    I forgot to mention; Yeah, the 2 kids at the end of the short are the 2 kids from Being Pretty. The boy is even playing with his dinosaurs seen in "No Monsters". Also, that moment is where his fear of Freaks came from.
    I guess these turned out to be more connected than I intented.

    • @DeadSound
      @DeadSound  6 лет назад +196

      boawesomeness the awesome,
      The anti-gravity stuff was supposed to represent the unexplainable. It was the only way I could think of doing it without asking too many other questions. The world around the Traveller had to not make sense (without being too frustrating to the viewer) but there is nothing he can do about it and he has to accept it.
      It's my exaggerated, surreal version of this; 13:00

      Ok, I have two ideas for you and they can be summed up as A Beginning or An Ending. The Beginning would naturally the story of how the cities and the matriarchs first came to be, what happened to the world, were did everything go so wrong. The Ending would be the fall of Autodale, all the other cities have fallen everyone else is apparently dead so Autodale seams to be already on borrowed time. And you can even have people question weather it was a good thing or bad that the last totalitarian bastion should fall leaving nothing standing between the humans and the freaks.

    • @jakeshavel4686
      @jakeshavel4686 4 года назад +14

      I don’t think the cut made him into a “freak”, but rather the perception of each person to one another. People that grew up in the city “autodale” viewed him as a “freak” because they had never seen someone like him before, as they only follow the cycle of life the robots had set up. I think that he viewed others similar like him as a freak because he felt different, left out on certain parts of his life, just like the author said the character was based on himself.

    Wait... your just 22? How can you be 4 years younger than me? 😨 But well, besides that, I want to thank you for this video. Now I can see what you intended and I'm less confused. I can see what you mean with everybody is a stranger, a freak; some crule and some nice. I was just like you, when I was a kid. Growing up in germany those days as a girl who liked boysstuff was challenging! People saw and called me a freak. I was strange in there eyes with my allergics and my sickness... Your so happy for having a supportiv family by your side and not having to face everything (and/or everybody) alone like the freaks in your short.
    But as I'm thinking... when I look at my self and how it made me to the person I am today, and I'm calling myself out to be a freak... does the freaks see each other as monsters as well? Or do they see people and for that are seeing more than the normal people? Well, enough of my thinking at 2:15am in the morning. ^^ Greets from Germany

Like the freaks are both horrid mutated monsters with a kind side and just people that our protagonist sees as strange and dangerous. Both interpretations work and I like to think it's a little of both.

    I'm so pleased to be watching this in November 2020 with the COVID lockdown giving this a slightly different perspective. Loneliness is rampant, changes and fears about change. You are 24 now David, I'm 55 this week and still learning about myself. Thanks for sharing this part of your life with all your friends.

    Having everything figured out isn't all there is to wisdom. Goodness knows Uncle Iroh, from Avatar The Last Airbender didn't have everything figured out for the majority of the series. He was homeless, and barely even understood how much he needed Zuko, for the first half of the series! Yet wise he was.
    Just understand that, David.

    Thanks dude I've seen Autodale and just started making my character holding an "exceptional" mask in the middle of her face only showing an eye and the mouth. Autodale is just great. New sub.

    All those fallen cities and the dead Monarchs are one of the strangest details in the short film.
    Why are the cities in ruins? What killed the Monarchs? What was the Monarch used a cover by the traveller running from?
    The reason behind the dead Monarchs could be 1 of 3 things:
    1. Each city and its Monarch were overthrown by a revolution.
    2. A huge event caused the downfall of each city and its Monarch.
    3. Each city and its Monarch eventually died on its own.
    Anyway, I love your work, the fact that there's so much lore packed in there, makes it even more fun to watch! Keep it up!

    David, you are an amazing storyteller! Especially for one so young (I'm 46.) You've been through some shit, which you have used so wonderfully in your animations. I know this comment is a year late, and I just watched your 19 minute Autodale epic, but I sincerely hope you continue your work. It is beautiful, sad, compelling and even hopeful.

    Honestly this story is the most amazing shorts I've seen yet, i have to say the lack of any back story and the very way its controlled is what helps add to the uniqueness. Ibhope even after you make the next one you will one day come back to the awesome story you've created

    It was very unexpected and beautiful journey that I went through. "Being pretty" just catched my eye on the front page of the youtube and I was surprised by the idea of it. When it came to the "No mosters", "Children's Toys" and "Dont feed the freaks". After Ive watched all of that incredible piece of art I found all "Making of" videos. Its one of the most amazing storytelling Ive ever seen. The way that the autor spoke and showed how and WHY all these stories were created amazed me. A whole new world can be built out of the one person's imagination.
    Thank you so much for that incredible journey!

    I think what you’ve achieved with the “Autodale” serie is quite amazing! I’m looking forward to your future project! And when I hear you say you’re only 22, I think to myself : “Wow! He is so young! So gifted!” And then I remind myself that I’m about the same age as you (23) and that I just lack the confidence to open up my world to others! I guess I’m a Freak too in my own way! Well, anyway, just wanted to say that your work is very inspiring and that I’m really amazed about how deep your thinking process is!
    Makes me feel happy and less lonely! Makes me feel like I’ve found a “friend”! Merci!

    Damn, the story of your childhood really hit home for me. I wasn't ever bullied, but around the time I was 9 or 10, we started jumping from house to house quite a bit, I wasn't in any public school, and the little circle of friends I had at the time had started moving away. I spent 8 years pretty much bumming around home and dicking around online. I joined a charter school when I was 17, and I had the same experience, where I was looking for friends, and seeing freaks all around me. Eventually, I started talking around, and I met quite a few people who I first saw as freaks, and now one of them is one of my best friends.
    I thoroughly enjoyed the animation, but after hearing your story, I think I enjoy it even more.

    I never actually thought of the kind of "backstory" of this story of society ! Now that you mention it I kind of have this "realization" moment about being bullied and seeing others as freaks and the freaks also see you like that! Honestly I love your videos this need more attention :3 I am already hype for the second part :D ☆

    Man, watching your "Making of" videos, I just wish I had 1% of your drawing skill, story writing skill, software skill, your patience, commitment, and talent. I have never seen a person doing it all by himself. Hell, these works look like PROJECTS that have many people involved: story writer, animator (2D and 3D), sound recorder, editor, voice actor, etc.
    It's sad to discover your past. But, I think, there is a great thing coming out of that. You have been able to perfect the skills and talents inside you, and that's admirable.
    Please keep doing this. You're doing it great. Wish you the best!
