Ok why were castings so much more diverse in the 90s than in the 2000s? What happened?
Because the attention was more on the models in the late 80s and the 90s (the supermodels era). The designers want it to be about them and their creations. So, they started to hire only alike White models.
This diversity is still a remnant of the 80s, even here it is far less diverse than in the previous years. Notice the lack of Asian models. Saint Laurent and Miyake always had amazing castings. The emergence of the supermodels coincided with the disappearance of diversity. Yasmeen Ghauri was the absolute best model in the 90s but never got the recognition like the Big Five.
The fashion industry for all its pretense is probably one of the least progressive industries. The lack of diversity and sexual abuse is well documented.
Very boring collection. Forgettable. Enough to put you to sleep. Blah
