    The word "Shadow" is mentioned a total of 127 times throughout the video, by either Ranni or ingame character dialogue.
    Challenge completed. You just got me to watch this video twice, and im all for it.

    This is such an amazing video! Not only did I learn more about the concept of "the shadow", but seeing a tangible example like this will probably make it easier for people to understand so that they can apply it in their own lives! 100/10, will definitely go back to this video again and again ♥

    Awesome analysis! I love how all the symbolism within Shadow's story brings a lot more meaning to his actions and character. Just like Shadow, we all have parts of our being that we lock away and pretend aren't real in order to keep moving in life. But eventually Shadow had to confront his "shadow" once again and this time he couldn't ignore it. Instead of letting rage possess him, he sticked to the peace inside his heart and refused to let his soul be consumed by Black Doom. And then he went boom lmao 21:53
    It's very inspiring.
    Again, great video!

    Ranni you’ve done it again! Fun fact, your Jungian analysis most likely isn’t a stretch as Sonic Team researched Jung when creating NiGHTS into Dreams. Which btw is canon to the Sonic franchise.

    • @EpicKMetalSonic
      @EpicKMetalSonic 3 дня назад +3

      Just a question, HOW is it canon exactly????
      I know Christmas Nights had Sonic in it, but in Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2 Nights is simply a fictional character. In Casinopolis Nights Into Dreams is described as a pinball table. It’s not real. If Nights is supposed to only exist in dreams, how would they be a brand in reality?

    • @axiom6000
      @axiom6000 3 дня назад +2

      @ Those are cameos, which are supposed to be funny references. In Sonic Lost World and Sonic Shuffle NiGHTS appears as an actual character. Same with Sonic Riders. Think of Sonic and NiGHTS like Mario and DK.

    I find it to be the most beautiful part of Shadow's character, just like you said. His name. It indeed holds a deep meaning, it's a part of him (just like any name ever given to a person, honestly).
    A shadow may often be depicted as a haunting, intimidating presence in media, but it also can be a soothing, comforting one. A companion. A protector, gentle guide. Someone who is somewhere close all the time. It's what Maria considers him to be. What I consider him to be. That's why, when Shadow makes connections with others, if any, they are deep and meaningful, it shapes him and people around him. He, essentially, has a very similar place in the story as Sonic does, except his way of influencing others is a little more different, since he is learning things as he goes. I really love that about him.
    Shadow doesn't talk about it much, but he truly continues to carry on the light Maria has given him, and slowly, but surely, it starts to merge with his own. It always shines, strong and bright, in everything he does, and especially so, in his personal stories.

  • @kez1z
    @kez1z 3 дня назад +14

    One extra thing, Kazuyuki Hoshino, a veteran of Sonic Team & co-creator of Shadow stated that Black Doom was designed as a religious figure.
    And thanks to Shadow's 2005 game, we know that the Black Arms built temples on Earth to act as their Holy grounds. Temples that they use to worship their god or some higher being.
    So yes, Shadow is very much a biblically inspired character lol

    Fun fact Carl Jung was one of the first people to utilize dogs for therapeutic reasons. Recognizing how they are excellent at reading peoples emotional states better than people.
    Besides that have you ever read or watched Bocchi the Rock? If not I would think you would enjoy it for it's protagonist Hitori Gotoh. As she is being lauded as one of the most realistic depictions of Severe Social Anxiety(and Schizophrenia if you read into her hallucinations) to date.
    Perfectly illustrating how such a psyche would instinctively assume and overanalyze ALL worse case scenarios in detail, regardless of the reality of the people or situation.

    Okay Matpat
    Shadow's name acts as a Jungian pun and a subtle hint of the character's embodiment of the shadow archetype, which represents the repressed parts of the unconcious mind which are difficult to confront but necessary for personal growth. In SA2 Shadow's shadow is his buried goodness, love and the memories of Maria's kindness which have all been repressed in favor of his ego’s drive for vengeance. His past with Maria, all those feelings he buried deep down inside - that's his shadow. Sonic Adventure 2 is about Shadow's Nekyia, or descent into his psychological "underworld."
    Shadow’s connection with Maria and Amy introduces elements of the anima, Jung’s concept of the feminine inner personality within the male psyche. The anima often represents a bridge to the unconscious, guiding the individual toward personal growth, empathy, and integration. Amy not only reignites repressed memories but also repressed aspects of Shadow - she is tearing deep into his shadow and awakening his long repressed anima, destroying his persona built around revenge and vengeance. It is in fact a kind of symbolic death and rebirth, in a Jungian sense; Shadow is finally forced to confront his shadow and it is in some sense the pinnacle of his individuation process: the process of integrating different parts of the psyche to form a whole, authentic self. Shadow’s individuation is the ultimate self-realization.

    • @Ranni
      @Ranni  2 дня назад +1

      Great comment! Yeah I agree that Maria could also be viewed as Shadow’s anima. I also haven’t thought about how his desire for revenge can be a part of his persona and that Amy/Maria help Shadow confront his unconscious. Great stuff!

    If present day Shadow says her promise to Maria of the past..
    Does that mean that THIS GAME is the reason Maria gave him that promise in the first place?

    Black Doom wants Shadow to be angry in order to absorb him and complete his resurrection, so it's only logical that he would bring Shadow to Radical Highway, the point of his life where he was at his angriest and most misanthropic state. Back then controlled by Gerald, now controlled by Black Doom

    Mary and carries the same meaning associated with the Virgin Mary in Christianity.
    Was Gerald, Maria and B. DOOM really there? Only Shadow ever saw them. Rouge, Omega and Big never acknowledged B. DOOM's return.
