THE COACH
Patrick Спорт
Roger was not able to achieve the " all time " record but he was a magician and there never was and most likely never will be another with the combination of artistry, fluidity, magic , racket skills and court IQ like Roger.
He still is the goat
Edited :
When you see how difficult it is for the onehanded backhand to be competitive in modern tennis (very few in the top 100, only two in top 20, and among them Tsitsipas is struggling a lot with this shot), it also gives an interesting perspective on Roger's game. To be able to stay that good in Djokovic and Rafa era was pretty insane.
Too true. A sport has to be truly lucky to be incarnated in a person. With the Fed, tennis didn't just get lucky; it turned magical. Fed's game will forever remain the sport's gold standard.
As for the all-time record, it's been pretty clear to me for some time now. Fed is and will always remain the greatest *player* to have played the game while Djoko will remain the game's greatest _winner_ for a long time to come.
Actually he did achieve and surpass most records of his time, but it is more accurate to say he was surpassed by Nadal and Djokovic. He did handicap himself from around 2008 playing with a smaller and more outdated racket and it was only in 2014 he changed and eventually he mastered that racket only by 2017.
Nevertheless, such exquisite shot making, movement, and overall complete package and genius will never be seen again maybe.
@@alexandre.montagnac There are a lot more than 3 in the top 100, though:
Tsitsipas (5), Musetti (19), Shapovalov (24), Evans (27), Dimitrov (33), Gasquet (44), Lajovic (46), Altmaier (65), O'Connell (78), Cecchinato (83), Wawrinka (84), Eubanks (86), Thiem (96).
Roger's artistry led many people to take up tennis and then realize that it wasn't as easy as he made it look 😊
Roger is way magician of tennis!!!
I love how this guy talks about tennis. It‘s so nice to listen to it😄
My dad is a terrible tennis player, yet somehow he manages to do this every time wer play just because of how he hits the ball lol
Believe me , it is sth that all people being terrible at Tennis can do due to our lack of proper basics . I do this also and I am terrible at tennis 😂
Are you sure you mean this shot? Because there are two sidespin backhand slices, one to the left, one to the right. As a right-hander, its fairly common to hit a sidespin backhand that curves left but I think he's talking about the one that spins right here.
@@molybdaenmornell123hopp5any examples of this?
What a breakdown!
what an explanation for us who don't understand anything about techniques. I never ever realised this detail that comes naturally to federer. God given talent
I miss RF 😢
Please talk about the Roger Federer half volley backhand shot.
IF YOU CAN EXPLAIN THAT , YOU HAVE IT ! SO I HAVE IT LIKE YOU DEAR PATRIK
First time you get to see exactly how muscular and sinewy his forearm is.Not surprising when you consider the weight of his racket.
Roger might not have won grand slams more than his rivals but he was artistic among the three. You gotta admit that
I play with an older gent that does something very similar….gets me every time 😅
Perfect explanation . Evert hit a side spin forehand that bounced away from her opponent .
Roger best slice backhand? Absolutely!
Roger had a very good style of play. That slice back hand was very effective. 🤩🌟🎾👍
I think this is why he often struggled against Rafa cause his immense spin on left handed forehand could allow him to counter the sliced cross backhand
Indeed..
Funny how he shows at the end how a top spin ball rotates instead of a slice ball🤣
Yeah you could actually see the exact moment when his brain went... "wtf??😟🤔😒"
🤣
His a clown😅
Exactly!! I thought I was having a mental break down but fortunately there are more people who realized the sidespin Patrick demonstrated could never come from a ball which is hit on the left side from high to low. It is just not possible although Federer came very close of bending the rules of the forces of nature to his own will. Hitting the ball on the left side from low to high, this kind of spin definitely is possible and Federer was able to do it when playing the backhand sidespin short cross.
But I think like others already said Patrick is just clowning around on this one 😅
Shame that nobody taught Stefanos Tsitsipas how to hit a decent slice backhand....
maybe if he would have a coach instead of influencer...
Der geht zu oft pissen!
Amazing
nobody talk about his short crosscourt forehand on the run, taken behind him
Wow
When he tries to illustrate the spin on the ball, you can see the exact moment when his brain went 🤔😟😒🤔
Gustavo' kuerten as well used to do this shot...
Talking about Fed in past tense 😢😢😢
Only two men who had the most dangerous backhand slice is Federer and Lendl. Both these guys used them as weapons. I think Federer slice done the line is probably the hardest because he’s forcing you to hit cross court to his forehand and probably hitting is short because of the spin. And Lendl was heavy and it skipped stayed low and was penetrating the court. Players said it was like digging it out of the ground.
Roger the artist. ❤
The ball can’t possibly rotate on two axis once it’s in free motion off the strings. It’s an effect of one spin and a direction vector change.
I hit this shot all the time...didn't know Federer hit it until I saw this
Easy said than done. It's looked simple but effective. And only Roger can do that.
Chokrer
@@kingnole4237 king nole is the king of fake toilet injury breaks.😅
I keep doing this, by accident 😂
The ball cannot rotate simultaneously around several axes; it can only rotate around one axis. This axis can be inclined, but still it is a single axis. The Worldclass coach should know this😅
That’s my favorite shot to hit and opponents never know what to do with it! I had no idea I was accidentally copying the Feds😂😂
What. I can hit the slice BH with side spin in my sleep but i never knew it was that devastating. I'm sure lots of guy's can do that. But I'll pay more attention to how it affects my opponent.
It can't spin in 2 different directions at the same time. Law of physics.
First of all he was taking the ball very late while facing away from the net and playing this shot backwards.
Like a lefty slide serve, right?!
Kind of, but the racquet is diagonally below rather than diagonally above the ball at contact, so its sidespin slice rather than sidespin topspin.
Physical impossibility as he described. Free spinning ball can only have one axis of rotation.
We might see players and remind us of nadal or nole or anyone else. We will never see the artistry and effortless tenis of roger. The man was dancing when his opponents were running for their lives. That's why he is my goat . Even if nole goes for 30
A ball can only spin one direction.
Usually what was Rogers next shot a high volley?
Carve slice?
Yo esperando que hiciera el tiro jajajajjaja no es lo mismo explicar que hacer las cosas.
Agreed but I wouldn't 4get Laver 's Rosewall's Connors' Navratilova's Graf's n Vinci's.
The "problem" with Graf's was that she didn't really have a topspin or hit-through BH; she sliced about 80% or more of what came to her BH side. Also, she didn't have quite as much variety (not to mention elegance) as Fed's slice. As for the others - well, Laver and Rosewall were net-rushers (in keeping with their times) and so was Navratilova. Connors was a baseliner but I've haven't seen much of his slicing. Vinci - I can't speak about having never watched her.
thank you Patrick Mouratoglou compliment Explanation method beckspin of Roger Federer bat to exist another method to use wrist.
Yours sincerely

E what does that mean side lines very short ?
Mans explaining basic spin like its some dark magic 😂
23...389
I also do that.. A little bit slower 😁
Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no. How many people are going to start “swinging down” after this video? Underspin on the backhand should be made with slightly elevated strings, not downward swings?
erm, most recreational player slicers has that side spin
I think if roger would have developed flat backhand shot with more power, he would be much ahead of novak and nadal. And with the age, there was no scope left for this at his career end. With improved racket equipments , two handed backhand players nowadays can generate more power in their shot. So, serve and volley game has become an outdated techneque..
The fastest recorded two-handers and one handers are both a little over 100 mph, very similar speeds. So I'm not sure about more power on the two-hander. It is easier to control, though.
How did he do that? Predestined things 🤷🏻♂️ it's like asking Messi or Jordan to explain what they did by instint, it's not possible.
And federer did not know that😅
How can the ball spin in two direction? 😂😂
He explaining how to slice but demonstrating ball top spin with his arms in the end))) hilarious. Murat just stopped it. You are destructive as a tennis coach. Be a manager as all your life before. Coaching is just not yours.
Sorry it never happened for you
Actually it's not just because his wrist was bent, his wrist is bent on almost every shot he hits LOL... It's because he is slicing a ball above the waist... If the ball were below his waist the slice would spin the other way ... Simple physics pat
Do you mean the waist or the wrist? The wrist would make sense imo because the racquet has to extend diagonally upwards from his hand. The waist seems beside the point because you can hold your arm higher or lower and still andle your racquet either way.
@@molybdaenmornell123hopp5he means WAIST😂
It is a reverse vibora
Oolala
Didnt work on Nadal and Djokovic.
Ken Rosewall's slice backhand was probably better than Federer's...
Of course, and all the other shots I guess..
@@whitemaz3756 volleys too... Definitely ❗
But no... Nothing else.
I agree. The old timers did slice better. But Roger did make slice cool again.
@@goldencalf5144 Yep! ... That he did. But Federer's backhand was both topspin & slice.
Ken Rosewall only used the flattish slice which was both accurate & very penetrating❗
En français Patrick !!
It’s actually a shot that most recreational level tennis players know how to hit. It is not that difficult. I think for some reason he just decided at some point in his career to start using it and become really good at it. It’s not a shot that a lot of other pro players rely on as much as Federer did.
“It’s not that difficult” LOL
@@Yungdil If you have been playing tennis for any amount of time, this is not a difficult shot to hit. It’s a slice with sort of a windshield wiper motion combined. Obviously, a recreational player is not going to be hitting it the way Roger Federer hits it, but that’s because he is Roger Federer, and we are recreational players who don’t have that kind of training. But yes, it’s fairly easy to hit. Any beginner can learn how to hit that shot.
@@adamh7947 that’s like saying roger Federer forehand is an easy shot any recreational player can hit a forehand with topspin. Are you dense
@@Yungdil maybe it’s not clear what I’m saying. This backhand that Federer hits, with the combination of under spin and side spin, is an easy shot for a recreational player to learn and hit. It’s not a genius type of a shot. It’s a basic tennis stroke. I’m not saying a recreational player can hit it at his level because obviously he practices a lot. But it is an easy type of shot. I think that makes sense. And yes, any recreational player can learn to hit a topspin forehand. That is not a difficult shot either. I used to coach and teach tennis.
@@adamh7947ur right
we will never hear him say Nadal, cause he is french
I used to hit my slices with this effect but my instructor "corrected" me out of it. I used to like the effect it had and I'm thinking of using it again.
Yes, why not just have both shots in your toolbox? (as long as it doesn't complicate your decision making on court)
peRFect
Patrick can't do it...show us!!
Steffi Graf's was probably at least as good
Yes..but Roger failed to play this cross court slice against Nadal more often..
Any player in history would struggle to defeat peak Nadal on Clay.
@@shiftt. True..just saying..Roger never really tried to put Nadal out of positiion with that short cross court side slice..

Can you explain how his slice was once measured at 7200 rpm?
When ..?
Yeah, the camera doing the measurements was broken.
@@goldencalf5144 fyi His average slice was 5000 rpm.
@@tennnis498 I seem to remember his record slice being 5300, at least among Yandell's selection of his shots. When did 7200 happen?
The best of all time? Ahahahah
What a wonder that despite such magic powers Djokovic left him behind by such a huge and growing margin 😅😅😅
Federer was INCREDIBLE but tsitsipas is a better , stronger , more technical version
Lol
Had he won Wimbledon 2019 he would be considered the GOAT. He would retire with nothing else to prove. Sadly, his nerves got the better of him at the very last moment. That last ball going up to the moon is so poetic: a god becoming a mere mortal. A legend nevertheless.
Another special shot from federe, was his great sportsmanship, that your puppets lack a lot 😅
And then GOAT Djokovic crushed weak era champ like a peanut haha 😂
