i tried this pedal because of your demo years ago and fell in love with it! Still going strong in my board. All my "boutique snob" friends could not believe the tones that are coming out of this super affordable thing. Looking forward to the shootout! Thanks Shane!
I decided to buy the Biyang X-Drive and a Caline Crazy Cacti after checking Shane's videos on RUclips. The Caline is VERY GOOD and may be the best choice for some, but the Biyang exceeded all my expectations! It's hard to explain how rich is the overdriven tone generated by the X-Drive. Best overdrive pedal I have ever used. Congratulations to Shane! Great videos!
Yeah Shane, you asked for my thoughts when I bought this pedal from you. I've been (ab)using it for about 2 months through my Tele, Strats and the Tokai LP into various amps including; Plexi and Bassman for live and smaller amps including '65 Deluxe Reverb (no not the reissue), EC Tremolux, Marshall Class 5, and a real sleeper - the Epiphone Junior - all for recording. It does give TS tones no worries but it actually is way more versatile than that. It can morph itself to fitting all of these guitars and amps easily and good tones are all over the place. I get really good rhythm tones so quickly it's not funny, the little Epiphone fair roars lol. Another great combination with this pedal (with the drive backed off and the volume up) is in front of the MXR M78 distortion (or I suppose any decent distortion) which I step on for lead. As for the other pedals I can compare it to including the Joyo V.O., Boss BD, MXR 77, Bad Monkey and TS-808, well unfortunately the Biyang makes the TS seem vastly overpriced and the others (while there are good tones in them) can't match the versatility of the Biyang. Hope this helps. Oh, just HAVE to mention my all time favourite pedal............the Lovepedal Les Lius, (from a Tweed Dlx to a Twin in a box) mmmmmmmm, I sound just like Keef......only I can keep time. Lol Oh and almost forgot to bore u with my fav Wah, the Wilson 12 spot, (from funk to porn to growl all in one Wah) the session possibilities are endless :) Keep up the good work, I'll catch u at one of your gigs if I ever make it to Sydney.
I just picked one up from cashies, Never seen one before, Google'd it while in the store and first thing a seen was that it was one of your all time fav's so a laided down the $40 and took it home, so glad I did, turned my stock 15 years old Maton mastersound from a timid puppy to a hell hound :) ........... thanks for the Reviews Shane :)
Love my Od-8 , I can say it's my favorite overdrive pedal. I got rid of a TS-9 to keep that one , now I'm using it in front of a Boss blues driver !!!!!! it is amazing how those two pedals are different and how they work well together ( would be really nice if you can make a vid of it ). Feels like it makes the blues driver a little more tighter more focus overdrive. You can push it to a complete Motorhead style distortion !!!! I've try the opposite the BD-2 first and it's a no go !!!
Hi Shane, I'm glad I bought this back in the day when you'd just reviewed it. I love it and apart from my g2 cornish clone I don't see myself needing much else. I'm now using it with the chip that comes in most klon type pedals (tl072cp ?) which sounds great.. Cheers
I love the sound of this pedal! Always been a huge fan of the Bad Monkey (I keep one in the back of my amp at all times) but I now prefer the sound of the OD-8, thanks to your review. Would I find a use for this alongside a Joyo Sweet baby on my board, do you think, or are they too similar? I currently run a Joyo Roll Boost into a Sweet Baby into a Us Dream. Then I have a Joyo British (for Marshall tones) at the end of my signal chain, after the mods and delay, because it's a preamp. Be grateful for your advice. Thanks for all the reviews, man, they're really helpful!
I have the mad driver and I love it. the controls on this are the same. need to pick one of these up and use them together. I also have the fuzz in this tonfancier series. I like it a lot also but it's pretty bright.
Thanks for the great demos. Do you know how this pedal compares to the similar cheaper Biyang Blues Tonefancier? I run a ukulele group in St Kilda in Melbourne, I've tried a lot of these cheaper pedals to find ones that work with nylon strings and piezo pickups. An ideas? Cheers
Great sounding pedal. Unfortunately mine startet some strange behavior yesterday: the led lit up although the switch was off when I turned up the volume knob a little. And the switching was accompagnied by a plopp which wasn't there before. I guess it was when I put the 9v plug in when it was already on battery power, which shouldn't cause any defect. Quite sad! Anybody had an idea, what could be the cause?
3 weeks later, I have the OD-8 X Drive, $57 on eBay. It sounds amazing. All my favorite overdrives are cheapies. Heck, the most expensive ones I use are stock-standard RAT2 and a Soul Food. But the Biyang and a Caline Pure Sky are what I am using now, for my workhorse OD tones.
Hi Shane, is the first guitar you use a 60th anniversary commemorative standard strat with ash body and 54 special design pickups? or is it a vintage 60th anniversary?
After x number of years, this pedal became way too noisy. I upgraded my power supply to a Trutone CS6 and all the pedal noises went away, except for the BIYANG OD-8 which remained way too noisy for use. Stay away from this.
I ordered one of these from amazon and it arrived with a broken switch and it's buzzy, at least the switch is broken in the ON position, so that's something I guess.. The amount of buzz I get from this pedal with a humbucker equipped Ibanez is unacceptable but could be due to the faulty switch I assume. Waited 17 days to get a broken pedal, well done Biyang
I think it was precisely that, broken in shipping.. told the distributor about it, he sent me out a new pedal and an extra switch.. the new one had no noise issues at all, I'm very happy with it now.
i tried this pedal because of your demo years ago and fell in love with it! Still going strong in my board. All my "boutique snob" friends could not believe the tones that are coming out of this super affordable thing. Looking forward to the shootout! Thanks Shane!
When Shane demos a pedal, the price tag goes up. Everything you touch sounds amazing man! Big fan from Brazil! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the tip on this Shane. This pedal is awesome! It sounds as good as any of my boutique hand builds and my FD2. Amazing pedal for the cash!

Lovely pedal and some great playing, that groove near the end was slick:)
Such great playing mate

Gotta get one of these! I just bought the Biyang tremolo (which is fantastic)!
Tasty tone dude.
thanks Shane... bought this pedal instead of a klon clone. your demos are very helpful. thanks for your endless library of pedal samples.

These are great OD pedals. You ought to try the burr brown opa 2134 chip in it. It makes it even better. A little more open and dynamic feeling.
Does that come with the pedal?
Sounds fantastic just ordered one thank you very much!!!
Hi shine, amazing video. But biyang od8 or biyang od10?
Thanks for the great demos. Do you know how this pedal compares to the similar cheaper Biyang Blues Tonefancier? I run a ukulele group in St Kilda in Melbourne, I've tried a lot of these cheaper pedals to find ones that work with nylon strings and piezo pickups. An ideas? Cheers
you want an acoustic sound pedal
Was thinking about getting the BL8 Blues OD. But liking the variety of sounds with th OD8 X Drive. Aaaarrgh.
the riff at 5:55 is ... i mean ... woah.
Killer playing. Are you between the neck and middle!?
have you compared this one to the Mad Driver?
Great review from a fellow lefty 🤟🏼
I've got the Metal End and I loved it!!
Where this pedal come from?
Do you know?
Thanks!!!!
biyang is chinese
I have a BELL End! ;oP
Nice pedal. I wish the Junky Drive was more available.
Great sounding pedal. Unfortunately mine startet some strange behavior yesterday: the led lit up although the switch was off when I turned up the volume knob a little. wrong 9v adaptor you want negitive polarity low volts not 500
They even send you a couple extra chips with it!
What about the OD-7?
3 weeks later, I have the OD-8 X Drive, $57 on eBay. It sounds amazing.
All my favorite overdrives are cheapies. Heck, the most expensive ones I use are stock-standard RAT2 and a Soul Food. But the Biyang and a Caline Pure Sky are what I am using now, for my workhorse OD tones.
I dig it. It's so hard to pick a good drive. Some things sound perfect solo and mushy with the band. Awesome review-
Beautiful playing!
Just wondering, will this pedal work for an amp booster? (kinda like how tubescreamer works infront of an amp)
That is one shiny pedal!
Hi Shane, is the first guitar you use a 60th anniversary commemorative standard strat with ash body and 54 special design pickups? or is it a vintage 60th anniversary?
Hi Mustafa, it's actually a 50th Anniversary guitar, the oldest one I have in my collection from 2004 I think. :)
intheblues those pickups sounds amazing with Biyang I loved the combination ;)
Is it identical to the Biyang Mad Driver?
Rico Sadao let me know if you found out
Pretty cheap too on Amazon. Sounds pretty smooth
What's the difference between this and the od10 mad driver?
How about some rhytmic parts for a change?
Just wondering if you could do Pink Floyd with this pedal
This or the caline orange burst ?
What brand is ur 335?
It's a Japanese made Tokai ES-335 (145L) - One of the best guitar makers in the World in my opinion. :)
After x number of years, this pedal became way too noisy. I upgraded my power supply to a Trutone CS6 and all the pedal noises went away, except for the BIYANG OD-8 which remained way too noisy for use. Stay away from this.
will this give me a acdc tone
Which one do you think it's better? X-Drive OD8 or Joyo Vintage Overdrive? :)
X-Drive hands down. :-)
How does this compare to the Boss OD-3? I love the OD-3, I just want something with a little more drive.
Less drive
Hi shane,
You said the xdrive is one of the best overdrive pedal you’ve ever used, can we have your top ten overdrive pedals ?
Thanks
I ordered one of these from amazon and it arrived with a broken switch and it's buzzy, at least the switch is broken in the ON position, so that's something I guess.. The amount of buzz I get from this pedal with a humbucker equipped Ibanez is unacceptable but could be due to the faulty switch I assume. Waited 17 days to get a broken pedal, well done Biyang
Most likely broke during shipping, as biyangs are made by a single family, so they're pretty much boutique.
I think it was precisely that, broken in shipping.. told the distributor about it, he sent me out a new pedal and an extra switch.. the new one had no noise issues at all, I'm very happy with it now.
Medicated1 Great company!
how would this sound in front of a dirty jcm900?
dirty
Adds a bit of a bell tone. Nice eh? Dang!
I bet it would be even tastier with a p-90 equipped axe.
It really does
I was expecting something "spooky"...
Sounds gorgeous - and at that price its a bargain
which of the 3 chips do you use in the x-drive
I have one of these and it sounds fabulous for the £40 it cost.
its the same as a tc spark but half the price
Ibanez who?
You can hear what the OD-7 does to my Marshall DSL 20 Hr-ruclips.net/video/FTNLqClynPI/видео.html
Its BI-YANG not BA-YANG ... good video btw
I have no clean tone, I’m a filthy bastard
