    Thank you so much, I do a lot of aftermarket stereo installs so understood everything you have said. The only thing I did different is put new speaker cable in from both rears and I cut both cables to the front door speakers from amp 1 and put new speaker cable in too. All 4 new speaker cables go to my aftermarket head unit. So I have the standard 4 way setup. Now I still have my indicator sounds and reverse chimes because what I realised if you cut the speaker wires from the original ehu, ( both rear 4" speakers and both dash 3.5") you loose the warning chimes. On my 93 aero 2005 (7 speaker) all my warning chimes come from dash left and dash right speakers. Only noticed this after connecting everything back to standard setup,coz I've upgraded the speaker wire. So yes I ve lost the tweeters but I can just run some more cable up from front door speakers to dash for that in time.
    So my advice is install new speaker cable from rears, disconnect 4" speakers upgrade to 6x9s (saloon model)
    Cut front door speakers, I managed to trace mine in both front foot Wells behind kick panels. Arse to do too.
    Wire new cable to them as your fronts. Add tweeters from there up to dash if you want
    As long as the dash speakers are still connected to the original ehu you won't loose any warning chimes.
    Hope this helps.

    Nicely done. Also in my 2005 93 i found i could i tuck the top 'brain' unit inside / behind the dash, lower the heating/AC unit down so its sitting pretty much on the ashtray and pull out the crazy cupholder. This gives enough space for a double din head unit in perfect position

    Have you tried to connect power and ground from ICM unit? You should get aftermarket head unit started when you put your key in the slot, no matter what position (lock, off, on .. ). But since you feeding all speakers through amps you probably don't need that. I'm planing to connect 4 front speakers directly to aftermarket head unit and 6x9s in back with amp. Plus bring amp remote from rear fuse box, to start amp when key position is ON. And that's a very useful video. Thanks.

    Very informative video. I had a few quick questions if you don't mind. What model of head-unit did you use for this install? And if you're not changing amps or speakers, do you still need to splice cables to connect the single din unit, or are there 'plug-and-play' adaptors for certain single din units? Thanks again for the very helpful video. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @caveboy1111

      To my knowledge, the only way to keep the chimes would be to wire the front middle speaker to your new aftermarket head unit because that's where the noise comes from. I ran all new speaker wire (and replaced the speakers) so my chimes are all gone. You'd have to find where that wire is and reroute it to your new unit. Hope this helps

      I don't think there's an easy way to know which adapter to get, you have to buy them both and see which one fits (that's what I did). The loopback connector comes with instructions inside the box showing you exactly what to do. I'd post a video if I didn't have to take apart my whole stereo to show you; sorry!

    awesome video and great help hints!!!
    I want to put in a double din aftermerket stereo (with mirror link etc.) at the same position taking out my ashtray and cigarette lighter. I will cut a new panel for the stereo to cover up the sides, probably with ABS plastic. My questions is: Can I run just the new stereo when I push CD on my upper radio and that way still have steering wheel controls. Leaving the speaker attachment where it is and just looping my new stereo into the box above the old CD?
    Thanks!

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  7 лет назад

      That won't be possible unless you find an adapter to do so. The reason being: your speakers will all be attached to the new stereo, so the old stereo will be more or less useless.

    I mean if my Saab has a cd/mp3 player integrated in the dash, can I also add an aftermarket cassette tape player, so I could use both the original cd player but also the tape player?
    Thanks

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  7 лет назад +1

      The reason that wouldn't be possible is because you'd only be able to wire the speakers to one or the other. The only way to have both would be to find an aftermarket stereo with both of the features you're looking for.

    Hey quick question, will probably be a stupid one but, I've heard of people using 1/8 vacuum line to combine the two fiber optic lines in the amp1(13 speaker system). Do you think that would work instead of buying the adapter, or is the adapter specific to this process? I got my radio from my jeep I'm taking out and putting into my 06 9-3, was planning on doing it today but don't want to try if it's not going to work. I'm sure your not going to know the 100% awnser but really just asking your opinion. Never dealt with fiber-optic before but it seems to be the "main vein" to these Saabs

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  6 лет назад

      As long as the light has a way to pass through the line without being interrupted it should be okay. What's nice about buying the adapter is that you "snap" the 2 fiber optic lines into place so they can't move and it's a perfect fit every time. If you were to use the vacuum line, you'd have to rig up your own way for the light to shine perfectly into it without ever moving so the system remains complete.

    So the 2006 HU is different from urs. Was thinking of putting in a slimmer 2 din radio.. Where my stock radio is located. Would that mess with any other feature, asking since you said that area is where everything is controlled..from what it looks like seems its just the radio tho. I know ill probably need to rewire all the speakers. Or at least the ones that come from thr amp (under driver seat.) And if i did do this would i still get the chimes/warning beeps?

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  5 лет назад

      From my understanding, that control unit is basically the brain of the car; controlling all of the sensors, warnings, beeps, etc. The chimes/beeps come from the middle speaker in front of the screen displaying the time and other features. If you leave it connected, I'm assuming you wouldn't lose any chimes/beeps.

    Hiya Bryan, can u please make some light for me? After everything is done, do u have the same controls like steering wheel volume and everything else? Mine for example does not have a cd changer so i'll just buy 4 door speakers to plug directly to the aftermarket player and a sub in the boot... in this case, how do i do the connections keeping count that i don't have a cd changer?! Cos u said u made a connection between the aftermarket player and original cd changer of the car... And that loop back connector is taken from old cd player and fitted onto the new aftermarket player? Thanks mate!

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  8 лет назад +1

      The steering wheel controls do not work with the aftermarket stereo. The way SAABs system works is that every fiber optic connection must be working or the car won't run. So the loopback connector has no connection to the new aftermarket stereo, the only purpose of it is to close the loop. The power and ground cables from the CD changer are the only things that are directly attached to the new stereo.

    My radio currently won't work and I have replaced the amp 1 and fuses and haven't been able to find the short causing it not to work. My question is if I install an aftermarket unit with I be able to use the existing wires to the speakers or would I have to run new ones? My main head unit original lights up but won't turn on. I want an aftermarket over the original anyway but with that one not working I wasn't sure if that would cause the aftermarket not to work

    • @caveboy1111

      If there's a short in the original wiring, chances are the aftermarket unit will have the same problem. I think your safest bet will be to keep searching for the short, and then upgrade to an aftermarket unit after that!

      If the cigarette lighter doesn't work, that'll be why your head unit isn't working. I don't know off the top of my head another place for switched power. The only thing I can think of (which is really inconvenient) is finding a fuse in one of the panels that is switched power, and piggy back off of that.

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  8 лет назад

      Yes, this car is ignorant to run wires from the engine bay.. I ended up drilling a hole in the top of the wheel well at the front and running the cable down the kick panel and drilled up through the rear wheel well and having my amps in the trunk. Really inconvenient, but it was the only option really.

    • @chaddwamboldt9763
      @chaddwamboldt9763 8 лет назад

      Thanks dude. I ended up just running it along the gap in the hood and through a tiny hole I cut in the door seal. I'm hoping it'll still seal with the rain hits but I just didn't want to do any drilling. This car is built like a friggin tank, I've never had anything like it. Not sure about radio because I still have to get that adapter. But if I get the loop back will it give me all 6 speakers back and sound better? Right now only 4 speakers are playing. The wires in the stock harness weren't all color matched so I kind of just touched them together till I heard the music playing but it doesn't really sound like speakers that are powered by an amp. Is posible that i have burn the ehu and the new unit? Or the wires they dont have enought ampers for ehu and new unit ? Both ehu and n.u. are verry hot is normal ? My n.u. has a green rca output for sub and 2x red and white rca for front and rear left and right , i want to use the unit with an amplifier with 4 chanels ( 2 bridget for sub and 2 for shelft speakers , the amp can do this ) .the amp has 4 rca in and to use all 4 chanels needs signal on all 4 rca in. Is ok to use FR/FL RR/RL out from unit to amp? Enyone manage to conect swc with aftermarket ?

      Laurentiu Roman The reason the belts, turning, doors, etc won't work anymore is because you replaced the speakers which were connected to the main EDU that made noises for the car; I don't have sounds anymore either but I'm not worried about it. You shouldn't have burned the new unit. You'll need 2 amplifiers to power what you have. A 4-channel amp is not sufficient because you have 4 speakers and 2 subs. You'll need a mono-block amp like I had for my subs and the 4-channel for your speakers. Then you'll have 6 rca outputs going to the back of your aftermarket unit and they'll all plug in (2 for sub output, 4 for speaker output)

      Dash speakers i didnt chang them and are still conected to ehu . I use only one sub and 2 speakers on that amp ( amp is working ch1+2 bridged for sub and ch3 and ch4 for that 2 speaker) . Today i have change the wiring to new unit and dont use enymore the power from ehu. Again in the morning everything was fine and now when i come bake home sounds wont work again .

      Laurentiu Roman The dash speakers aren't the ones making the sounds, the door speakers were the ones connected to the sounds which is why you don't have them anymore. I don't really understand your question so I'm having a hard time helping you.

      Basic system doesnt have door speakers ( has 2 in dash and 2 on shelft on the back) the sounds are produced by ehu and delivered to the dash speakers . My problem is that the warning , turning and other souns they working only somethimes but i think i will leave it like that, probably some wires connections or ehu trouble ( it is a used one because the old one has gone ) . Now i just want to see if i can make to work the swc with new player .

    Will this change the sound of the actual speakers or it will still have the high pass filter on?

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  9 лет назад

      +George Octavian That is a very good question. If you're keeping the stock speakers, I'd assume the high pass filters would be then turned off. However, most head units nowadays have high pass filter options on them, so if you set them, it should go back to the way the old head unit was.

    • @speedline992
      @speedline992 9 лет назад

      +Bryan Straatman i was thinking to run my own head unit in parallel with the actual sound system as i have the crap 4 speakers system. So i want to do all my wiring and then put new 4 speakers in the front doors and 6x9 rear shelf. I was wondering if you got the wiring diagram for the front doors as you cannot add any extra wires. Them are all on connectors so my best bet would be to use the prewiring from the factory for door speakers.

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  9 лет назад

      +George Octavian I just used a basic wiring diagram off of google. If you did a setup like that you might run into problems when placing the speakers in your door; you'd need to make a custom door panel because I don't believe there is room. The stock wiring is a real hassle so I drilled through my door to run my own setup. I'm not using any of the stock wiring locations. SAAB is a really ignorant car to customize so you need to improvise a lot.

    • @speedline992
      @speedline992 9 лет назад

      +Bryan Straatman i was thinking to use the stock wiring so i will not drill my doors (might need to take the doors off as there is not enough space to drill it in the right angle) and to feed it right after it comes in the cockpit if you know what i mean..

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  9 лет назад

      +George Octavian Only problem is, the stock wiring has special plug which can't be used as far as I know.

    Hey! I wired my head unit to the cigarette lighter. Before I tore anymore wires up, I figured go ahead and turn the switch on and see if the head unit powers up. It did not. I don’t have a loop back. Is that why this isn’t turning on?

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  7 лет назад

      That could be part of it. When you take out the CD changer, a loopback is absolutely necessary or your car won't turn on.

    • @kobyk1534
      @kobyk1534 7 лет назад

      The vehicle starts up without the loopback

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  7 лет назад

      For the cigarette lighter you won't need it, but for the CD changer you will. I'm not really sure why your head unit isn't working right now, sorry.

    Not sure if this has already been covered (there's lots of comments) but what speaker wires do you use? I'd be tempted to feed my own through leaving the dash ones in place for indicators etc...

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  7 лет назад +1

      Not entirely sure what you mean by that. I put all new speakers in, so I didn't use any existing speaker wires. I know the indicators are hooked to the dash speakers (like you said), so if you just found out which speaker wires were for those speakers and linked those into your new head unit, that would work.

    Ok any suggestions for brand or type of sub?

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  8 лет назад

      +Alex Kidd I'm running 2 10" JL Audio W3v3's and I absolutely love them. They're on the higher end of the market so they cost a decent amount of money, but they're totally worth it. I haven't had any problems with them and they have a great range of tones.

    • @caveboy1111
      @caveboy1111  8 лет назад

      +Bryan Straatman But as a more general statement, JL and Kicker are both great companies for subs. JL has a great range of subs with really tight sound and they're crisp, while Kicker is more for if you just want something really really loud. For boxes, I prefer something sealed vs ported because I listen to a wide range of music so a sealed box keeps the sound tight. A ported box is for someone who wants really loud bass, but sometimes its not as tight sounding as sealing and it can be overwhelming.

      You can tap into the rear 6x9" speaker wire with a line out converter. Then plug your RCA's into the line out converter. It needs to be the 6x9"'s in the 13 speaker system... Other systems i would try to find which speakers are making the bass and use them... This is not perfect as you are amplifying and already amplified signal but it works! Good Luck!
