I spent some time on Phoenix, trying to hide my fear climbing aloft.. the crew soon spotted the give away "Elvis Leg". Great times and enough to make me go back and hand in my notice of resignation in my every day job. Thank you for this film.
Wow, that's so cool. The Phoenix is LITERALLY right behind me here in the port. That's very cool stuff, at first I didn't believe it, but what an amazing find.
There is no such thing as political correctness. It is communists party doctrine designed to bastardize the language (control the language = control the thought), separate countrymen from logic and set them, one against the other, one generation against the other and to bisect the family unit itself. Remember, never let a crisis go to waste. They used it to successfully overthrow the United States Jan 20, 2009 without firing a shot. Don't underestimate it.
Bit light on the history. Missed out the triangle of trade which includes slavery. Everything in this film is linked to slavery. Sugar, tobacco, the British navy, Liverpool.
Try AdBlock or uBlock. I personally agree with supporting content creators however recently the ad's are becoming ridiculous. 2 at the beginning of every 10 minute video and a few single, sometimes doubles during the video. Content creators are also claiming they make hardly any money on ad revenue these days anyway and a simple like is better for them. I would be happy to sit through a quick ad at the start but that as well as 3 or 4 during a short video i'm not okay with so I use ad blockers but make sure to like every video I watch. That way I fee a little less guilty about using one.
I'm enjoying the series too, but I cringe every time he refers to the subject vessels as 'boats". Maybe it's an American thing to keep in mind that "you put a boat on a ship". Also the idea that "after Trafalgar, and with Britain's Navy policing the seas, it was once again safe for commerce" night be disputed by early 19th century business owners in the US. But other than that an enjoyable series.

"Free to trade around the world..." And free to trade in racial chauvinism, military power and imperial colonialism, setting the stage for the warlike and repressive centuries to come.
I'm loving this series.

That might be the most impressive thing shown in the video. Building that beautiful ship on a beach.
Another fantastic video. Thanks Tom
Thank you Tom.

Nice video
Love old Square riggs
Cool video
This is a very nice series. One of the few by the Beeb that is both informative and teaches history that isn't distorted by political correctness.

@@cosybike Ah, yes, political correctness. must forget that, must we...
Interesting to read about the Plimsoll line, brought about by the scandal of ships sinking around the UK coast.
Haha "It's great to see these guys, wacking away!" 😂
another great video!
"Britain was exploiting 'business opportunities' all over the world." is certainly one way of puttting it ;-)
"Give me that, that's mine"
Slogan of the British Empire.
Le Phoenix est désormais sous pavillon français !
Doesn't begin until about 1:30 (ish)
(everything up until then is the usual, totally skippable, obligatory intro)
(You're welcome. 👍)
Is this the full episode? 16 minutes only? I thought the episode was 30 minutes long.
13:15 I know that cliff face :D that's my local beach
Any chance you could increase the frequency of the ads from every 3 minutes ?
I love endless adverts

As long as a nation didn’t partake in slavery their ships wouldn’t have had to worry about the Royal Navy
