, they did not even TRY to hide the fact that they were literally looking it up on Ebay right there in front of me and then marking up the price 30-50%. I'm surprised they're even in business.

The worst thing that happened to me was when I first started collecting, I was buying a game which was complete in box for what I though was a good price for it. I take it up to the counter, they take out the loose game and sell it to me for what it would cost complete because apparently the box and manual were for display only.

A few months ago I was looking at games for sale at a bookstore near me and there was a copy of Ogre Battle 64 which was behind a glass case separate from the other Nintendo 64 games. I could not see the price because there was no sticker on it which most of the other games had.

Of course, this does not count the chain similar to the one you described which operated like that - cases for display not for game sale.

I had a thing recently where I was in this retro game store and I picked up a game off the shelf that was priced at $20.When I got up to the counter, some dweeby cashier (couldn't have been older than 18-20) tried to pull a bait and switch and said "Sorry, my guy. That game is worth $47 according to our list."

First point is because making a sign that says "Display only, not for sale" and keeping it behind a glass case falls under the category of 'work' and apparently the Beverly Hills Brat has inspired many retro gaming store owners.

Totally agree with you on this - I've seen several recent videos here in the UK looking at stores, and they all had special/collector's items on display that were not labelled as NOT FOR SALE. It would frustrate and upset me too.

There was a local store that was like that for me, where they had some stuff behind the counter, they would just not sell it all, because it was meant to be decorative and what not. However, I did be friend the owner of that store and they ended up selling me a jvc X’eye that was among that stuff.

Great video and all very true! It's funny how so many retro game stores all do the same cringe things! I'll never forget about 10 years ago walking into a retro game store in Rochester NY, the dude would look up every game on ebay to get the pricing to quote from. He then says how all the games in one section were all lower cost games and he didnt both pricing from that shelve. he literally had a NES Bonks adventure (loose) in that section for $25. of course i bought it. just wild

  • @hellokittybot7032

Retro games are collectibles who's prices fluctuate every day. EVERY video game store should price games when brought to the register, PERIOD. It makes ZERO sense to keep outdated prices on games when the price fluctuates EVERY DAY. Maybe when Pink Gorilla has as many games on hand as my store does, she'll understand that you are LOSING MONEY by pricing games in advance. I don't have the time to recheck the prices on over 500,000 used games every week to keep up with the fluctuations. Think about that before complaining that a store looks up a price for you.
