    That's a very nice video. There are not many RC examples done in Workbench. After some time, I was able to come up with a similar model (including command blocks), but it's really good to see we are on the same track!
    Keep up the good work and thank you!

      Actually, I am analysing RC structures subjected to fire, which is basically this, but extended for higher temperatures (material data, linked thermal and structural analysis, etc).
      We shall definitely stay in touch :)

    Hello all. Thank you DrDalyO for this and more great tutorials! I also had the same error as many have mentioned here. The error goes like, "Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of ... Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65." The solution is to select your concrete part and modify the mesh by doing the following: (1) right click on mesh, (2) select "method", and change the method to "multizone". Apparently SOLID65 elements should have such shape.

    Hi, and thanks for putting up your concrete modeling videos. One comment on the static structural model that you have developed: Viewers should note that the coupling connection between nodes reinforcing rods and concrete by node coupling works only because of the element sizes and placement of the rods in the concrete block. You have done it so that you have coincident nodes in the elements of the concrete block and of the rods. Users will need to ensure that they use low-order bricks so that the SOLID65 bricks can be substituted. It will take more work for the "general case" in which the concrete is carved up into a multibody part so that reinforcing bars can be placed along edges of the bodies that are the concrete. With mesh density controls along the edges that are shared between the line bodies of the reinforcing bars and the concrete blocks, it should be possible to have coincident nodes that can be coupled with reinforcing bar locations that are not quite as restrictive. I am impressed with how smoothly and quickly you are able to present. Nice piece of work!

    DrDalyO, I had previously tried out this tutorial during my PhD, but I was using APDL. I can provide some comments here, but I also have questions. 1) Your concrete stress-strain graph for concrete plateaus at peak strength but the real graph for concrete shows strain softening. As I know, v12 - v14 cannot model strain softening and I think that's why you had used the plateau here. Is the only workaround for this is to use Explicit Analysis? 2) Why was strain softening able to be modelled in v10 and earlier? Were v10 and earlier using a different solver or was that an ANSYS coding error? 3) What are the limitations in Workbench (WB) that requires one to revert back to using (parts of) APDL on certain situations? 4) Wasn't WB supposed to replaced APDL, so why do those limitations still exist in v18? Thanks.

    Thankyou Dr Dalyo for the well explained tutorial, although when I tried to replicate the things some errors are appearing like- "one or more bodies may be underconstrained and experiencing rigid body motion. Weak springs have been added to attain a solution." Please tell me if you have any idea about how to overcome such error. Thanks

    Thank you Dr.Dalyo very much for the video. I used the geometry file from your last video since it includes shear reinforcement in it. I changed the APDL code for rebar by changing the radius of the rebar appropriately. But I get an error,"Node 1578 belongs to element 124. The CEINTF operation will not consider this node/element combination" and this error continues to the rest of the nodes. Can you please help me ? Should I change the APDL code elsewhere or if else where should I ? Would be much appreciated if you could help me ?

    • @drdalyo
      @drdalyo  8 лет назад

      +Sivaraman Kiran It might be because the mesh nodes do not line up nicely with the rebar. try to space the rebar evenly, so when you go to create a mesh, the element size will be a multiple of the rebar spacing so the nodes will line up. if the rebar nodes and the concrete mesh nodes are not close, you might get errors.

    Hey, I found your video really useful and helpful, but I was wondering if in the current ansys version there is a new way to introduce the interaction between the concrete and the steel, since there has been a lot of changes in the software since 2016, or if we still need to input a command. Im doing my college final project on ansys with a concrete beam, but im having a hard time with the interaction between the two materials.

      Hi Bianca! Thanks for watching. To my knowledge I do not think they added any new features on this since then. I know its a bit of a pain but I believe using commands is still the best way.
