- i demonstrate how to self check-in for a US domestic flight carting no additional bags but your carry-on only; traveling with no children, and not being part of the military. Btw. If you purchase tickets through a secondary website like Expedia or Kayak, it is a super good idea to enter the booking reference into the actual airlines website or app after booking. This allows you to do much better things like check in, boarding pass, build miles, etc. Coming from someone who’s flown 150000 miles collectively.

LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it.
Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile...
These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon.
Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees.
Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers.
Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end.
If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape.
You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away.
Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case.
Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle.

This knot does not loosen.
Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie.
Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
No personal name necessary.
No address necessary on the ribbon.
Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color.
Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece.
Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case.
If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself.
Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible.
Pleasant color combinations:
Red, white and blue
Chartreuse and purple and orange
Orange and light blue
Orange and yellow
Gray and pink
Green and yellow
Red and Green
Red and Gold
Light blue and light green and white
The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights.
Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...
To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape.
Tip #4
Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show.
Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS
4 ribbons
1 designer ribbon
colored taped handle
stencil spray paint a 2” stencil letter or number or word to the suit case surface in addition to using all the ideas here.
Stencil spray paint a letter to the top ribbon.
Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”.
Put a travel sticker on the case.
Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN
Scales may vary at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a
HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE
It is less than $15.

Thank you for this video. If I check in online prior to flight, but in some crazy events I lose my printed boarding pass and my phone dies, can I still print a new one at the kiosk?
Yes you can. As ling as you know your airline booking code.
Is your carry on bag something you have to include and pay for for being checked on this screen? And if so how much is it? Never flown before.
The answer is no. The screen will ask if you have any bags to check, or if you fly with carry on only, so you don't have to pay or declare in a way your carry on.
I'm traveling for the first time ever by plane in 2 months, so everything is going to be new for me. I know that you can check-in online 24 hours prior, but will I still need to go to a kiosk or check in counter? I'd assume so in order to get a boarding pass and tags for baggage.
That's is correct you have to go to the airlines ticket counter to check in bags. The boarding pass you will print at home if you like only if you check in online.
So question, when I am booking flights for my 2 best friends and I do I add our bags as "checked bags"? Or can I just skip that for now and check them in when I get to the airport instead?
Either way you have to get the bags to the airport and get them weighted and checked in.

So quick question this is my first flight ever…when I self check in will I have my bags checked in as well? I seen it ask how many bags you’re checking in.
When you self check in at a self kiosk at the airport once you enter the number of bags an airline staff attendant at the kiosk area has to come over, weight the bags and accept them as checked in. Make sure you take your bag tags you will get from the attendant at the end.

no it should print all
If you're traveling together under one reservation or booking code, it will print all boarding passes for every person on the reservation. If you travel on separate reservations, it will print only one reservation / booking at a time.

Say if I check in on my phone prior to getting to the airport, can I still use this to print my boarding pass even if I'm already checked in?
Yes, often the way it works you get a QR code that a ticketing kiosk can read to access your reservation and to print a paper copy of your boarding pass. Furthermore, you can use your reservation code to print a copy of boarding pass.

I used Affirm to buy my AA ticket, so with the new self checkin/mobile checkin, I won't have to show the virtual card right? Because the expiration date disappears after use.
Update: it worked and processed. Now we wait for the flight.
Got to the airport and had my flight with no issues on the card! Affirm will definitely work with AA!!!
This helps me because I bought a ticket online and do you go to the kiosk to get your boarding passes if you want to do it yourself self check in
You can print the boarding pass online or have it on your phone withe airline mobile app or go to a kiosk and get this way
Hi! By any chance, do you know if check-in for military not on orders through the kiosk allows them to get their baggage fees waived? Their website isn't as clear when it comes to free check-in luggage for military. Thank you!!!
As policies can change on a dime best advance is to call the airline directly, even more so if the website is unclear.
@@ipasfus thank you! We checked in at the regular desk and they waived our luggage fees (: so long as you show your ID. I'll check it out heading home if the kiosk allows for waived baggage fee.
Does this print only one way flights or does it print both for round trips?
If flying on the same day, meaning returning on the same day, may ask you if you want to check in for the return Fligh which I advise against. Typically, will print all boarding passes for the entire Flight in one direction.

I paid for and booked my flight but I’m not sure how or where to get a ticket? Is my itinerary my ticket? I can’t seem to find any info on Expedia or American Airlines (where I booked and who I’m flying with).
Your itinerary is not your ticket. To recognize a ticked it should have a ticket number and a booking code on it. After you book and pay for your ticket within a day if not sooner you should receive The Ticket from Expedia. Once you receive it visit the airline website and using the booking code written on the ticked cross reference your reservation. I know everyone has their own preferences but I buy my tickets from www.fligh-hunter.com check it out next time you travel
Question, I misspelled my email by accident but put in my phone number and it says I am booked for my one way flight . An I got the itinerary code . Is that all I need to print out my boarding pass when I get to the airport ?
Yes, and your ID, of course. Your email doesn't affect anything. You can pull out your reservation and enter the right email.

If you have one or more layovers per trip the kiosk will print separate boarding passes for each leg of your trip. The return trip is a separate thing.
So i ordered 5 tickets online from american airlines, how do i get my tickets pls help, I got an email and it has the ticket numbers and stuff on there, but like what do i need to do when i go to the airport, this is my first time, pls help
When you get to the airport, go to your airline ticket counter. Give them your ID and a print out of your booking confirmation. They will be able to get your tickets.
Instead of checking in online 24 hours before, may I just show up 2 hours early at the airport to get my boarding pass then?

To both of your questions the answer is Yes. You can get your boarding pass 24 hours prior to your departure. And also, you can obtain it at the kiosk.

Now trip confirmation should contain a booking code. It is alfa numerical. It also should contain your ticket number. Having these two in your confirmation it tells you you are got to go. Use the Booking number, or code to enter it into AA.com website to pull your reservation and confirm it on American Airlines website. Let me know if that helps.

Hi I order my tickets on Expedia is first time traveling do I need to use the kiosk I’m really confused ?
Expedia has to send you a confirmation email for your ticket booking containing your booking or reservation code. It's six or eight alpha numeric code. You can use this code to pull the reservation directly on the airline website you will be traveling with. With this code, you can check online or even check in bags. So if you check in bags, you have to use the kiosk or show up at a ticket counter. If you travel carry on only then check in online and don't have to use the kiosk. Be aware of any Covid restrictions or travel requirements, though.
Are they still using Curbside Check In? Also if you do the check in a kiosk do you have to pay a fee?
It's hard to say if curbside check in is still available because of Covid measures and the additional screening needed.

A boarding pass should become available 24 hours prior to your departure Flight. Once you can check in online you can have your boarding pass at the of the checking in process.

Yes, you have to add the bags if you want to check them in so you can print the bag tags

U should be able to check in online and skip the kiosk all together except if u check in bagsy. Then you have to drop checked bags at the kiosk

If you have a carry on do you just say “no thanks “ to checked bags Payment?
If you have carry on only, you have to say No Checked Bags since you are not going to be checking in any bags.

Tickets issued via Travel Agencies may have internal agency ref number along withe flight booking number. The flight booking number will have to on your ticket.

Here is the trick. If you have Real ID you can travel domestically by air using this ID. If you have Regular ID on which you see written Restricted it means this ID is not good for travel domestically and you need your passport for travel. I hope this answers your question.
Is the priority boarding option only available through the Kiosk?
Priority boarding is not limited by the kiosk in any way. If the airline gives a passenger priority boarding it may alao be written on your boarding pass. Or in most cases is based on a boarding group indicated on the boarding pass.

Bag policies depend on the destination and the booking class, generally speaking. Best is to call the airline directly.
