  • Well, today was a mess but I got it done!!
Cats, lighting, microphones, errors, and exhaustion...I did it all today!
Day 1 of The Spider Stitch Blanket Crochet Along
    4-Medium weight yarn
    I / 5.5 mm hook
    Chain 151 + 2
Row 1: Single crochet in (the second chain or third chain from the hook-depends on how you count your chains) (just crochet into chain number 151), and in each chain across. 151 single crochets. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2: Single crochet in the first stitch, skip a stitch, work a spider stitch in the next stitch, skip next stitch, REPEAT, single crochet in the last stitch of the row. (74 spider stitches) Chain 2 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 for the rest of the blanket.
Here's the link for my earlier video, it shows the spider stitch better:

I applaud your determination to stick to the project. I admit that I gave up on the spider stitch after a few tries. I find it annoying to do. I even tried a larger hook size so I could see the spaces better but it didn’t look as nice. Your blankets are beautiful.

This was fun to watch. I do the same thing, I’ve been trying to do this stitch in a 10 inch square and have ripped it out 4 times so far, I start out with 10 inches and by the time I get to the middle I’m at 11 or so, I’ve dropped down 2 hook sizes so far and I think I’ve found it. I saw your finished blanket and it was amazing, that’s why I’m watching your series.

Hi, I learned to crochet chains using my fingers, watching my grandma, when I was 5. That was 60 years ago. Please don’t beat yourself up over this mistake! I know you want it to be perfect for everybody watching, but we all make mistakes no matter how long we’ve been doing it. You ask what social media we are on? I’m on Facebook and Twitter a little, also Rumble but I don’t think that would work for communicating with each other that well. Anyway just found you today, I enjoy your channel, you are a very good teacher!

  • @craftymath-chick

Hello Bandit, thank you for helping Jennie with the CAL! I use stitch markers every 10 stitches to help me keep track of starting chains too. My mind wanders too much (wonder if I have ADD or ADHD, because I should not have difficulty losing track with simple counting so often). I enjoyed seeing how you hold your tension - probably a weird thing for me to say, but I struggled with how to hold my yarn with good tension when first learning so now it fascinates me how many different ways folks hold their working yarns. I think it is important to 'celebrate the little twins' with TA DA!s - so don't be afraid to give yourself a little 'TA DA!' when your chain count is correct. 😉 So, PLEASE don't beat yourself up, I find starting blankets are the trickiest part. If you chain 2 at the end of each row for the next row - aren't you supposed to put the FIRST sc in the FIRST row in the THIRD stitch from the hook? Is that right? I mean, if your count is right, and you didn't miss any stitches in row 2? I WAS going to make mine in candy corn colors but since I have to begin late and wait until my hands heal I am probably switching mine up (told you I was indecisive, right? 😉) I like patterns that don't have any dc stitches in them - for some reason, dc stitches tend to make my hands hurt faster than other stitches (and I was doing a project that was primarily dc stitches before I hurt my hands). Dystopias are my favorite kind of read, followed by scifi. Right now I started A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, but it has been so long I probably have to start over. I don't enjoy reading as much since I needed readers (though they don't interfere with my love of crochet... 😉). I want to be better soon so I am crochet along with you guys... ☹ I only am Facebook (not Instagram or Twitter or TikTok, FB is enough of a time s-ck away from crocheting as it is 😉) Glad you are taking breaks and stretching and resting - you don't wanna end up like me! ❤ Meredith

Stitch markers are very handy!! No, not weird...I find it fascinating how other people hold their hooks and yarn. We are all so different! I'm still loving the idea of candy corn colors! Just rest and heal, we will still be here crocheting when you're ready!!

I just found your channel today and I think your videos would be absolutely perfect for a left hand person but I'm used to people having their camera behind them and just showing the stitching up close.so I'm having a hard time seeing the stitch. I love your blanket and stitch and I love peace and quiet.I'm only on Facebook. You seem like a very nice person too and I'm happy that you have closed captioning because I have very limited hearing. Never beat yourself up for mistakes. Those who seem like they never make a mistake are only hiding that fact.We are all human and the only person that was ever perfect was Jesus. Just a half hour ago I had to rip out 6 rows of a very wide blanket because of a mistake that I couldn't hide in any was. :It's frustrating for sure

I love how all your blankets look !!! If there were any missing stitches, you really can't notice it. I did the chain of 153, but put the first spider stitch in the very first stitch (being that the ch 2 does not count as a stitch)however I came up with 76 spider stitches???????? If I'm wrong please let me know. Keep up the awesome work!!!!!!! Looking forward to your next project.

Hello people! I'm super new to crochet. Ive attempted to learn several times earlier in life but it just seemed like a foreign language!! But, RUclips helped so much seeing from a birds eye view and slowly taking one baby step at a time. Here's my issue.... And i know practice is what's going to ultimately help, but my chaining... Getting it not too loose but not so tight that i can't get him through it??? It's it better to use thicker yarn or thinner for beginners? Should i use a hook size bigger than recommended?? I just need some pointers... And all my colors i pick are on the dark side, would a lighter color be easier for me to get correct placement?? Because i tend to do extra stitches or skip at times cuz it's hard to see?!

    • @jennie-grannysquarepeg
      @jennie-grannysquarepeg  Год назад

Lighter color yarn for sure, like white, yellow, pink, it'll be much easier to see the stitches. Also, lighting. Keep a lamp close to where you're sitting, have it positioned so you can see your hands. For me good lighting/lamps have been the ultimate tool to help with crocheting. Don't forget about your tension, the way you hold the hook, to the way you hold the yarn, they also contribute to tightness or looseness with the stitches. Hope this helps!! I will be doing tutorial videos as soon as I'm done with my project pile. This is a good idea for a video.
