The special thing about our HayART festival is that the whole Lammer Valley comes together. All clubs, from young to old, kindergarten to pensioners, all help. We are here at home, on a farm where everyone works. We use the midsummer hay here and not the first cut, because this hay is more colour-intensive and darker and fits very well with the hay figures. For around three clubs, I helped for 70 to 80 hours. It's a lot of work, but it's also fun. Making such a figure is really a lot of work. It is best not to look too closely at your watch and simply work on it with love, even with the small figures you need 200 working hours, which then increases up to 500 and 600 hours. I created the craftsmen's market so that people can still have a lot to see after the parade. We have craftsmen here who work on the stands and show off their handicrafts. So that visitors can see how the handicraft works. We have pretty much only old, down-to-earth craftsmen, as is customary with us. We even have a brush binder here and a rake maker, a barley fence maker, leather trousers maker, hat-maker, quill embroiderer and bag maker, actually everything. Everything that is an intense handicraft, where you work on it for a long time and get something beautiful out of it.
