I 'm sure Mr.Grigory Sokolov is the most great pianist in the today's world. This finale is a original expression. I feel sense of lonliness and gentle mind.

Wow!! So beautiful, pure musicality. Last movement feels almost like it is improvised. I have always struggled to play this fast, yet playful and without alberti-bass in left hand disturbing the beautiful melodies in the right hand. This is an entire different approach, which is really inspiring. Thank you Sokolov!!

I just discovered Sokolov by pure luck a couple of days ago: this guy is amazing, so fresh and intense in his interpretation, so brilliant in his technique. The rendering of this Haydn sonata is so poetic! Thanks so much for sharing.
See if you can find his Chopin Preludes and Op 25 Etudes om Naive from aound 1990. That is an astonishing set (also includes Funeral March sonata). I think he is the greatest living pianist.
The third movement is insane, out of this world. He takes a radically different approach (he's sokolov at the end of the day) and does something magical, creating different sound textures, articulations... wow I wonder what an acceptable interpration of "vivace molto" would be tho
Sokolov has his fans.For Rameau I Can understand. For Haydn, in my opinion, he plays much too fast. Same for Bach / Siloti piece. Emil Gilels version is just heaven. Thanks for sharing
Sokolov devrait arrêter de jouer de la musique romantique ou préromantique allemande, parce que manifestement il n'y comprend rien. Il joue du Sokolov sur les notes de Haydn, mais où est Haydn ??? Même chose pour ses insupportables Schubert... Et Beethoven. Mieux vaut ne pas évoquer Mozart... Une tuerie, de la musique. Insupportable. Il est excellent dans les sonates de guerre de Prokoviev, dans Scriabine et même dans Chopin, toutes ce musiques qui supportent l'excès. Mais par pitié, qu'il cesse de penser qu'il peut jouer Haydn et les autres. Un peu d'humilité ne lui ferait pas de mal. Et cet enregistrement est en tout point, dans tous les mouvements dégoutant d'affêterie et de "regarde-moi que que c'est moi que v'là". Et je ne parle même pas du troisième mouvement, qui est une honte à toute sensibilité musicale un peu exercée. Ecoutez Brendel, et vous comprendrez ce que Haydn veut dire, et ce n'est pas la soupe que nous sert Sokolov. Le dernier concert de ce monsieur auquel j'étais invité", c'est seulement parce que j'étais invité que je ne suis pas parti au milieu, tellement Schubert était massacré. Ce n'est pas parce qu'un pianiste peut tout faire, comme Sokolov sans aucune doute, qu'il peut se permettre de faire n'importe quoi, ce qui est manifestement ici le cas.

@@markhughes7927 Cher M. Hugues, oui les opinions sont libres et la votre tout autant que la mienne. Donc je la respecte. J'ai écouté Pogorelich dans Hob XVI:19, suivant votre conseil. C'est assurément mieux que Sokolov dans Haydn. Mais j'ai le tort sans doute de penser d'une part que cette sonate n'est pas dans le "top" des sonates de Haydn, donc elle m'intéresse peu. Et même chez Pogorelich il me manque quelque chose de l'humour, de la pétillance (profonde aussi) de Haydn, dans cette sonate en tout cas, mais je vais en écouter d'autres par le grand Ivo pour me faire une idée plus juste. Quant à Sokolov, il m'ennuie dans ce répertoire. Il est beaucoup plus intéressant dans Bach et, je vais le dire manière plus claire, fabuleux dans Scriabine, Chopin ou Prokoviev: je l'ai entendu en concert dans la 7e sonate de Prokoviev et c'était extraordinaire. Je crois que tous les pianistes, même les plus talentueux - et c'est évidemment le cas de Sokolov qui est non seulement l'un des plus grands virtuoses de notre époque mais qui a un toucher exceptionnel -ne sont pas faits pour tous les répertoires. Vous qui aimez le piano, avez vous regardé la chaîne RUclips du jeune Kit Armstrong "Musique ma patrie" ?
