The magic of the original Partridge family and the incredible atmosphere of the 70s could never be matched. And, there is only one superstar David Cassidy. 💖
It was fun watching this American Idol-style talent show, but I knew that the new Partridge Family TV series would not last. It just wouldn't be the same with different actors and being set in the 21st century. They did it right the first time in the early 70's.
"Kelly Hughart" It was interesting in the way the family was "updated " so that they are practically a punk band (at least in appearance) rather than a 1970s "soft pop" family. However I think this "Partridge Family search" was done sometime in the mid to late 1990s. I don't think that the internet existed yet, not as it is known now in 2019 ( as of this writing). So the "futuristic" element has even become outdated . BTW the new "Tracy" in this video is far more sophisticated and is very much like a teen than the demure obscure original "Tracy" of the original Partridge Family. The new "Shirley" is way too hip and you cannot think of her as being the mother of the rest of the band members. "Keith" just does not cut the mustard. It has nothing to do with his talent. It is just that David Cassidy as Keith was something that cannot be duplicated or improved upon. The new "Danny" has a certain rock and roll enthusiasm as he plays his guitar that the original "Danny" did not have but he too seems more mature, like he about 17 years old. In the original Partridge Family, "Danny" only got as old as about 14 before the series was cancelled. I must admit I only skimmed through the video and some other time I will look at it for details, but it seems that "Lori" is depicted as playing a guitar also. If so, the original "Lori" was a keyboardist, but it would be a nice twist to also depict her as being adept at the guitar. "Chris" seems mostly obscure, even more than "Tracy" but of course, in the original TV series none was more obscure than "Tracy." I think that "Tracy" should be depicted as also playing drums and sometimes trading with "Chris" so that he sometimes plays the tambourine. But ultimately there is a reason why "The New Partridge Family" never took off. Even considering the fact that when there was the search for "The New Partridge Family," it had been decades since the original series made it big on TV and there had already been some 2 generations removed from being alive when the original series aired, most second or third generation fans probably could not think of the Partridge Family in any other way than the 1970s version. Mainly the only exception would be if there were young people who had never seen the original version or were not so familiar with it so as to find the New Partridge Family an original and exciting concept. And remember, years further back (I think the mid to late 1980s) the same "experiment" had been done with "The Monkees." A lot of young male musicians and actors were auditioned so as to become the new "Pre-fab four." And after the actors were selected, there was a TV series featuring the "New Monkees" but it did not take off. I think it was cancelled after no more than a season. I remember even the teen magazines such as '16" and "Tiger Beat" stating on their front pages that polls were taken of readers as to whether they prefer the "New Monkees" or the original "Monkees" and the original Monkees won by a majority of votes if not a landslide. This means that readers of teen magazines in the 1980s , who were not alive when the original Monkees aired, second generation fans, still preferred the real McCoys. Interesting.

"Danny Lee" Yes, trying it again with a more modern twist just seemed futile. Of course I would say that it was fun in a certain way, but it cannot be expected to be what the original TV series with the original cast was. True, it worked so well because the time was right for it in the 1970s. I have heard the same of the Beatles. If a band like them came around anytime after the 1960s, maybe up to the mid 1970s, then they would not have become the cultural iconic sensation they eventually went on to become. Of course that is a very ironic and "What-if?" type of element. If the original Beatles had not come around in the mid 1960s, then some other band would have (maybe). Then what could have happened next was that the Beatles could have been considered less known but more talented, or they could be considered only duplicates of what has already been done. Of course maybe no other band would have come about to do what the Beatles did. Then it would be unlikely that the Beatles would have become as much a sensation if they began in the mid 1970s but that would also have to mean that there would have automatically been some lull in the music scene from the mid 60s to the mid 70s and other musicians such as The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, etc, also did not impact the music scene. Otherwise it could mean that the Beatles would have made it big later than the mid 1960s and this is not considering that they would have been in their 30s in the 1970s. But also it would mean that a different generation of teens would have had to be ready for it. Somehow time and place was organic.
You couldnt pay a million dollars to watch this show .No body but nobody could replace the original Mr David Cassidy ,he was perfection and so gorgeous and his voice was breathtakingly beautiful and sultry and Shirley Jones is a beautiful Lady

Did anyone notice how david changed his vocal style after the first season. The best I can describe is a loud wispher. Too breathy. They never matched the first two albums for quality either. not a bad track amoungst them, unless you include ' baby, I love love alove you. '

Shirley Jones still gorgeous! Of course David (RIP) was the big breakout teen idol and a super talent. But Shirley was the true star of the show. She was wonderful in the part. #1 tv mom of all time!
IMPOSSIBLE!! no one can just re enact the utter MAGIC that the 1970's were....it was in every way MESMERIZING , INSPIRING , a FAIRY TALE of an ERA that probably will never be seen again , at least until newer generations learn to love one another....people need to learn to DREAM again no matter what life throw's their way....the UNIVERSE is a big DREAM were SPIRITS act out in the THEATER of the WONDERFUL INCREDIBLE FANTASTIC BREATHTAKING LIFE ! *

Diane Martin The new Partridge Family had Emma Stone playing Laurie, like everyone else is saying it didn't last long. I never found out if David sang TV songs when he was on his own. I remember David feeling guilty for years when that 14 year old girl died at his concert, they said she died from a heart attack because she was so excited. What an awful idea. Just not feeling it. I grew up during the original run of the Partrigde Family. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but even so, some shows just can't be redone. The essence of the 70s is what made it the phenomenon it was. ✌😁
Plus they threw in a real teen idol who could really sing his butt off! (Still grieving.) Plus a bona fide popular Academy Award winner as mom! And the chemistry and natural comedic timing of ALL the cast. But you're right. The early 70's made ALL the difference.✌️☮️🙂
