Walker Canyon Poppy Super Bloom in Southern California

- Walker Canyon in Lake Elsinore has become a huge tourist destination over the last few weeks with the amazing super bloom that is currently happening. I went to check it out and document the event a few days ago and it was pretty incredible to see but you need to be prepared and patient for the lack of parking and tons of traffic. Also, if you visit, make sure you are respectful to the area and to the people who live near Walker Canyon who are trying to get back to their houses and places of business during this busy event. Lastly, the city has opened and closed this area a few times already so if you are planning to go be sure to check their Instagram where they post updates on the current status and get there early to avoid the crowds. All that being said, this is an amazing super bloom and one of the best I have ever seen in California.

Spring 1999. After a wet winter and early Spring driving through Monterey and Big Sur, never forget, trillions of wild flowers everywhere. Every imaginable color as far as you could see. Was glad to have shared that with my Mom. Miss you...
I was there Tuesday, 7am and it was so nice and peaceful, just hiking up and just being in awe- lots of purple Chia and California Bluebells to break up the orange. Also wild Mustard plant and Popcorn plants to contribute a little white/yellow in the back. It’s truly an experience to see this. Thank you for reminding your viewers how not to act when visiting.
Good to know the names of the flowers, I just called them the purple and yellow ones haha
I thought about going, but I heard on the radio about the big crowds. And oh boy, it does look very busy. I can only imagine how it is on the weekends. Still worth visiting, I think.... Thank you for sharing Josh 😊
Yea, it is crazy busy for sure, which is why I wanted to put this video up to share what it looked like for people that didn't want to fight the crowds.
It is now closed.
beautiful poppy flowers and mountains!!! 🌸🌸
It was pretty incredible to see.
Reall appreciate your videos wife and I are leaving Friday for our 10 day Cali road trip and you helped us pick a lot of the places we’re going!!
So awesome, let me know how it goes and what your favorite spots are!
Diamond Valley Lake looks so nice during the bloom as well.
I really wanted to thank you for all your amazing videos, they have really helped us on our current trip. We are currently in Temecula and will be headed this way tomorrow before we have a few days in Huntington Beach and then onto LA. We had an amazing time in Joshua Tree thanks to your suggestions. From there we went to the Grand Canyon South Rim, Vegas and San Diego. We have a suggestion for another video for you- Cabrillo National Monument. We really enjoyed the history, views and pretty easy 2.5 mile trail hike here. It would look great on your channel when you next visit San Diego. Amelia and Sarah
We drove by there on the way from San Diego to Upland, to visit my husband’s family two weekends ago. Gorgeous! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger bloom!
It was the biggest bloom I have seen as well
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I saw it because I'm living very close :) it's so beautiful !!!
That was gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
No problem, thanks for the comment!
While I live out of state now, I got to see these super blooms a few times up in Gorman, CA years ago, it really is something to see. And yes, PLEASE stay on trail.
Agreed, it is something special to see!
incredible sight i love it 🌷👍
I went there with my wife and kids. It's very beautiful ! But traffic is crazy, no parking anywhere and its packed with people taking pics. We parked on the side of the 15 freeway and took quick pics and left. Just then the chp showed up and started telling everyone to move their cars. Otherwise it would be towed . We all had 5 min to move the cars. Lol. I'm glad you made this video . Because alot of people won't go due to traffic or the crowds. Others because it's far. But thanks for filming this.
The area is totally nuts with all the crowds for sure! I was hoping this video would at least show the event to people so they could see it if they don't get a chance to go.
A super bloom is happening here in Arizona too. Its beautiful! I went to Anza Borrego & Chino Hills for the super bloom of 2017. Its definitely something everyone should experience at least once.
I bet the desert bloom would be pretty awesome there!
I am sure somehow people would find a way to ruin it.
@@californiathroughmylens I did an overnight backpack with some online friends in Anza-Borrego back in 2010. It was pretty amazing to see green grass in the desert, as well as all the blooming cactus. We hiked down to Cougar Canyon (I think), in the morning before hiking out, and found a Native American mortar site (with what looked like a small pottery shard). There was a nice waterfall there, also.
I finally beat you to a location by 4 days!!! Temecula, so Lake Elsinore is close by. I heard that the crowds are so big Lake Elsinore is curbing attendance. As always love your content.
That's awesome! How was your experience there?
So happy you came, we are just 15 mins away.
That's awesome, how has the traffic been? Pretty bad?
Wonderful!!!! Thank you.
I was hoping you would do one of these, hopefully more. Thanks for another awesome video!
No problem!
This is honestly one of the best parts of spring in California. The spring bloom of poppies is so beautiful, especially when driving into Cali, from the backside of Riversides hill, on the 10. Great video as usual!
It is pretty amazing to see for sure! I am not ready for summer as spring and winter have been so awesome this year
@@californiathroughmylens Lol I'm not ready for summer either! It's going to be a real scorcher, especially here in Arizona. I wish it could just stay spring, and fall here, all year long.
👌🏽😎Beautiful landscape!
Beautiful! I hope I can go soon
Another good info for me to prepare Cali road trip in July, I should consider arriving earlier to make a safe parking spot, thanks for spring trip video to this Mt.
By July bloom will be over...
@@johnkelly7757 Oh no... I have no time to go over there now from Michigan...
Yea, in July this will unfortunately not be there anymore but there are lots of other great spots to explore at least!
Nice that you got to see it! We were in California 2 weeks ago and did not have that on our itinerary. LOVE that you ask for patience for the volunteers! Thank you so much for sharing this. Well done! All we had was rain during our time. Even saw the floods in Death Valley this time. Thanks for asking people to leave no trace! That's AWESOME!
Wow, yea we had a ton of rain this year and it sounds like you were here during most of it. How was seeing Death Valley with water though? I have always wanted to see water in the Badwater area.
It made the trip harder because all of the roads were closed/washed out. HA! Had to drive a BUNCH of extra miles. Did finally get there for sunset at Zabriski point! Put out a video with the experience as part of our road trip video (if you are interested). Thanks for your reply.
This is my DREAM EPISODE!
Haha I am surprised you don't live there!
Very nice video. Reminds me of the poppy state preserve in the Antelope Valley where I grew up.
I have only been there once, hoping to go again this year!
Wow! I’m on my way! Thanks 💞
Did you get a chance to see it?
Wow! So gorgeous - am hoping to have time to head over to the Carrizo Plain soon and see the flowers there. Crazy amount of people so thanks for the reminder about staying on the trail!!
So awesome, I want to go to Carrizo Plains as well. Let me know how it is!
Im heading out there too!!!! Hope to see you there!!!!
@@californiathroughmylens I went in 2010... Much larger area, with many more colors. Lots of places to explore, also. I think if you research you should be able to find bloom alerts online. Typically March-May, I believe... and the stars have to align to get all the right factors in place.
That is a awesome looking super, hold on I have to sneeze, bloom. Thanks for the video.
haha yep I had my Flonase to get me through!
Flower power! 💪 The place looks like its right out of a dream!
Heard access was cordoned off due to massive crowds
It is open again but there are massive crowds for sure.
Very nice! Great tips, education and of course flowers!
Why thank you sir.
I went on a Monday morning and it was lovely :) got there around 9, but by the time I was leaving at 1130 it was packed!
I'm sure! At least you got to see it and leave before it was packed.
In Illinois it's kinda like that in July, green cornfields as far as the eye can see.
Nice! If only there were a few mountains right?
You got there! Congrats!
Great video, thanks! We were there last weekend. Pictures don't do it justice. Unfortunately, due to too many knuckleheads, they've closed the canyon.
I attempted to go yesterday, the Lake exit was closed (off the 15 southbound). There were throngs of people parked as far as the eye could see along the hillside. Bummer.
Bummer, this video was from yesterday but it was in the morning so they must have closed it later in the afternoon.
❤️❤️
Gorgeous ❤️❤️. Where is this?
It's in the town of Lake Elsinore
Close to where I’m from, Hemet. My mom lives in Menifee not too far away. I’m an army wife living in El Paso Tx. Thus makes me so homesick. Beautiful home sweet home❤️. Makes me miss Cali so much !
I tried to visit yesterday to do a photo shoot, the on and off ramps were closed off!
Oh crazy, this was from yesterday but in the morning
@@californiathroughmylens I missed you by a couple of hours
Oh wow! We were so close to bumping into you, one of these days...
When did you go? Yesterday?
California Through My Lens we went last Friday.. And about two weeks before we were just at Joshua Tree shortly after you posted your video about it snowing there!
The sea of orange you see is the Golden Poppy, the State Flower of California. And as you stated in your video people PLEASE stay on the trail! It not only protects the wildflowers but it also protects YOU! There are rattlesnakes in the area and springtime is when they emerge from their dens.
Don't it make ya proud to be a Californian!
DANG!!!
Thank you for this video! I didn't get to go before they shit it down. Morons who were picking flowers and sitting on top of flowers for Instagram shots ruined it for all!
It is open again but I am not sure how long. Check the Lake Elsinore city Instagram for updates.
California Through My Lens oh ok! Well hopefully people don't continue crushing the flowers 😔
Thanks for this video. I've been driving through Lake Elsinore along the 15 for the past 2 weeks and I wanted to stop here last weekend but I got sick. Are drones prohibited on the trail?
If you can go on a weekday it will be a lot less busy then the weekends. I am not sure what the regulations are for drones, sorry about that.
At the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserves, drones are prohibited.
It looks good but busy.. anyway I'll give it a visit! Is it still good time to go?
This video is from yesterday so it is still beautiful
@@californiathroughmylens thanks for the quick reply!
Maybe you want to try seeing the super bloom on the Skull Canyon ziplines.
that's right off lake st yes you know there are red diamond backs in that area (rattle snakes) I used to go shooting further back until the cops would chase you out of there
Anything on Riverside and/or the Inland Empire?
They really closed it?
Sometimes it’s better not to go to the most popular places in order to protect them. There are other places to see the super bloom everyone. And remember, wildflower season in CA goes for months. HH
What is the earliest you can get in?
I know many people have been going at sunrise but the poppies don't really open as much till the sun starts shining on them
Yeah it’s cool and all but ever since they bloomed I’ve been late to work every day even when I leave early. Sucks living only 2 minutes away from the attraction. Nice to see every morning tho.
I thought it closed down due to the crowds :(
It closed for a day then it opened again. City of Lake Elsinore Instagram posts updates.
Ya know.....................................................................there's so many other places in Southern California to see the wildflowers, there's no way I'm heading out there to deal with those crowds. PLUS, most people who are not used to being in the outdoors don't know how to conduct themselves while out there. People sit in the flowers, trample flowers to get to that "perfect" picture spot, and also pick the flowers.
We were just at Carrizo Plains, not very many flowers not worth the time
Those bloom in late March and early April
You know I got to say with all this rain we’ve had California looks pretty nice not like the Golden State were known for
Very true!
Just becareful the rattle snakes r out n full swing with the warm weather ..
This bloom happens every year, causing traffic in the exact same spot. We didn't need another person posting the bloom online. Just another person causing traffic & adding to the congestion. Thanks a lot.
Yo 👋
Without the fires, there would be no flowers....
Too bad people cant abide by the rules and be respectful.
The city of the Lake Elsinore is running by a bunch of ephebophilia, that’s why they closed the area in 2023
