The laser fight I would have been cool, but Gerald getting stabbed in the butt with the quill and flying into the electrical field is 100x funnier than him just getting dropped with Eggman referencing the soap opera.

All of his eccentricities were only to manipulate Eggman to get him on his side. And at his core, he's still a grieving, nihilistic, brilliant psychopath who condems all of humanity for the death of his daughter. And Jim Carrey portrays that well. Just look at the Maria flashback and his "You're no Maria." speech. The issue is not the acting. The issue is that HE KEEPS doing gags and goofs even when he's dropped his act and revealed his plan to Ivo. You can not tell me that the Gerald that is spanking Eggman with a giant nano-tech hand is the same one from fifteen minutes ago who said he would "Burn it all down." And then, his death is treated like a joke. And that's a big ass problem both for the movie because it creates massive tonal whiplash and because it is a such a disrespect to Gerald's character. Might I remind you, game Gerald's most well known moment is his execution via firing squad. You can not just cherrypick what aspects of a character you want to remain consistent in your adaptation, and then throw them into a wildly different context, and just expect it to work. It's just inconsistent, and it honestly brings down the movie significantly. Both because of how it impacts the pace and tone of the final battle and because Gerald is one of my favorite characters in the series.
I love how they made Tom and Maddie nerdier in these, making action movie voices, stealth poses, even Maddie ripping the overalls off and screaming LETS GOOOOO

Its like some executive came in and said you can have this or the end Sonic v Shadow super fight. And while I would have loved it all I cant see a world where we DIDN'T get that end super fight.

Many of the changes concerning Sonic I think are actually good. Sonics lesson in the movie is that he isn't a good team player. For example in the final movie Tails and Knuckles suggest that Sonic and Eggman work together not Sonic. In London Sonic is impatient and almost gets killed until Tails saves him. The Sonic and Shadow chase being cut I also think is better, because in the final movie Shadow is never the instigator of a fight. Someone always attacks him first. Shadow being so bloodthirsty makes his turn to hero even more sudden. I do think though they should have left the spy movie editing in the GUN heist. Also Ivo vs Tails hacking would have given Tails more time to shine. The Gerald vs Ivo fight however I think the Storyboard is better.
I'm being so serious when I saw we need a Director's cut of this movie. It's so frustrating how the only major issues I have with the film seem to come from corporate decisions. IE, badly paced final fight, scenes that go by a little too fast, and Gerald's death. Legitimately, All I want is for us to get the scene with Stone carrying Eggman, a small extension of the heist scene like the animatic (hell all you really need to do to give Shadow a good motive is have him see Sonic running to the GUN base and say something like "The mission has been comprised!"), and an overhaul of the Robotnik fight. Do that, and I think the movie is legitimately perfect.
Ngl that scrapped version of Robotnik and Gerald’s highlights one of my biggest issues with these movies. In the second half of this video Shadow behaves more like an edgelord than the grieving and misguided boy he's actually meant to be according to SA2. Some fans commend the movie cus Shadow feelsike how he's meant to in SA2 (and even better in some areas) but the story boards of his London fight with Sonic and his behaviour in the infiltration planning scene feels on par with the likes of Boom Shadow
I would've preferred Gerald vs eggman from this storyboard .the finished product was to childish , and ridiculous Now this was badass. #14:34 Still wished that paroumunt couldve gotten this cut scene. I still think there are ways to include it so it still fits either in this movie or recycled into Movie 4.
