5 at the back with 2 defensive midfielders is being looked at like it’s Southgate suddenly going to go attacking. A leopard doesn’t change its spots, he’ll be thinking of it defensively.
Since when was it best practice to leak team tactics and formation to the press before an important game? It seems unfair that the other teams don’t do this!
@@Bert-lw1ot Our tactics aren't exactly a secret, everybody who's seen the last 4 games knows we're going to sit back and defend and hope we score then go back to sitting in our own half till we either win or concede.
I don't think the problem is Southgate at all. I think the problem is that we need a co-manager, Northgate, who can show us how we can play an attacking game. And crucially we also need an assistant manager, Stargate, who'll allow us to easily access the seemingly impenetrable northern end of the pitch. That'll sort it all out.
Watched the highlights from England vs Netherlands 1990 just now, England wasted more chances in that game than theyve created this whole Euros. Quick note, Barnes and Gascgoine looked incredible.
To be honest, after our games we played and the change in formation. "Im not looking forward to england game today," and it could be a blessing we go out today. Because we will not beat france or spain. That's not because of the players. it's just the manager and the coaches
The podcast is absolutely amazing I can't get enough. But how can you say Germany were better? At the most they were equal. They bothe had moments in the game where they were on the front foot but Spain looked great all game. Also Micah keeps saying Spain look vulnerable but they've literally conceded 1 goal all tournament and that was against Germany.
sometimes i dont get gary man, saying crap germany was better when pedri came off. dude Olmo came in and scored, controlled the game and assisted. Dude like? and micah man, germany seem more at it sometime because spain had the advantage
With Gareth in charge, England couldn’t beat Spain even if they were allowed to field 15 players. That’s because he’d put 13 of them in defensive positions. Guy is a grifter and needs to go the second this tournament is over. Just imagine someone like Klopp with this group of players.
Cant wait until he goes! Round of 16 in 2016, out in the group stage 2014, quarter final 2012, round of 16 2010, didnt even qualify 2008. And southgate has come in and weve been awful! Plus we have legends of the game playing. A 19 year old whos played half a season in the prem. Kieren trippier and kyle walker clearly in the prime of their life. Ezri konsa and marc guehi are known around the world as legends! Not like the pitiful teams of neville, rio, terry, cole, gerrard, lampard, scholes, beckham, rooney, owen. This manager is lucky that world class player like eric dier, ashely young, harry maguire, jordan henderson, dele alli, jesse lingard and sterling carried him to a semi final!
In this episode, Micah also applies emotional analysis: "Go with feelings!" Southgate's only feeling is fear, which he is scared of changes. When we are afraid of "mistakes", we start to be in a non-action state. England's team needs to have a higher level of management, ideally, an international figure that does not read any news. The pressure is high and good players know the differences between a good manager and a bad manager. The best options are Pep or Klopp.
I picked Switzerland to beat italy due to back 3, i gives you natural width and solidity. In tournament football having natural width to attack is a huge advantage when teams dont play with each other very often and dont have patterns of play etc. We are going to see a completely new team if England play a back 3
If we do get lucky and score first then expect England to defend for the rest of the match, even if we score in the first minute because that is the way Southgate likes it. Though it never works for some reason he seems to think going after a second goal is too dangerous
We do need to be bold and we do need Trent on the right (as Lineker explained). CRUCIALLY, we also need to know what to do if - shock horror - we play well and take the lead. In such a case, we must carry on with _attack being the best form of defence._ Switzerland are good but if we sneak past them as well, what chance have we got of bringing the trophy back???
Germany unlucky and hard done by due to the penalty call, I only think it's a pen due to previous calls in the tournament. Dani Olmo the difference for Spain. Havertz missed chances cost Germany for me
Love Shearer and doing commentary for him is good, have the BBC also considered using Chris Waddle as commentary for the TV too, like his radio commentary for 5 live.
Spain definitely the team of the tournament so far, the way they play they would hammer England. Love the podcast, I've been listening to just the audio, it's even better on RUclips.
Way better team yesterday Micah? It was a pretty even game in terms of play, eye test, and stats. Props to Spain for beating this host nation which was 90% in stadium. Yellows should def clear after r16. The fact two yellows in 5 games suspends you for semifinal is insane. Carvajal was already suspended for semi final but the second yellow wouldn't have happened had the ref not given Germany 2 minutes beyond allotment to tiem
Dear Southgate, In my humble opinion, the Switzerland match is likely going to be a draw either 0-0 or 1-1... so please ensure the substitutes coming later on are excellent penalty-takers, thank you! Yours sincerely, England Fan.
A few years ago, the idea of playing counter-attacking football against Switzerland would never have been mentioned! At WC 1990, the game v Holland was only the 2nd game of the tournament. We are into the 5th game of tournament, and only now is a tactical change being seriously considered. Sir Bobby Robson was more flexible and probably more knowledgeable than Gareth Southgate.
It amazes me that all the English pundits keep tipping england to win when they have spent weeks slagging of both the manager and the team. I hope Switzerland 🇨🇭 banter them

@@Bert-lw1ot Our tactics aren't exactly a secret, everybody who's seen the last 4 games knows we're going to sit back and defend and hope we score then go back to sitting in our own half till we either win or concede.
Well it's a rumor. It can create confusion for the opposite team.
@@SimBir08 makes no difference mate, why the F are you defending the press anyway?!?
Mica thx for wearing normal gear your the best mate doing good job
Love the banter here, but sadly not one mention of the Netherlands V Turkey Qrter final, which turned out to be an infinitely better & exciting game!
Love the podcast😊You should've mentioned the penalty that Germany should have been awarded though!
Watched the highlights from England vs Netherlands 1990 just now, England wasted more chances in that game than theyve created this whole Euros. Quick note, Barnes and Gascgoine looked incredible.
For 30 minutes in 1st half Spain was unstoppable. The second half of the extra time Spain was strong too.
This Podcast has been the highlight of this tournament! What a show.
Speaks volumes.
That red wine collection is depleting guys !
Micah "the balance wasnt right" Richards
It's his new default phrase.
He also borrows starting a sentence with "we talk about..." from his mate Roy Keane often.
...and for the record, most of those sentences go on to mention things that haven't been talked about
Shades indoor is a no go for podcast Come on Richard’s your no amateur now
Apart from that love you guys ✌️
To be honest, after our games we played and the change in formation. "Im not looking forward to england game today," and it could be a blessing we go out today. Because we will not beat france or spain. That's not because of the players. it's just the manager and the coaches
"Im not looking forward to england game today." should be stencilled on the side of the England team bus.
I’m really looking fwd to this game after watching this analysis 👍
Great podcast ! Truthful, fair and insightful. Also all three of you have a great sense of humour
Micah is the type to say he only had a main course when you split the bill
With Gareth in charge, England couldn’t beat Spain even if they were allowed to field 15 players. That’s because he’d put 13 of them in defensive positions. Guy is a grifter and needs to go the second this tournament is over. Just imagine someone like Klopp with this group of players.
You are giving Spain WAY too much credit.
England fans slagging off the manager and over rating their players!? This never usually happens
RT
@@posteveryside-beatsnews exactly way too much credit....we only need 8 player team to steam roll the spanairds.
Catching up with the last 2 days podcasts when another one drops. Watching 3 in a row now 😂 3rd.
Gary must feel right at home near the drinks cabinet 😅 he always sounds hung over, now I know why!
We are going to see a completely new team if England play a back 3
Ben White is the only English player coming out looking a winner, for refusing to be associated with Southgate.
No, he's not a winner.
ben white has no pride for his country. stop praising him.
The Foul on Pedri was the winner for spain because Olmo went on the pitch.
If we do get lucky and score first then expect England to defend for the rest of the match, even if we score in the first minute because that is the way Southgate likes it. Though it never works for some reason he seems to think going after a second goal is too dangerous
Great podcast but please Micah take the shades off,the eyes are everything when communicating with people😎
Stones to walker, back to stones, back to walker.
Pickford always involved in this passing nighmare - you see it in the 1st 5 or 10 min you know its going to be a shitshow
Big Meeks hiding the aftermath of the grey goose with the glasses 😂
We do need to be bold and we do need Trent on the right (as Lineker explained). CRUCIALLY, we also need to know what to do if - shock horror - we play well and take the lead.
In such a case, we must carry on with _attack being the best form of defence._
Switzerland are good but if we sneak past them as well, what chance have we got of bringing the trophy back???
its a joke spain was the better side and germany scored in the last min of the game
Germany unlucky and hard done by due to the penalty call, I only think it's a pen due to previous calls in the tournament. Dani Olmo the difference for Spain. Havertz missed chances cost Germany for me
There was an offside right before the handball
@@alvarocastroregueirothat’s wrong no line by uefa btw and if that was the case var had to intervene and given it because else it’s a pen
No offside, fullkrugs hand and arm don't count.
2 god Teams Germany and Spain.God Game.Bud bad Ref.
In my country, They say "England is a cradle of football' now i get what they mean this football makes me sleepy...
Dear Southgate,
In my humble opinion, the Switzerland match is likely going to be a draw either 0-0 or 1-1... so please ensure the substitutes coming later on are excellent penalty-takers, thank you!
Yours sincerely,
England Fan.
But don’t bring them on just before the penalties…
👀
Thanks Southgate for listening to our pleas, You're definitely an awesome guy ...go lions and bring it home 👍🏾🤝🕺

If England play france in the final, a trip to Dignitas would be more entertaining.
Can we please discuss al’s “pressure is for tyres” commentary 😂😂😂🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
i was looking forward to the formation change. but then i found out trippier will start over trent.
Gotta realise that the Ronaldo argument with Portugal is exactly the same as with Kane and England
When Englands on ITV could you all do a watch along... It would be mint
Loving the Penwins in the background😂
Automatically Shaw gives balance on the Left. That's a major step forward.
Not worried about passing. Block. Let everyone. All the talent England has , I a kiwi I wish you well
Interesting to hear the story about Italia 90 I think the words their looking for at 31.55 is Southgate's not got the bottle to make a radical change!
pick us a winner gary, jeez🤣🤣🤣 20:21
Rumour has it Southgate will be playing Colin Robinson in a football spin-off called, ‘What We Do In The Euros’.
It amazes me that all the English pundits keep tipping england to win when they have spent weeks slagging of both the manager and the team. I hope Switzerland 🇨🇭 banter them
No, they’ve been criticising the performances of both, which have not been good at all.
I actually turned the channel over to BBC as the coverage started because I knew Gary would say something
Don’t think Germany was that far superior to Spain, feel it was pretty equal all game tbh.
Germany definitely had clearer chances
