That's what's so great about the show. Oftentimes, Asian-Americans are seen as foreign. And on the "nice" end of the spectrum people will curiously ask where they are from, and on the mean end of the spectrum people tell them "go back to your country" even if they were born in North America. And Kim's Convenience pretty much shows a normal Canadian family, not so different from any other family. Representation is so important.
@@ArcticZombie I think that it had to be Canada to make this kind of culturally sensible show because America and UK or any europe countries with majority being Caucasian are so prejudiced that they don't know how to enjoy this. Canada had to be that country mature and open enough to enjoy it. Other countries are not ready.
Yeongseo Lee what? Are you serious? Don’t believe everything you hear in the media. I am a 47-year-old white dude and this show is awesome. I guess fresh off the boat doesn’t ring any bells? This show could’ve easily been made in America, hell I was in the season three before I realized they were in Canada.
never heard of andrea bang till i watched kims convenience.. thought that her and the entire cast was p solid in terms of acting.. alot of genuinely funny comedic moments lol
What I like about the show is that they don't try to make it just about culture, but they also don't ignore it entirely, because while I am interested in other cultures and ways of life, I know that the people in those cultures are still people, with families especially.
Ya I totally agree with u. But I think that it had to be Canada to make this kind of culturally sensible show because America and UK or any europe countries with majority being Caucasian are so prejudiced that they wouldn't enjoy this. Canada had to be that country mature and open enough to enjoy it. Other countries are not ready. I lived in UK for very long time and I had to face lots of barriers and judgements that are too general. Few were willing to see me past the asian stereotypes, curious about my true nature. I was very happy to watch this sitcom which kinda gave me a hug.
This is the most underrated show on Netflix. Probably because it was on Canadian tv for so long. I'm a white American and even I can appreciate how amazing it is. You don't need to be Asian to love it.
I absolutely adore each of the characters on this show, it's the first time, usually I like one or two characters in a show, but this one....the writing is clever, funny, and hands-down so well acted by each actor...I love it....it lifts my spirits, it's just what I needed during these hard times. Andrea Bang is absolutely fantastic!
Agreed. Love the family characters and I love the customer characters. The Dad actor in real life is an amazing guy who is very loving and professional. I've watched every episode twice and think I'll do it again
My wife is Korean, half Korean daughter. The show stays true to what immigrants go through and how they actually see the world. Love the show and iis well written.
Tom seems like he does a great job; he knows his facts, he lets the guest talk and asks the right questions at the right time. It might be a good idea, though, for people who get nervous, to do a little talking before the camera/mikes are on and if anything interesting comes up, he can broach it again.
I introduced my cousin in Nigeria to the show on Netflix and his wife is now hooked. I really enjoyed the show. I hope most of the actors and actress hit it big in the future.
I love Andrea Bang! She's a real cutie. Met her before and she's as sweet as she is cute. Cool down to earth chick. I Wish her the absolute best! Still crushing on her. She hates my impressions. Lol.
Love the show - any scene with Janet (Andrea Bang) and Appa/dad (Paul ?) is just HILARIOUS! I get excited when they both walk into a scene together. “STOP!”
i can't stress how relatable the show is and i'm not even korean. i never heard of the show, but i watch korean media (from korea) just not in an obsessive way where i'm looking for korean media left and right and my cousin who doesn't watch any korean media (even though kim's convenience is technically canadian media) told me about this show and i got SOOO hooked. my cousin and i can't stress how relatable everything is in our south asian families. it's also very realistic in general. i just watched a movie where in this one part two high school seniors were talking about where they were going to school and they literally said columbia and nyu. other shows/movies try to dramatize EVERYTHING and make characters seem so perfect with miniscule problems but this show is so raw and i love that no one is perfect or even close to perfect. and so many asians, east and south alike, can relate hahah.
I love "Kim's Convenience"! I was born to an immigrant family (Armenian and Russian Jewish) and went to undergrad in Canada, so while this doesn't map directly to me, it's got a wonderful way of being relatable to so many audiences. Similar to "One Day At A Time" (about a Cuban multi-generational household). Also, this radio interviewer is great - he's got a wonderful way of guiding the discussion.
I really like Kim’s Convienience. I laugh out loud at so many of the the situations that come up. I really hope there are more seasons because it is a great show with a great cast.
My daughter first told me about this show so my wife and I started to watch it. We became hooked. We binged on the whole series. We watched EVERY EPISODE. LOVE IT. Christy. Worcester UK xxxxx
Loved her. I admire Genuine, open individuals who still hold on to their boundaries. The interviewer was great as well. I admire him being curious, understanding and acting like a host host :)
I am a Kimbit and proud of it. Love Andrea Bang and really appreciated the easy-going interview style of Tom Power. An excellent interview on both their parts.
This interviewer is so emotionally in-tune - what a guy! And Andrea is just a cutie. Good for you for breaking out of the mold that a lot of children of immigrants struggle breaking out of due to fear of disappointing our parents who want us to have that stable income. Don't ever say you are boring - what you did and continue to do takes a lot of courage.
She is adorable! Love the show - I just started watching a few months ago, and as for her comment about people watching as a family, I just have to say that YES! I am watching with my teenage son and we both enjoy it.
I love Kim's Convenience. The social commentary is never too heavy-handed, and the use of "slow release" humor (like in Corner Gas), where you need a split second, and then... "hey, what?" is perfection. The characters are not perfect which makes them so relatable (although, Simu has the usual impossible abs of TV-land... must be special effects). Things like Kimchee's (my favorite character) need to pick on Terence... such a twist and thought provoking... Terence is not "mainstream" (which is often the root of intolerance), but he's a good person... (which is why intolerance is so limiting). The awkwardness of the office manager, Shannon. Excellent comic relief. Mr. Kim has an edge, but is ultimately a lovable character --- Yes! We all know about Korean Independence Day now. Janet's encounters with all sorts of moral dilemma that don't go away... Just like her mom, so real. Derek McGrath ... Kung Fu comedy... you never see it coming. His is the perfect delivery of a punch line that is in the white space. We all know someone like his character. I could go on and on... but fans all know what I'm talking about. Here's to many more years of the Kims.
I love Kim’s Convenience. I found it on Netflix, last Summer, and recommended it to my teenaged granddaughter. We’ve watched all 4 Seasons together, at least 4 times.
The percentages of yes gifs for Andrea is going up big time. She’s adorable. She was absolutely amazing in Kim’s Convenience. What a great show with, fantastic writing and an incredible cast.
I started watching the show with zero information beforehand but i ended up loving the show and each and every character. It is funny and relatable even if you are not an immigrant.
I have been watching it on Netflix. What a delight. It is like a kinder, gentler, Canadian version of All In The Family (Archie Bunker). I am dreading getting to the last episode of the 2 yrs on Netflix.
This is such a great show- our family just found it on Netflix and watched all 4 seasons and really loved it. The actors are wonderful - so funny and so heartfelt. The stories are so authentic and relatable and the characters are so likable. Looking forward to seasons 5 & 6!
I'm glad Netflix picked up this show, it's a very cute heart warming show that i didn't immediately warm up to but after a few episodes I've been binge watching since. I'm glad the show is popular well deserved
We hope season 5 of Kim Convenience will happen because we enjoyed the show so much. Tom Power is a good interviewer. He made Andrea at ease during the interview.
I have loved this show since the first episode (which I watched several times!!) . It's not just Korean! Love it ! Absolutely amazing written and acting!

Kim's Convenience is sooooo good. I'm not Korean, but so many characters act just like my family. It really is the perfect Canadian sitcom.

its about a korean family but many japanese, chinese, pinoy, indian, pakistani, bangladeshi etc can easily relate !! typical asian family :P

It's just about family I guess. We have different cultures and life styles. But, being a family isn't different that much.
