Whilst recording, Slash was too poor to own an amp and so they were being hired in for him; he came across a customised Marshall amp that he got that super fucking beautifully unique sound for the album. By the time he decided to 'lose' the amp and tell Marshall they couldn't get it back, his roadie had sent the fucker back. He said himself that he's tried to recreate the sound but it's been to no avail :(
