- A little video I had put together over 20 years ago during the making of "Atomic Filmmakers" which features Charles Wyckoff who worked for EG&G (Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier). Also includes a restoration demo showing shots from our optical film department.
Man, I know we absolutely shouldn’t test these bombs anymore in 2020 but wow, what an insane experience it would be to see this in person and 8k video!!!

The fire ball looks something alien
There was an EG&G movie with the small hut on the tower shown here but the first couple of frames show the sides of the hut bulging at the very beginning of detonation. I saw it on TV many years ago but have not found it on YT or anywhere else.

Wonder what those jet like things were that shot out the bottom of more than one of the explosions. Some of them had more than two spots where energy shot out like a spike. All the pictures these cameras took are extremely neat!
The hard radiation is absorbed by the guide wires of the shot cab, which then heats up and the heat travels way faster through the metal than the atmosphere, creating these spikes of the plasma ball.

And they are vaporized by the X-rays traveling at or near the speed of light. which is much faster that the shock wave of the fireball.
@@sealy3 It's not x-rays that vaporise them since they're absorbed by the air, but the cables do absorb UV, visible light and IR radiation. That's why the effect could be enhanced or prevented by painting the cables black or covering them with reflective foil.

I want to mention that the Rapatronic Cameras, were invented by Dr. Harold Edgerton, and his design is quite amazing. The shutter for this cameras is based on the so called Kerr Cell. He was a great genious and a fine experimentalist.

I do not understand. How the camera survive the explosion? How the huge amount of radiation do not overexpose the picture?
The cameras were over ten miles away in bunkers along with test and control equipment. They were equipped with darkened glass shields from welding helmets.

Count every second from the explosion to the soundwave reaches camera. Then multiply it 300 times and you’ll get the distance

Do you have any information on what kind of armoured housing they were in? There is one sequence set on the shot cab as it was vaporised that would be my favourite and I have always wondered what they did to protect the camera and film.
The useage of lots of mirrors saved these cameras if I’m not mistaken
The cameras were located on towers about 7 miles away from the shot tower, well out of blast range.

Explanation:

They've been telling us about 923 (probably September 2023) at least since 1986 (movie Labyrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly). I can only assume that the nukes will fly then.
Be aware that some of the 923 references are obvious, others are obscure. For example, the letter "I" ("I" for India) is the ninth (9th) letter of the English alphabet so is another reference to "9". Also, the number "1" (one) looks like an "I" so it is sometimes used along with "23" to indicate "923" - this technique is used in the introduction to "The Simpsons". Other variations use a "6" as an upside down "9", and various combinations of the digits such as 239, 329, etc.
Stock up on B Vitamins (B for Brain). B supplements are necessary for us to handle stress.

With all of these new (high speed) camera techniques, I believe that we have to start some new series of tests instead of restoring old footage.
