I ride an Orbea Gain gravel with the same motor set up, I average around 60 miles & 2000metres of climb on a full charge. I generally cruise at just over 15mph cut off so the motor only really works when I start climbing or hit head winds. For an ageing rider it's a great way of increasing range if you've a long commute or just being able to decide how hard you want to ride on any given day.
I've a low-power MTB, yesterday I rode 20 miles & 5,000ft of climbing in just over 3 hours, used just over half the battery. Just need to stay out of turbo mode and it's quite surprising what they'll do.
Hi. Is it an On-Off system or does it have some torque sensor to tell the motor how much it has to support you? (Sorry, not an English speaker)
@@paolopetrozzi2213 Yeah it's literally on-off but feels gradual rather than sudden. -More noticeable when you have the motor set to 100% assist.
@@stevecoward3543
Thanks, Steve.
@@paolopetrozzi2213 with mine Specialized Kenevo SL, I can use the app to amend power, support or both.
You must have been riding an awful lot of the ride over the 15mph cut off to get that sort of range. Most mere mortals would struggled for their battery to last that sort of ride as it's only 250 watt hours
Yes your right, so I learnt nothing from this ride
I agree with you peter , I have done the tests myself.
On a ordinary ride out with some decent hills in , I can achieve about 40 miles, but on saying that my battery is 4.5 years old.
A great option to get those with either less power out on longer rides exploring new places, or helping people who could otherwise not even be able to consider riding. The bike looks good too, not garish at all
Dude riding at minus 5.. props
Electric bikes are not only performing well, but they are getting better and better looking too - that is a sleek machine 👍🏻
That would make a longer commute more doable like my 80mile round trip with 5k feet of climbing. It was ok on day 1 but every day nah. The only issue is they are not cheep. It is a good looking bike you would not know at first glance.
Any chance of using the cycle to work scheme?
Can you list it as activity ebike on Strava please? just curious to see where you end up. Oh and I'm guessing you would have done just as well on a normal bike?
How the hell is that the first Bakewell tart you have eaten. Have you been living under a rock!!!
I have a similar bike and it’s 15mph cut off. You’re obviously a very capable and fit cyclist, for many you’d burn the battery big style in ‘red’ mode. With good management I can get 70 miles range, in red mode it may be as little as 40.
I've got a Ribble Endurance SL e & I love in Manchester, so I'm gonna do this challenge myself soon 👌🏻🚴💨💨⚡
The motor cuts out at 'around 18mph'?
I think you mean 'exactly 15.5mph and not even slightly over'.
@4:48 - because in the middle of town, there's a spring where you can get it for free...
Damn, you guys got snow up north… thank god it’s coming to spring
This almost mirrors that day I had as a motorbike courier when i had a 'run' up to manchester from london, and doing just a tad more than the national speed limit officer, my panniers managed to slip onto the exhaust and caught fire and I lost all my belongings including credit cards somewhere along the M56. Managed to deliver a scorched parcel to the recipient but only had about 3/4 of a gallon in the tank to get to Nottingham where a mate lived. It was the slowest a Honda CX500 had ever been driven over the Peaks but i managed to roll into Lenton on vapours. Nothing to do with cycling, but hey! Just thought i'd share!
Grey for a cycling jacket - bonkers!
What voltage/amps was the battery ?
Our winters often get down to 10 degrees and sometimes it rains. Needless to say we wait a few hours for the rain to stop and then go for a ride. Cycling really is better in Australia.
Good video and good info on the battery life
You should have got proper Buxton Water at St Anne’s well👍🚴
the only person paying for buxton water in buxton
What's that jacket you're wearing, is it waterproof and warm (ish) ?, I' m looking for something that I can ride in that will keep me dry but not overheat !
So a great bike for someone fit enough to ride long intervals at 18+ in order to conserve battery power. I just wonder, people who are that fit, would they spend their own money on one of those bikes, or just stay fit by riding their own bikes they already have.
Motor cuts out at 15.5 mph so must have been riding above cut out a lot
Didnt even notice you live in Town now! Also agree with the last two goals (Bakewell especially!) not the first ;)
I alway find the nearest church yard, they alway have a tap outside to fill bottles up 😉
Do Ebikes recharge the battery when going downhill?
Is there an app with that bike so that you can analyse your ride. I have a Lapierre road/racing bike with the same electric motor set up that I bought online in Germany. I gave up trying to get a Ribble as the waiting times were insane and since Brexit the bike in not price competitive in Ireland anymore.
I grew up around Whaley bridge, used to get snow days in June
Did you have flaired bars or were your levers pointing inwards 🤔👍🚴
could just be the wide angle of the camera
DId U have Regen breaking? If you can feather the breaks on downhill w/out engaging the disc it pumps up your range by as much as 15%
Should of gone to the well in Buxton and get the purest form of Buxton water
Wow its cold in the beginning of March, just like most years.
Cool! And on my birthday too!
Hi Cameron
Super video around where I live ! Was the bike aluminium that you were on and would you say it would be considerably better having the carbon version ? I’ve been looking at both those ribble bikes recently but was thinking of aluminium with carbon wheels ? Your thoughts ?
Small Bakewell tart 😂😂 & you've never tasted before??? 😮
Nice one Cam
Hi Cameron - will you be riding the Manchester marathon course in a few weeks before the run starts?
Flat in Manc? what happened to the house you bought?
Would love to see how an electric bike would do from my house, just 50m above sea level, to the highest possible point by road near me, 45km away, to a height of 2400m.
As some one who lives in the Netherlands a bike like this with that max speed is completely useless 99.9% of the time for everyone that is in just a little bit of a trained state. So what do you do, you adjust your wheel diameter a bit.
You missed photographing your Ribble bike next to the river Ribble....
If you want to do a test ride then please get your facts right the assist cuts out at 15.5 mph also completely missinforming the average rider over the range to expect as generally people who buy ebikes are not bike racers
A Bakewell Tart?…..oh it’s a cake….I thought it was a lady of the night
Cambodia?
100km in turbo mode in that cold??? Seems way more than others get. Is this sponsored?
No he is a really good cyclist that spent most of the journey above the motor cut off speed.
That is NOT a proper Bakewell Tart! and you got it from Bakewell🤦
That is not a Bakewell Tart!
Shout me if you will be riding the Manchester marathon course in April. We've got 26 miles of closed roads to use
is that an official thing or do u just go for a ride on the route a few hrs before the marathon starts
If you need someone to look after it while you’re on your regular bike give me a shout
Calling it...this video is click bait
Oh please, have some respect. When you eat a Bakewell tart you don't talk. You might lose a crumb.
Wtf is a gravel bike American i suppose
First
I despise ebikes. But this is nevertheless a good adventure! Next time do it on a real bike though.
Such a silly attitude
Do you have the same attitude about E gearing like Di 2 & Etap, and what about those who ride zwift instead of the real roads or is just E-Bikes.
I don't despise ebikes...but despise probably 90% of the arrogant idiots who ride them.
@@Mysixshooter yes I have the same attitude to those monstrosities too.
i dont like them either. Im not sure what to think about them.... everybody seems to have an ebike these days and im sure its fun but people miss the point i think. All you need is a decent road or gravelbike and you can have great fun and get some good speed even if youre not in crazy shape. Each their own but i just think people kinda lose touch to what it means to JUST use your body and a bike and mechanical parts to go as fast or as far as possible and push your body. Just kind of ruins the sport for me if you start to add motors and batteries.
looking for a bakewell tart in a bakery...bet ur mint at hide and seek ;)
That's not a bakewell tart, that's a cherry bakewell.
😂
Correct!
You literally rode past the fountain thing that is Buxton water in the first clip of you in Buxton, that wouldn’t have cost you anything! 😂😂
All the manufacturers data and yutube riders of e bikes, you must have been putting a lot of effort in so that the motor was not being used.
A more realistic vlog would be to ride at 24km/hour to see how long the battery lasts, i should imagine possibly max 100km
I cycled into the Peak District from Derby on a normal bike and it nearly killed me… those hills!
Should be easier on an e-bike though…
Great video however that’s not a bakewell tart. 😢 however kudos for heading down Monsal trail in the snow it does get cold on there.
that sure aint no bakewell tart , grrrrrrrrr
It possibly could be called a Bakewell “tart”. The proper Bakewell “pudding” is the real deal and VERY different.
Very enjoyable adventure. However it would have been nice to have done a proper ‘post ride’ analysis at the end, instead of a rushed outro.
Agreed
@@unfab Yep
15mph is the cut off
Why he says 18 mph is the cut off, I don’t know, he should know
15.5 to be a little more precise, but sometimes in the settings you can change the wheel circumference and that can get you pedal assistance up to 17.
@@davidatkinson-lifematters4826 thanks, that’s worth knowing
Great video, especially because it's around my ends. Would have been really nice on a good day. I am sure Ribble liked it too. Win, win 👍
Hi cam. This vid defo meeds revisiting. See how far you can get in one day on full charge! I'd wait until summer though!! 😅 ❄ 👍👍
Like you videos in general, but I think the distance needs a fact check as most e bike riders will be very surprised to hear a range at 160>180km out of one charge, especially as you said the 100km you did was in max power mode, unless you actually had the range extender fitted which i believe is an option, though as you stated 18mph when the legal limit is 15.5mph for the motor to disengage perhaps your not up to date with this tech ? In the end this is a sponsored video, so likely to be a little bias (they always are from everyone) but the mileage i think is just misleading, 250w battery in sub zero temps... hmmm. not convinced and yes i do have an e bike so used to seeing real life distance.
hey Cam , FYI i have those castelli gloves and they are the bomb diggity for cold weather riding
fake bikes for fake....... non sporters doing sport; buy a scooter, much easier>.
How many watts do you think you saved?
I really like the bike
First
This is not sport.ride less k with own power in stead of ridiculing yourself
How did you film it? What equipment did you use?
Used to live up long hill😊
A small bakewell tart ? Think they only come in one size mate 😄
Debate started here
But which setting was it on eco , urban or sport mode and each have 3 modes low mid high My bike has same motor etc and at mo only getting 36 miles but its cold and iam 17 stone .
Hi rob
I think you are being more realistic about the miles achieved.
The most I have achieved on a sunny day , on a 2.7 mile circuit over 2 Days on low setting all the time , no hills , 11stone in weight , dry warm conditions is 70 miles , never coming off the low setting.
my Orbea as the same motor as the ribble
@@julieburgess3398 70 miles is pretty good tho . With extra battery you easy do more but not cheap . I did 46 last summer with batt left.
If you stay in eco mode the battery lasts quite a long time but but in turbo mode it quickly discharges, in my opinion battery life isn’t great and will improve a lot in time
remember when I lived in central manny the rides through the centre we're a death trap!
Looks great bro but f**k that in Northern weather 🥶
1st Bakewell tart 😮 best cake going
No hands next to a canal 😂 Lady luck is with you 🤞🏼
Where is the battery on the bike?
In downtube 250watt
I think e bikes are the worst thing to ever happen to cycling. Especially for those of us who love to battle for KOMS
Haha I've seen some incredible times on roads where 34mph really isn't possible . I hope people don't cheat and use E bikes
I can’t stand this ridiculous attitude to Ebikes
@@cathschofield7488 I don’t think you know the difference between ridiculous attitude and opinion
@@DanielMooreDJ oh indeed I do, I was being kinder by using ‘attitude’.
@@cathschofield7488 the first 2 words I use was “I think”. I think according to Collins Dictionary- used to say that one believes something is true i.e. their opinion
