This video will never expire! The quilts are wonderful, front and back! My eye doesn't really responded to the clashing or "ugly" backs, so as I begin to finish some of my tops and do my first actual quilting, I know I will be trying this, and I will love saving the $$ on backing!
Haven't made a quilt yet... just enjoying the vlogs, but I did a lot of sewing in my early days. This inspires me! ... not only for the back, but the top/front. Thank you for showing us how you do it.
😊Very unique touch by piecing the back! I’m going to do this using a panel 😮if it all works out. ❤Off center main fabric piece on backing is a perfect idea!
Great ideas as material is so expensive and this is a way to be creative and will be one of a kind backing. Thank you so much. I do piece my backs but do not use the smaller pieces and now I will start or a least try.
thank you for doing this tutorial about pieced backs. I had thought about it but being new to quilting i did not think that the unused material used on the top could be used for the back. this tutorial open the imagination and on my next quilt that i am working on i will be doing this. Great idea!
I'm a new quilter. (Just over a year). I've only made a few quilts & I have yet to just use one piece of fabric. Also I was told the backing doesn't have to match somehow. I thought they were nuts. I love that last quilt thats all over the place that became a front of a quilt
The last show quilt is how it used to be done in the old days. Whatever you had it was sewn together and stuffed and put on your bed. Shame we never had enough money to buy a camera as ours were show pieces of cobbled together quilts.
There’s a lot of good information here. That back you constructed is going to be beautiful , but the dark colors give me pause against the front which had a good deal of negative space white. I’m guessing two layers of batting?
I wondered that too... if the front of the quilt has a lot of white, do I really want parts of the backing to be dark or bright? I'm afraid it will show through. Thoughts?
As a longarmer, I’m ok with seams on the backing as my Gammill will sew through anything. However, those grain lines can cause sagging in the backing, as it’s on the table. We can’t see or control what’s happening on the back. So if pieces use multiple grain lines, give your quilter some grace. Chances are good, there will be a pleat too two, because of the sagging.

Will these pieces backs be quilted on a longarm? Are the extra seams a problem for quilting?
I guess you covered it. Thank yoi
