A metal detector is an instrument that detects the presence of metal nearby. This time I will show you how to make a very sensitive but simple to build "Inductoion Balance" type of metal detector made with the help of Arduino microcontroller and several other components. The construction is really simple thanks to the microcontroller, but also the module for weak signal amplification with LM358 IC which can be ordered for less than fifty cents. However for those who can not obtain this module, I also presented a schematic diagram in which the amplification is done with two standard NPN transistors, with the sensitivity of the device being the same as in the previous case.
And now a few words about the coils. They consist of 60 turns of 0,4mm^2 (32 s.w.g.) enamelled copper wire coiled in a circle with a diameter of 15 cm.
As you can see in the video, this detector can detect a small coin at a distance of 20 cm or more, a hard disk drive at a distance of 40 cm, and a large metal object at a distance of more than 80 cm in the air.
The ability to locate objects buried in the soil are, of course, dependent on soil conditions. Dry sand being the most favourable, and clay is the worst medium.

Good job making the metal detector. Now, to design a really good metal detector (for gold and silver), you need to design into the electronics a way to "discriminate" and ignore iron signals. If you can make a circuit that ignores iron, then you will have a really good metal detector!!
in theory that shouldn't be too hard since iron would lower the frequency while other metals would increase it.
Would you know how to add the discrimination circuit to Marko Pavleski's circuit? It would a really import addition. Possibly, then, I could make a really good metal detector! Especially, your impute would be most useful to many, many of us who dabble in valuable electronic projects
Hi Mirko, many thanks for sharing! Nice to see the complete realization and tests of the little project. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks
@@MirkoPavleskiMK @Mirko Pavleski can you give as the coil induction value (millihenry or microhenry ) because i use other coil wire diameters ...pleas
Muy interesante como todos tus proyectos, muchas gracias!
wow...great video
Thanks
Very interesting brother Micro. Can you explain how the arduino script works. In another video, thanks a lot.
i have 22 awg wire and 30 awg wire , which of the two should I use and what changes should I make?
@Mirko Pavleski can you give as the coil induction value (millihenry or microhenry ) because i use other coil wire diameters ...pleas
Hello, how can I add metals to the project that can discriminate according to their frequency values? (For example; the frequency value of gold is 5.30 kHz)
Hello Po, why my work is only it's coil is detected and not a metal, what is wrong with my work. Please answer my question because i need to finish this as soon as possible
Very good project, as always,
Where is the Arduino script?

Hi Mirko, i am following you since 3 years. Thank you very much for your good project. İ made thiis project exatly. But unfortunately i am troubling to adjust sensitivtym it is just workin for few cm. İ just changed the signal amplifier value. Do you know what is the resistance of signal amplifier ?
Did you solve the problem ?
@@saRah-to1kv no unfortunately. Probably problem in my coil.
Hi, I have the same problem. I put everything together as it was shown in the diagram and installed the code but fine tunning is almost impossible. I couldnt go more than 2 cm away from the coil. If someone can tell me what is wrong it will be a great help.
1. I am using a clone arduino uno.
2. everything else is as metioned in the video and schematics.

hi, good job. what are the capacitor values connected to the coil? the capacitor in the figure cannot be faund. please help me.🙏🙏🙏

Have any of you prototyped this project? Also, do you think it is possible to use a 45cm diameter coil?
How to add discrimination ferrous and no ferrous?
Cool and interesting / useful
Hello dear.
Which plastic sheet was used to make the machine
Awesome job. Looks great. If you added more than 60 turns to the coil, would it go deeper? If you enhanced some of the electronics, will it go deeper? Thanks for posting..
Unfortunately no, this is the maximum performance for this metal detector
Good job

I like it
hi, do the capacitors (1uf) have to be that big? and is it 0.35mm or 0.4mm or 0.5mm for the coil. Have you had a chance to try it on sea sand? thank u :)
You can use any wire from 0.35 to 0,6 mm
Sir, the trimpot is not in the circuit diagram, but you added it, where should I add it?
The trim is placed in place of a 220R resistor that goes to the gate of the IRF730
