  • In this video, I show you how you can make phone calls with any landline phone that you have laying around the house from your cell phone. I showcase a Western 2500 set here. This is made possible via bluetooth and the Xlink Bluetooth Gateway. I noticed my camcorder was humming in this video for some reason. Cheap camcorder I guess.
    X-Link Bluetooth Gateway (newer one not covered in this video): www.amazon.com...
    Edit: I could not find the specific XL Gateway model that I showed in this video on Amazon. However, you can still get it on eBay. The newer model that they just released very well should follow this same setup process.

    So when you lift the receiver there is a dial tone? If so how does that happen since there is no dial tone on cell phones?

    • @saturnevan
      @saturnevan  2 месяца назад +1

      I think the dial tone is more of an indication that the phone is connected to the Xlink.

    This is good for a lot of reasons. One being that having your cell phone close to your ear long term is not good.

      I actually haven't been using the handset much but I probably will more often. My phone usually sits on the stand right next to it anyway. The satisfaction for me comes from hearing the ringer anytime I get a call and you can hear it from other areas of the house. According to FDA research, It doesn't look like there's much evidence about whether cell phone radiation harmful to us, even long term.

    when a call comes in, does your cellphone also rings alongside the old phone? Do you adjust the volume level and ring volume on the cellphone?

    • @saturnevan

      You can adjust the volume on the phone for it to ring alongside, yes.

    I really want to do this simply for the “old school” experience. Do you have to pay for any sort of landline? Like, do I have to pay for the old telephone to actually work or is it automatically connected to mobile phone?

    • @saturnevan
      @saturnevan  2 месяца назад +1

      The whole point of this setup is if you don’t have a landline but want to use your mobile phone number to make/receive calls. Follow the instructions in the video and you’ll be set.

    Great video! I'm looking for something like this to play a continual music loop through a landline. Would it work with iTunes where the telephone is acting like a speaker for the cell phone?

    • @saturnevan
      @saturnevan  6 месяцев назад +1

      For the XLINK, the short answer is no. It only makes phone calls. The cell2jack might be able to play music though.

      That’s up to you, but I’d say the Xlink is best for what it does.

    If they would make this device with a "bridge" so it would work in conjunction with actual landline telephone service, I'd definitely be in. I've read a lot of times, devices like this are meant for old people who only know how to use a regular telephone. There are some retro enthusiasts, but at that point, I say, just get an actual line via VoIP. As the song goes, "Ain't nothin' like the real thing baby, ain't nothin' like the real thing..."

    • @saturnevan
      @saturnevan  Год назад +1

      It really depends on the model. Fortunately I do have the model where it also has an input jack. Looked it up and it says it “Merges cell phones with active landline or voip” which sounds like it can be done! Other than that, yeah, probably vintage enthusiasts and older folk would link their cell phone to this, still not a bad way to go to get some use out of an old phone, though. Down the road, I’m sure I will invest in the real thing as VoIP service seems pretty cheap these days.

    How close does the x link have to be to your home phone? I want to leave it on the floor so you don't see it on my table

    • @saturnevan
      @saturnevan  7 месяцев назад

      I am assuming you mean your smart phone? In that case, place it no more than 10 feet away from the Xlink device.
